bjorn_skurj
Mr. Heartbreak, I agree with you 100 percent but I do not see how in the framework of how we do things in this country that a multibillion-dollar industry is going to be legislated out of existence. Hixter
a multibillion-dollar industryIt's actually $3 trillion.
bjorn_skurj
That'll be even harder!
lamradio
But again you make it sound like the only place to get insurance is through your employer. Which is not true. ACA has set up health insurance exchanges for you to buy private health insurance. https://www.healthcare.gov/what-is-the-health-insurance-marketplace/. Ok, I was under the impression (again misinformed) that the 1% of income or $95 fee would be charged even before the ACA options were available. It appears that they will be available starting in October.

Guest Jules
There was actually some talk in our office about them actually NOT offering us insurance if it turns out we could get it cheaper as free agents on an exchange. Many unknowns. This calculation will be part of the decision for every business.
Mr. Heartbreak
This is really sad.I remember when I was a kid and had a major accident. Missed 14 days of school. My parents' insurance plan covered all expenses. My dad's employer provided the plan. It was called an indemnity plan: all but obsolete in the age of the HMO. Companies, especially insurance corporations, have become far too greedy. No wonder there is no loyalty anymore.

IRememberDBoon
I was a proud member of The Young Republicans freshman year. Then I started reading and learning stuff. Maybe it was Zinns A Peoples History of The United States or Maybe it was Be Here Now of The Whole Earth Catalog.Again you guys can stick with Limbaugh, Beck, Palin, Bush, Reagan, McConnell et alia..........I support the Clintons, Obamas, Carter, Pelosi and the rest. To me its pretty simple and cut and dry. I figured it out around 19.PS Having lived in DC most of the last 20 years Im great friends with many many Republicans and we have a blast raising hell with each other. I guess it doesn't come across so good on the interweb

KevinG
As we discuss the pros/cons and the nature of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), there is an interesting political fight happening, namely the GOP's fervent opposition to ACA. They have voted to repeal the law some 40 off times and now many in the GOP are threatening a government shutdown if ACA is not defunded. So for those of you who don't like ACA, do think it is wise to shut down the US government over the fight on ACA? Would it be political suicide if they did?
LouieB
Rand Paul came across as a rational, intelligent guy on Daily Show the other night. I have no doubt that he is intelligent. But if there is something that can replace ACA that will actually be better, let's have at it. The only thing happening right now is voting out the ACA with nothing to replace it. That's stupid. Since I am personally for single payer, etc. I am pretty sure that isn't what is even being proposed by the GOP, but since they haven't put any plan out there, it seems reasonable to think they don't actually have any plan, nor are they willing to compromise (since they didn't three or four years ago.) bjorn_skurj
It's one that the Republicans and the health-insurance industry could live with, sure, even as they both howl like stuck pig-dogs about how socialist and wicked it is.
LouieB
It is my contention that ACA is a GOP plan. Actually if you change is to was you are correct. It just isn't anymore. Who knows what their "plan" is since they don't seem to have one. And it certainly is the one the health insurance industry can live with. LouieB
bjorn_skurj
Their plan is to continue the status quo, which hasn't been that bad at all for insurance companies and for-profit hospitals.
Hixter
Three teenage boys kill man for the fun of it. How long before Al Sharpton demands justice and President Obama likens the victim to his son? Oh wait ... Add in the fact that a former deputy prime minister of Australia has called for a boycott of the United States by Australian tourists, and that he blames the NRA for the murder, and you have quite a confluence of bull crap. As if the punk kids were future NRA members who would be deterred by laws and regulations ...

JUDE
I don’t want to rehash the whole Travon Martin thing, but can someone explain to me why he (Martin) is being equated to Dr. Martin Luther King and his importance to the civil rights movement?
Mr. Heartbreak
Probably because the only crime he was guilty of, up until he allegedly assaulted Zimmerman, was Walking while Black.
