choo-choo-charlie
Also referenced in this thread. I wonder how many takes it took Tweedy to nail the vocal.
i'm only sleeping
It.s really malo malísimo, sorry Jeff. You should have looked for the advice of a very good rock lyrics translator, there is one very good one (Alberto Manzano) who made a good job with Dylan and Cohen
choo-choo-charlie
I'm sure they consulted a translator. Translated lyrics often end up sounding strange because the cadence, rhythm, rhyming, etc., doesn't work.
ih8music
Right, but that's kind of the point. You can have a perfectly fine literal translation of the text that sounds bad (like IMO this is), or an interpreted translation by a Spanish-speaking songwriter/poet that works better. And the fact that Tweedy's obviously not comfortable with the language doesn't help.
Lotti
This is excellent piece of learning from way of the Abba! Many times they make the special disc in different tongue to exploit pop market full potential. And friends, even your English is the different tongue for us Swedes! Ha ha! It has certain style of the sexy to our ears, but there is no comparable to the sexy of the Spanish tongue! Mis pezones están explotando de placer! Mi perro está casi muerto. I have a knee weakening and the moist at these words for sure. Here is remind of the Abba in this mode:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7O5GVbYuMM Welfare!
smells like flowers
I have a knee weakening and the moist at these words for sure. The spanish words in the song really don't have the right flow as far as strictly how it sounds, but it was very nice of Jeff to make this attempt. More proof of the two-way love fest between Wilco and the Spaniards. How bout those "voces en mi cabeza" ??!!
Robby
Well, this is better than when the Beatles did She Loves You (Sie Liebt Dich) or I Want To Hold Your Hand (Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand) in German. Those versions were always good for a chuckle or two.Same thing when David Bowie sang Heroes (Helden) in German. Col. Hapablap
And then, there's also Johnny Cash doing "Ring Of Fire" in spanish! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCzgWK8eK8M
CrisBcn
Oooh, my God!!!!!! I've just listened to it... First I thought it was a video with the translated subtitles written on but no, it's Jeff doing a great effort at singing in Spanish!!!! Ok, "Dawned on Me" is one of my favourite songs on the last record and his singing is great but the words, even being the right translated Spanish words, don't make it easy to listen to, and neither to sing for him... But I really appreciate the try and maybe he can go on improving this version in the future! ;o)
blackmoon
As I already said, I appreciate the gesture but have a long-time aversion to spanish versions of non-spanish songs. They´re all terrible and this is no exception. Anyway, I will request the song in spanish for the next concert, just for fun
blackmoon
hahaha I´m imagining Jeff recording this and can´t stop laughing it´s actually quite funny

jcroach
So, is this going to be a commercially available single? Never mind. Found it! http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/me-avive-single/id531819401
nalafej
I wonder if they played this version on the South American tour? I suspect not.
