Some of us don't work in record stores and get to preview every freakin' disc released before having to fork over cash. And some of us don't live in Chicago where, if interested, someone could probably see every musician known to mankind live at least once a year to form an opinion. I LOVE reading critic reviews....the more the better......to form an opinion if a new cd is worth my 15 bucks. Same goes for movies. If 5 or 10 respected publications give thumbs up, there's a better chance I'll check it out. And some music magazines or websites earn my respect over time and I hold more worthy.

Dude, what's your problem? Don't ya know that all shaved balls threads go into the "Tongue-Tied Lightning" forum?!

At least give the critic credit for his qualifier at the end: "Of course, that's all according to my own ears, and there are plenty of people who disagree with me..." And while I don't dis-like Bright Eyes, the critic makes one point I agree with. Sometimes Conor's voice is really grating and sounds almost like faked sincerity. (to my own ears, of course).

By Gumption, the melody in "What Light" is UNWELLLLL
jakobnicholas replied to OOO's topic in Just A Fan
"The worst" "No melody" "Waaaaay too lethargic" "going to suck" " 'What light' sounds dumb" "Corny Bob Dylan" "Jeff goes into this horrible happy feely 'we can make it better!' spiel" Dang folks, it's early. As Conan would say, "Be cool my babies." -
They were on Leno. I don't see any topics on it....I apologize if I missed it. Pirner looks good. Real energetic. Same for Murphy. The song was decent....rockin...nothing out of this world, but similar to a good, straight-forward Westerberg song. Also, the drummer was smokin' good.....a large, bald guy dressed nicely. I saw him play with Westerberg a couple years ago....a Minnesotan perhaps? And SA is touring. Looks like big-ish venues. Can they sell 4-7 thousand a show?

Some may think it boring, but I think it's very fascinating how the arts (in this case, movies) hit people differently. Sometimes there's no explaining....it just works or doesn't. For example, I think all movies with Julia Roberts in them suck (except Mystic Pizza...decent movie). And Napolean Dynamite may be the most over-rated movie EVER. And Shrek was a good animated movie, but pales to all Pixar films. Rocky 1 is brilliant. The rest blow.....except for the montage in Rocky 3 with "No Easy Way Out" playing. And while I loved the old Willy Wonka......I also really like Burton's vision of

Italy got robbed earlier in the game by an off-sides call (VERY questionable). By the way, I'm not a soccer junkie, but I think the off-sides rule is somewhat riciculous. I'm not saying games should be 9-7 or 10-5, but maybe letting the offenses have more ways of scoring could increase the excitement of the game. To me, soccer is much like hockey......there's always many shots on goal, but there seems much more luck in scoring a goal than skill. I'll see a player do an offensive move that drops my jaw, only to see the ball bounce of a cross bar or a lucky-guessing goalie's hand. Then I'

"You honestly cannot understand a single word coming out of Stallone's mouth in that trailer. it's worse than ever." I caught most everything he said. Stallone has never enunciated well at all....and that's always bugged me about the Rocky movies. But I was more impressed with the tone of Rocky Balboa. Don't ya think it looks diferrent than the crap we saw in Rocky 3-5? I'm not saying it's gonna be great like Rocky 1, but it gave me chills.

Thanks to some little ones in my family, I've been seeing some summer blockbusters (which I'm usually not a big fan of). Pirates of the Carribean 2 was very enjoyable....mostly because of Johnny Depp. Personally, I really liked the comical edge throughout. The action scenes were mostly fun and creative....and visually, it was perfect. I can't wait to see next year's 3rd film. When I first heard months ago of a Rocky 6 (to be called "Rocky Balboa"), I was TOTALLY turned off, as the last couple Rocky films were horrendous (imho). And Rocky 3, though slightly entertaining, is mostly fluf. B

I'm not a huge soccer fan, but watched much of the final yesterday. The save by Italy's goalie on a late-in-the-game France headbutt was amazing. Italy dodged many bulletes and was very fortunate to get a chance at the end. And Zidane's action was insanely stupid.....I just thought, "why?"....."for what reason?".

"Even if it's true, for the love of all things holy and good, please never describe any subsequent new songs as, 'It's kind of like Either Way'. "Either Way" is BEAUTIFUL.....it has a great, comforting, bluesy feel. I've got my fingers crossed it makes the cut for the next album. (Just had to throw that in.) Thanks all to the great, detailed show reviews in Canada!

I'm jealous. I wanna cry 'cause I can't see them any of these dates. I'm gonna go jump off a building.

I felt lucky to hear them play "Either Way" in KC about a month ago....was the first and only time I've heard it and I thought it was a stunning, beautiful tune. Jealous that you guys go to see "Red-Eyed---I Got You". How does this new lineup's version compare to the Bennett-days versions?

I'm jealous. I'd LOVE to see her live again. Look forward to reading reviews of her future shows.
