Mr. Heartbreak
Damn. All the Zappa fans on here will know how I feel about this.http://www.bet.com/news/music/2013/08/06/jazz-legend-george-duke-dies-at-67.html
Tweedling
Shit. What a talent and so fun to watch. A million dollar smile.RIP
Mr. Heartbreak
Apparently, his wife died about a year ago, so that may have been a factor. He was only 67. Just reminds me how fortunate we are to still have people like Dylan, Paul McCartney, etc., out there performing after all these years.
Winston Legthigh
Sad, was just listening to the Grand Wazoo last weekend. His opening to Eat That Question is my favorite George Duke moment. Definitely my favorite period of Zappa's - with Duke, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ruth, Chester's Gorilla... (she go Hratche-plche)
Mr. Heartbreak
... Chester's Gorilla... (she go Hratche-plche) Thanks for putting a smile on my face with the sound effect, on what is for me a sad occasion. Duke was such an integral part of the FZ sound throughout what I consider to be his most classic period. I'll be bummed when Ponty and all those other folks go too, but Duke was among the most essential. Edit: I just looked on Wikipedia, and it's amazing how many classic FZ albums featured George: Chunga's, 200 Motels, Waka/Jawaka, Grand Wazoo, Over-Nite Sensation, Apostrophe, Roxy, OSFA, Bongo Fury...pretty much all my favorite FZ albums. I also have a ton of live shows, and Duke's improv sections at the beginning of Dupree's Paradise were always something special. Guy was great. Confirmed that he was battling leukemia:http://www.jazzwisemagazine.com/news-mainmenu-139/70-2013/12804-jazz-breaking-news-keyboard-legend-george-duke-dies-aged-
