kidsmoke
And I lurve you guys like you can't imagine!!! What a week this has been...my dad collapsed a week ago, and in that time has basically died 4 different times and been revived...now he's out of the ICU and doing better, and has a new, better pacemaker. Driving up to see him yesterday, my son Brennan and I came upon a horrible freeway accident that had just happened seconds before, and stopped to help. There were small children and Brennan helped get them safely out of harm's way, and gave the woman driver his cell phone to call her husband (911 had been called by another driver who stopped). Unfortunately the woman's brother had been thrown from the car and was beneath the vehicle, already dead. There was nothing to do for him but say a prayer. We waited until the emergency vehicles arrived and then got out of their way. So heartbreaking, but at least the 4 small children were unharmed. I can't get the images out of my head but I think the brother died very, very quickly. A nurse who also stopped said his neck had been broken. It had to be quick. And in the midst of all this, my birthday, which I hardly had time for. But my oldest son Tom insisted on taking me out to a local Indian gaming casino (Pechanga), because I'd never been. We played mostly penny slots so we'd lose our money slower and at one point I lined up 5 7's in a row!!! Pretty cool, I think that netted me all of about $2.50. I also accidentally won $12.63 when I apparently brushed the "Maximum bid" button on my way to push the daub button. Clearly, I am a skilled gambler. We had such fun! But wow, am I ever sleep-deprived and tired of the emotional roller-coaster this week has been. Dad is steadily improving, and that's all I want. That, and good friends like all of you. Oh, and we discovered an original section of "The Mother Road", Route 66, on the way up to Dad's hospital. This short stretch up in the Cajon Pass is no longer used and is slowly returning to nature, but it is marked with the cool Rt. 66 emblem. I'll post a photo or two when life calms down again. We gathered a few chunks of asphalt crumbling off the edges of this abandoned roadway, we couldn't resist. It's Route 66!!! I'll have to find a nice flowerpot or something to tuck them into. About 56 years ago, my mom & dad drove Rt. 66 from Minnesota to California with my 4 older siblings, and I was born a year later, their first California baby. I can tell I'm still running on pure adrenaline, can you? Haha. G'night.

Folks, I know that you all know this already but Donna is a really kind person. When my 1st babies where born 7 and 1/2 years ago, Donna sent my twins some bibs and assorted baby goodies. That was really nice and I'll never forget that. I hope you have a great birthday Donna! -- Jeremy
