LouieB
All of those classic gospel groups sure could kick ass. They knew how to rock (and swing) better than any of your average indie rockers that is for sure. The Proper Box set has serveral of these groups on it. Check it out.LouieB

jcroach
Great thread. I'll second some of the suggestions for 16 Horsepower, Seven Swans by Sufjan Stevens, King's X, Patty Griffin and Bruce Cockburn. I spent most of high school entrenched in "christian rock" then tried to forget about it for a decade. Some of the other names mentioned were staples for me; Stryper, Rich Mullens, 77s, Daniel Amos, Phil Keaggy. Haven't listened to any of them in a long time. Now I'm rediscovering some good bands. I love that Danial Lanois song mention, The Maker. Here's another great one he did with Bono and U2 (Also still my favorite christian rock band.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO2LvYr1XC0
