remphish1
Sold to a developer for highrises! I live in NJ and I am bummed about this. Shopped at Ameoba in San Fran it was great and I order online from the every so often!
jff
It sounds like they'll be around a few more years, and then move to another location. They sold their building, but that doesn't mean they're going to close. Businesses move all the time due to rising rents or any number of other reasons. It's actually refreshing when a business can sell their building for loads of money, then move and keep it going from a position of strength.
remphish1
JFF I hope that is the case! I just hate seeing music stores close. NYC lost Other Music recently which hit me hard.
jff
I hope so, too. I've never been there, but it's been on my to-do list if I ever make it back to LA. I believe Nels used to work at this store.
TCP
I hope jff is right. I've always wanted to visit Amoeba LA, even if it's supposedly a little touristy.
calvino
The Jazz Record Mart in Chicago has closed and reopened quite a few times over the years - due to raising rents and such.
lost highway
I live in Colorado and I've probably shopped there half a dozen times. I hope they keep it alive.
