Albert Tatlock
"Jeff Tweedy y sus cohortes" - nice. That guitar looks snappy! Woof! In the words of Vince Noir, it's impossible to be unhappy in a poncho.
i'm only sleeping
I'll be seeing (hearing!) the boys in Madrid's Circo Price in about 2 hours!
i'm only sleeping
'superlative' is the most common adjective in the Spanish newspapers for the yesterday show in Madrid http://www.elpais.com/articulo/cultura/hechizo/superlativo/elpepucul/20111102elpepucul_1/Tes http://www.elmundo.es/elmundo/2011/11/02/cultura/1320199565.html

50footqueenie
I love this literal translation courtesy of google translator - 'the huge Glenn Kotche' - from El Pais: "Dress me slowly that I have haste, seemed to think Jeff Tweedy when he began to whisper the first few bars of "One Sunday Morning ', a slow-song acoustic tone river, ten minutes long, which served as a preamble for a night of intimate high voltage . Wilco on Tuesday began its Spanish tour with a memorable concert in Madrid that satisfies the high expectations raised by the U.S. group (the nearly 2,000 entries from the Teatro Circo Price had been exhausted for months). All facets that have made the Chicago sextet in respect of current rock were reflected in his incandescent performance, sometimes with two keyboard players (piano sounded much), an acoustic guitar and one electric, and other electrical fiándolo mainly to three different tone though rarely complementary: Tweedy representing tradition, Nels Cline and Pat Sansone's leading power-pop. Country-rock, pop youthful, rock & roll to old-fashioned confessional folk, the American rock, experimental and noise alternated and even complementary. Wilco showed a complete mastery of the intensity, but without becoming tame, leaving room for them to be constantly jumping sparks of spontaneity . During the first forty minutes of the performance, the band members did not say a peep. Serious, not looking at each other, an industry group appeared dressed as cowboys in town. Serious and grave six men playing with rigorous perfection bestial force. The songs followed one another in all directions: 'Poor Places', 'Art of Almost', 'I Might', 'At Least That's What You Said', 'Bull Black Nova' ... Two issues of a decade ago, "Via Chicago" and "Jesus, Etc.", were the bridge to the melting of the group, which finally appeared relaxed, smiling Tweedy more and finally delivered talking to the public. In the repertory dominated his recent new album, the justly celebrated 'The Whole Love', from which eight of his twelve interpreted varied songs. Similarly, recovered nine pieces of its two discs international recognition , "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" (2002) and 'A Ghost Is Born' (2004), which could be considered as a step backward from his last two albums, one maturity disappointing off, and sounded only three of the 24 songs from the show. In a group with six outstanding musicians with a battery (the huge Glenn Kotche) that can play rock music like jazz or folk of Appalachia, heavily underlined, once again, the tall, lean contest Nels Cline, a guitarist too imaginative and with a repertoire of resources simply overwhelming . It's him, dizzying and daring at all times, Wilco who pushes beyond the great popular music to experimentation epidermal jaw dropped. And you might as well sit for a moment with a pedal steel on his knees, sounds stale as the best. To understand, if you play with five Nels Cline teletubbies would have to go to him anyway. The second hour of the concert was a breeze. "Born Alone," "War On War ',' Hummingbird ',' Whole Love ',' Impossible Germany ',' Red Rising Lung ',' Standing O ',' Handshake Drugs ',' Dawn On Me ',' A shot in the arm ',' I Am Trying to Break Your Heart 'and' One Wing ' Wilco throwing his best version of each of its facets, giving all the excitement these intricate compositions while fully seated in the roots American folklore. At times he seemed more adventurous than Radiohead, others as legendary as Bob Dylan & The Band; so fast and powerful as the E Street Band, and even emerged victorious in the difficult art of looking face to face Neil Young distortion reared. In the encore rang four songs, 'Heavy Metal Drummer', 'The Late Greats', 'I'm The Man Who Loves You' and 'Misunderstood', the culmination of a night that had started slowly, but is packed up a win of those who make a hobby". "rigorous perfection bestial force" - oh yes that's why we love Wilco...
i'm only sleeping
The crowd in Madrid was amazing. They had so much energy. So much fun.Yes, way too energy to my taste...Too much clapping in the middle of songs they thought ended (Art of Almost, OSM; obviously, many still don't know the songs from TWL). In fact, Jeff had to tell the crowd to stop their ovations for a while: "you'll have plenty of time for this later.." Not sure, but maybe their planned setlist was changed according to the crowd mood

malayka
Interesting read - I flew over from England to catch this show, and it was fantastic. It would have been even better had they actually played I am trying to break your heart and one wing! With regards to the clapping - from where I was stood, I felt it was more appreciation of certain parts of the song rather than the crowd not knowing the newer material, but I could be wrong - in fact of the numerous times I have seen Wilco across the UK, I dont think I have ever seen a crowd so into the show. The ovation was for Nels following Impossible Germany, and I thought it was sweet how the fans showed their appreciation. Now, what chance the Chicago shows get filmed for a dvd release? I certainly hope so as there can never be enough footage of these guys, and I feel it was such a shame the 5 night run where they played all the songs didnt get captured for posterity
