Oil Can Boyd
There was a nice article in this week's Boston Phoenix about Columbia House records. In the early days of CDs I certainly built up my library through both Columbia House and BMG. http://thephoenix.com/Boston/music/129722-rise-and-fall-of-the-columbia-house-record-clu/
Analogman
And before that, records and tapes. I still have several from back in the day (1970s).
Vacant Horizon
i always hated the cheap white Columbia House disclaimer on the back of the CDs. those clubs were like the precursor of mp3s for me. i always ended up with a shit load of stuff i would never listen to. uncool2pillow
I built much of my CD collection through Columbia House. Esp. when I started exploring jazz in the late 1990s early 2000s. Appreciative that it was available, but it's time has come and gone.

Sir Stewart
The little stamps of the album covers were the only thing I ever got out of Columbia House.
dagwave
in the late 70's as a paperboy, i once happened upon a Columbia House package/ starter set sitting on a doorstep. I stuffed it in my paperbag, finished deliveries and got my ass home. In my room, I recall ripping it open, only to find a really bad selection of music. the only artist/ record i remember is that bob welch record, french kiss. i felt way bad, Catholic Guilt and all. soooooo: staute of limitations, anyone?that day, a paperboy saved someones life?music piracy history lesson..... Analogman
I know some dudes who use to go around looking for such things when it became BMG/cds. They would take the cds and then sell them to the local record store.
