Don't know if the new Buckner is worth 15 bucks? Listen yourself: http://mergerecords.com/ -

10 albums you must hear this autumn...

Interesting list. I'll add: Richard Buckner (tomorrow) The Rapture (tomorrow) Yo La Tengo (tomorrow) My Morning Jacket (Sept 26) The Decemberists (Oct 03) -
Not a dirty play, but should have been a 15 yard penalty. In most cases, once the quarterback starts a slide, you almost cannot touch the QB without getting a penalty. Geathers WAS partially blocked into Green, but any shot to a QB's head....especially when in the act of sliding feet first....should be flagged. Geathers was clearly aiming for Green. Doesn't matter. Chiefs will work towards being a great football team, but I'm afraid they have too much work to do this year. Especially with Green hurt. Today's game reminded me of many Vermeil-coached Chiefs games....a handful of bonehead mista

I remember reading about Mike Judge's newest movie over a year ago. I don't quite understand why, but the movie studio has been pushing back the date of release for a long time. The movie studio is not hyping the movie. I don't see ads for it.....I don't even think a trailer was made. We're talking about freaking Mike Judge.... creator of Beavis and Butthead, King of the Hill and the classic movie Office Space. Apparently Judge's look into the future of America isn't so glamorous, and many big corporations are the butts of his satire. For those who don't know, Luke Wilson plays an ordinary man

The tone of this thread is that Seger sucks and his music should never be played again. I could give a crap if anyone likes him or not. I'm just saying, in my opinion, the man has some great, great songs that many have never heard....mostly because of classic rock stations deciding what's "good" Seger. If one thinks the songs played on classic rock stations are a barometer of Seger's songwriting skills, that's too bad.
-
So because some dumb-shit radio station overplays Katmandu, Old Time Rock n' Roll or Emmy Lou (all very, very crappy in my opinion), we can't like a handful of truly great songs by Seger? Ridiculous. And to think some of you find Pitchfork snobby. And I'll add about Mellencamp....yeah, Jack and Diane and R.O.C.K. in the USA don't ever need to be played again. But I'm not embarrassed to say Scarecrow has some great songs on it.
-
If you like Still the Same, you'd like the songs I mentioned above. I think I like his songs that sound sincere and real....he's got a good voice for it.
-
I don't care for most of Seger's rockers. But he's got some killer slower songs: Famous Final Scene Fire Lake Roll Me Away Till It Shines Somewhere Tonight Mainstreet.

This may sound odd, but I had a revelation when I saw the movie "Invincible" (nowhere close to Rocky 1, but a decent sports movie when not making me puke with its over-the-top dramatics). The opening credits rolled with Jim Croce's "I Got A Name". I've always LOVED that song....great tune, great lyrics. To me, the "What Light" lyrics are in a similar vein....don't need to be a rocket scientist or English Literature proffesor to figure out its meaning...but it's uplifting and makes you feel good. I don't have a problem with that.

Their newest gets an absolute big thumbs up from me. First couple listens, I liked it, but it didn't sound like anything special. But the more I listened, the more it really grabbed me as a great straight-forward rock-pop record. One of my fave releases of 2006.

I'd like: Howe Gelb - Back when the AGIB tour was gonna start, Gelb was slated to open a few Wilco dates before the shows got post-poned with Jeff's illness. Fountains of Wayne - These guys haven't toured in forever. They're finishing their next record....what better way for them to get a little hype. Split Lip Rayfield - The lead singer is fighting cancer of the esophugus....it's a very sad story.....but they just played about 7 or 8 shows. He's still able to sing and says it helps his spirits. They're from Wichita....so some of the Midwest dates would seem very do-able.
-
Maybe it WAS a bad mix. I think I liked it 'cause it sounded different than the version I've heard now 879 times listening to Neko's fabulous disc.
-
I posted before about this, but "Either Way" live in Kansas City was freakin' beautiful...musically and lyrically. Nels had the spotlight and he took big-time advantage with a sweet little guitar flourish. I'm really pumped about the new material.
-
Last night's performance was different somehow than the Leno performance. I think for the better. It seemed more understated....the drums less intrusive and more subtle. It just seemed more "musical" or something. Seeing it made me say to myself, "I must go get the new live Sadies record now!". I, too, was hoping for something different...Margaret & Pauline, Teenage Feeling, Lion's Jaws. Oh well.

If it's true that Tweedy wants to make a feel-good, soul record....he said in one concert he wants to make an album that doesn't have "arty, hoity-toity bullshit" and make a record that people can dance and sing and make out to.....then I don't think it's totally fair to criticize the new songs. I don't think Tweedy is TRYING to come up with profound, mysterious lyrics. And musically, I think the band is trying different things.....none of us know where it'll end up. At least Wilco isn't trying to make a hip-hip record (ahem....Elton John...ahem......lordy is THAT gonna suck!)
-
I'm hoping to go to this show as well. I saw that the floor is standing only. But it looks as though there's seats on the sides. I, too, would like to be enlightened about this venue.
-
I hope a new, fresh, great, fabulous version of On and On and On makes the next record, if for no other reason, than to hear all the whiny, know-it-all, Wilco advisor wannabees say, "hmmmmm.....y'know, that On and On and On song ain't too shabby." Trust the Tweedy.

Conan (in my opinion, the king of late night tv) is hosting the Emmy's Sunday. Here's an interesting interview: http://www.avclub.com/content/node/51876

I can understand how the Decemberists don't click for some people....mainly I think Meloy's voice may grate for some. But I've gotten over that hurdle, much like learning to like Michael Stipe in R.E.M.'s early days. I like the storytelling. They kind of take me away to weird and/or interesting places. At the Bus Mall is a good example.

What's the freakin' deal?! Shouldn't you leaked-cd-listeners have been reviewing this early-October release about a month ago? From a Joe-normal music dude, I must say I'm very, very, very disappointed in you all. I'm sick and tired of not getting my advanced screening of a cd until just TWO months before official release. This slacking off must stop! (I'll give my 2 cents around October 4th.)
-
For top 40 pop, I think it's very, very good. I'll take this over 95% of the other songs that show up on MTV.
-
If they end up in New York, any chance this could be the season they get on SNL? (Yeah, I don't think so either. But it's fun to think about.) I'd debating between going to Wichita or Springfield.....hmmm....decisions, decisions.
