Thought I'd bump this up with "Up" opening today. Rumors are that there will be a Toy Story 3 teaser. And as usual, an animated short called "Partly Cloudy" will precede the movie.

I seem to recall an SNL skit a year or so ago where Armisen/Obama hosted a show. He was super cool and the "show" had a hip, party vibe to it. Obama DOES come across like he's super cool (arrogant?)....even has the strut when we walks. And he kinda talks in a cool way. Something along those lines could be mined. Almost like the Ladies Man skits. He HAS had his problems with/without the telemprompter. He's a FANTASTIC speaker, but I find him very calculating and dull when on one-and-one or off-the-cuff interviews. And he had a phase where he was talking almost too doom-and-gloom about our ec

Oh, stop it. You guys are killing me with laughter. See? There's not much out there yet of late night comedians actually poking fun of Obama. I don't watch Stewart that much, but the bits I've found aren't really making fun of Obama himself, but rather Biden or people around Obama. Feel free to post a link if I'm missing some. So far, this thread has produced ONE funny bit that (slightly) makes fun of Obama....that would be the Jimmy Fallon skit I posted at the start.

This isn't a thread to argue politics. It's just here for people to post good, quality jokes and comedic bits that lampoon our President.
-
Fantastic. Post links to said bits.

I thought I'd start a thread for when late night comedians actually come up something that's clever and funny that takes jabs at Barack Obama. Besides SNL, Obama has been pretty much untouchable since the election. So it was refreshing to see a bit on Jimmy Fallon that, while not mean-spirited and personal like the millions of anti-Bush and Cheney jokes that still flood the late night shows, found a way to jab President Obama, however so lightly: http://freedomeden.blogspot.com/2009/04/jimmy-fallon-obama-facial-expressions.html

I've got a disc of a show I attended on July 23rd, 2000. It was a show in Columbia, MO and was streamed on the internet I remember. Classic Jay performance. The encore was amazing. Jay would do amazing riffs of classic rock songs before or in the middle of Wilco songs. Casino Queen kicks off with a "Won't Get Fooled Again" intro. "Hot Blooded" gets a musical nod during another song. And of course, Jay was leading the way during JP's rendition of Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". Those old shows had a ton of personality. This morning I was blasting Summerteeth. I like all Wilco incarnations, b

While I didn't take the scene to mean Jay caused Jeff to puke, it came across to me like Sam Jones' intent was to make viewers feel like Jay was contributing to Jeff's un-well-being. I have no idea what it was like being around Jay, but the movie definitely gave the vibe that Jay was kind of a goof and that Jay was a little pissed that Jeff wasn't wanting the record to sound like Bennett did. I think Jeff is almost portrayed like an innocent victim. And I think mostly that's because Jeff plays to the camera better. Jay seems like someone that almost forgets the camera's on, and lets his guar

I'm STILL going with a Cleveland/LA matchup in the Finals. Orlando's 3-point shooting is insanely good. They will NOT keep up the torid pace. Orlando is gonna give it all in Game 5, and will keep it close, but Cleveland will pull it out. That will bring a Game 6 that most would say would have pressure on Cleveland. I see the opposite. Game 6 in Orlando will be HUGE pressure on Orlando, knowing they must win that game to avoid a Game 7 in Cleveland. I'm not a Kobe fan, but I like Kobe's attitude about Dahntay Jones trip and overall borderline-thuggish defense. Kobe simply said, "he's play

Great post. Though he hasn't been a part of the band for years, when I think of Wilco, I first think of Jeff and Jay. Jay gave the band a certain feel, musically and with his personality, that was just perfect when meshed with Jeff.

Big bummer. I sensed things were really bad for Jay...physically and psychologically. Hopefully it's found to be just an untimely and tragic, but otherwise natural death. I listened to the YHF demos this morning and thought of Jay during the Instrumental #1.
-
If I could, I would. It's on the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot demos. Also, Jay Bennett & Ed Burch do a very nice version on Bennett's "Palace at 4am".
-
Plus a very cool version of How To Fight Lonliness....with Stirrat, Bach and Bennett. Bennett says afterward how he thinks that version might be better than any other.

We're all entitled to our opinions. My opinion is that John Stewart, while very sharp and witty, is smug, sarcastic, and annoying as hell. I CANNOT watch the guy. O' Brien's a great late-night host because he's all about trying to be genuinely and broadly funny. He's not about pissing off people or trying to be controversial or trying to be edgy to just be cool. He's a clown....a goofball...with a very wacky, weird and glorious sense of humor.

Bits and pieces, pleasures and disappointments
jakobnicholas replied to Ghost of Electricity's topic in Just A Fan
The lyrics of Solitaire. Jeff's a great lyricist, but every so often he REALLY belts one out of the park. Hell is Chrome is probably his last song to make me feel this way. And YES, the ending of Everlasting Everything is tremendous. I wish it'd go on. -
The Jayhawks (including Louris, Olson, and related)
jakobnicholas replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've been listening to The Harmony Ridge Creek Dippers' Zola and the Tulip Tree. I forgot how great that disc is. I think I'd now put in the top 5 on the all-time best Louris/Olson/Jayhawks-related cd. It requires a liking of Victoria Williams voice, which might be a big road block for some. But the cd is very beautiful and has a pure, old-timey feel to it. Songs about some woman's garden, some guy named Cedric Harper, memories of riding the Custom Detroit Railroad and sweet but somehow non-cheesy songs of love. This cd may be Olson at his best....on songs like "Skip To My Lou" and "Into -
There's a TON of great current music. It just may be harder to find because there's so many bands jumping in the pool right now. And if you base what's current by what you hear on the radio or see on TV, then yeah, no shit it's gonna seem like music sucks. You have to get off your butt and/or do some research and seek out what might be good. Sometimes you'll try something that kinda sucks, then you might stumble across an artist that you love....music's ALWAYS been like that. The Jonas Bros. or Hannah Montana don't bother me. The pop crap aimed at tweeners has always been around. And the "

I guess I took GON's reply of "Conan having no choice" to mean he's saying Conan loves Carson so much because he works for NBC and he'll soon be the host of Carson's show. But if he meant it as Conan has no choice 'cause there's really no reason to not love Carson, then we're all on the same page. I just realized Conan has his own Tonight Show page with some awesome new videos....with Conan, Andy & Max: http://www.thetonightshowwithconanobrien.com/

From a professional standpoint, IS there many bad things to say about Carson? Carson may not have been EVERYONE's cup of tea, but he seemed like the perfect personality for hosting what the Tonight Show is...an hour-long show to entertain and make laugh the biggest and broadest audience possible.

I don't think Conan is just spouting the company line: O

Great article. I love that he loves Johnny Carson. I'm even more stoked to see the new show.

Oh, OK. Thanks for the clarification. I did not know that.
