pathfire
It's Rhett Miller live at Largo doing all covers. Looks pretty cool, and a great song selection. http://www.amazon.com/The-Interpreter-Live-At-Largo/dp/B0063TB6W8/ref=tmm_msc_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1320787411&sr=1-1 Lots of guest spots by Jon Brion as well, along with Joey Santiago from the Pixies. howdjadoo
Can never be better than the originals(however?) Ranking this aforehand as one of my favs this year
hwllo
Just comparing the two, it's pretty similar to Tweedy solo show versions with the piano. Guitar playing is much more basic than Tweedy'sTempo is sped upVoice is a little whinier Other than that basically the same thing and not much if anything added to it. It's not bad, but it's not really anything, it just kind of is. pretty cool he covered it, but there really wasn't much there to put his own spin on it
SarahC
I love his cover of "CA Stars". I feel like he made it his. The addition of Jon Brion only makes it cooler.Very excited for the covers record. Even more excited that he's started his own record label.

Too fast, weird phrasing, not much to add. I hope the rest of the album is better.
choo-choo-charlie
I did not care for this version.
LouieB
I saw him sing this once. Sounded pretty good in person. LouieB

I hope the rest of the album is better. Isn't the purpose of a cover to change around the phrasing and stuff? I mean, if the person covering the song sang the song exactly like the original singer wouldn't it be a copy instead of a cover?
uncool2pillow
I don't mind different. I will listen to Devo singing Satisfaction 1,000,000 times, or Bad Plus with Wendy Lewis singing Comfortably Numb or Radio Cure. Very unique takes. There's not much character to this cover. Rhett sings to just be off on this one. Off the beat a bit, and to no positive effect to my ears.
