Wilco — 5/9/15, Atlanta, GA (Central Park) [Shaky Knees Festival]

Recommended Posts

And so ends another Wilco run, this one being one of the longest uninterrupted stretches for the full band in a while (18 days). At any rate, it's the last time Wilco will play until Solid Sound and the tour ended on a strong, if entirely too brief, note at the third annual Shaky Knees Festival.

Don't have too much commentary, other than to say that the crowd was generally pretty enthusiastic even after baking under the hot sun all day. The band responded with a set that was a combination of greatest hits and a few deep cuts, as has been the case for most of the shows on this 20th anniversary tour. Jeff kept the banter to a minimum, which was understandable given the band's 75-minute time slot. (He did say toward the end of the set that "we usually play a little longer" and that they were "going to squeeze in a couple more songs. And he also said something earlier about how they had a little more time so they were "going to make the most of it.")

Some folks around me wondered why another band (Brand New) had gotten to play until 9:30 on the same stage the previous night, while Wilco had to be done by 9. I don't know how time slots are arranged at festivals, but there you go. Wilco actually played a little past 9 anyway, but I think bands are permitted to exceed their end time as long as they start their last song before that time.

Anyway, it was a set with a little something for everybody. And it was cool, personally, to hear the electric A Shot in the Arm to close after it had gotten the hootenanny treatment for a while. On to Solid Sound!

Here was the complete setlist, as played (the only change off the printed list was Dawned On Me getting cut for time):

Was a little nervous regarding the crowd - not generally the normal Wilco demographic but most around me seemed to really be getting it. Few left, and I saw more than one shaking their head in appreciation. Good times!

Oh, thanks. Were they running just one headliner stage each night?

The way it works is that there are four main stages with two stages next to each other. While one band is playing on one they're setting up on the other. Wilco was the last to play on the southern two stages and Avetts started immediately after them on the further north stages.
