remphish1
Used to go to Shea Stadium a ton in the mid 80's...Gary was a great guy. My brother wrote to every Met's player that year and Gary was the only one who replied and he sent back autographed cards and a letter. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-obit-garycarter
Sparky speaks
My best memory of Carter happened to be one of my most depressing baseball moments. I was seated to the left behind home plate where the screen comes down in the first row for the 7th game of the 86 World Series and being a Red Sox fan I figured it was my destiny to be there when they won their first World Series championship in some 68 years. (My brother in-law worked for Sikorsky's at the time and got me tickets throughout that year for Mets games from a vendor) I should have known better of course. I was even slightly happy that they had blown the 6th game so I could attend the 7th. I brought my camera to the game and took some great shots of BP and all the celebrities that were milling around the field and sitting in the section between the screen and the Red Sox dugout. Joe Sambito came up into the stands to see his parents who were sitting a couple of rows away from us. We told him we were Sox fans and he talked and posed for some pictures. We yelled at Red Sox back up catcher Marc Sullivan to throw us one of the balls they used for pre-game infield practice which he did. We ended up giving it to some kid. We talked to Bob Costas for a few seconds and waved to Bill Murray and Amhad Rashad. The karma was good. But we all know what happened. When Marty Barrett struck out to end the game I had my camera ready to take pictures of the celebration. I got Carter jumping into Jesse Orosco's arms just as it happened and clicked off a few more shots of the massive pile of Mets in the middle of the infield. Of course I was heartbroken again but it was pretty cool non the less. I still have the photos but as you all know they are not digital so I can't post any. Every once in awhile I take them out and look at them. The Carter photo is my favorite...

Makes me like Gary Carter a little bit more.
