ih8music
Cool. I don't watch that show as much as I used to, but it's still fun to catch on occasion. Good luck to your friend (although it was probably taped months ago so too late for that). So, I've always wondered... do the challengers really get to pick who they compete against, or are the matchups decided by Food Network/Iron Chef producers? Given how tight FN runs that ship, I have a hard time believing that they leave it entirely up to the challengers.

I have to watch just like everybody else. And, I can ask Todd whether or not he was able to choose.

But it seems like everybody takes on Bobby Flay. Mike Symon needs to be on more.
PopTodd
Chef Symon is busy opening new restaraunts in Cleveland. I'm still bummed that he closed Bar Symon - 10 min drive from my house. AND the only place that had Hennepin Farmhouse Ale on draft. You're in Cleveland?Todd was also the chef that opened Piccolo Mondo, Sans Souci, and Vivo before he came back home about 5 years ago. bobfrombob
What I wanna know is how far in advance they know what the "secret ingredient" is. The way it's edited makes it seem like they find out that they have to cook with cheese or lobster or whatever and 20 seconds later, with no communication with their team, they're doing 5 courses. bleedorange
Mike Symon needs to be on more. They can't have the challenger lose every single time. Therefore, Michael Symon doesn't get on as often as he should. What I wanna know is how far in advance they know what the "secret ingredient" is. I remember reading a while back about the amount of lead time they get finding out the secret ingredient. I don't remember how much time it actually was, though. theashtraysays
yeah, I watched it too. He looked pretty calm, cool, & collected though. It's gotta be tough to come up with something creative and fabulous 5 times with the same thing. Personally, I think it was the grits that got him in the end... Wikipedia says they're given 3-5 possible secret ingredients 45 minutes in advance.
