Getting way off-topic, but Pixar's next movie, "Ratatouille" looks very entertaining. It's directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Iron Giant). And Pixar's following movie, Wall-E (2008), sounds very interesting and somewhat dark from what I've read....it's about a robot hundreds of years in the future. Directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo). Shouldn't be long before Pixar gets the Oscar again.

Thumbs up.. Very cool.

I thought Cars was GREAT. I don't understand the hatred towards it. It was more subtle and low-key than previous Pixar efforts, but was eye-popping, touching and funny. Happy Feet was so overly schmaltzy and reliant on goofy dance numbers.....if Robin Williams never did an animated character's voice again, I'd be ok with that. And the save-the-environment message was way over-the-top....ok, I get it...the world's beautiful, penguins are beautiful, be kind to nature, be kind to penguins......ugh.

Ouch. I've heard the live versions, and, though the lyrics are simpler and less abstract, I don't find them to be "not meaningful". Tomatoes, To-mah-toes.

You also said: "I mean worse is a harsh term (for Sky Blue Sky). Like i said it's a good album. All of these albums (Wilco's albums) are pretty close to one another and could easily be swapped out in order based on mood." I know your "Eddie's Father" comment was meant to be funny, but nothing about that theme song would I classify as "good". I think you're really wanting to say Sky Blue Sky sucks...yes?

My thoughts exactly. Watching the first song, I could barely hear the words being sung...all I could hear was keyboards.

- Ellen's opening monologue sucked. - Happy Feet beat Cars....you've got to be fu*#ing kidding me! - Will Ferrell and Jack Black had a funny singing bit about comedies getting no respect. - Melissa Etheridge won Best Song....you've got to be fu*#ing kidding me! - Ennio Morricone tribute...I love his music...very cool. - Little Miss Sunshine did not win Best Picture...bummer. The Departed DID win...very cool. - Al Gore got on stage to accept Oscar for Best Documentary...dude looks as plastic as ever.

Buckner's show are never as exciting as good rock shows, but I can be mesmerized by his voice and guitar alone. I'm hoping to see the Buckner/Six Parts Seven show this weekend, and will report back if I do so. I just found the following from the Daily Iowan online: The Daily Iowan Article by John C. Schlotfelt You want to know a bad combination? Try a tour van full of equipment and icy roads. Ohio's Six Parts Seven has already encountered its fair share after only a week on the road. "Yeah, it's almost best not to tour this time of year," founding Six Parts Seven member Allen Karpinski

OK. I'm mostly convinced. The prosecution rests, your honor.

In Albany? From a past tour, correct? He was probably alone or with a guitar player. I've seen him play alone, and it was very dry, but his voice alone made it worth it. He's backed by a band this time, which should add something great to his live show.

Is this supposed to make us think you've heard it? I've been telling friends Sky Blue Sky will sound like this....and I haven't heard it. Does the title track sound simple and bare or more loud and all-band sounding? Does Either Way have the same beautiful Nels guitar flourish as they played live? Is "You Are My Face" the same song as "Let's Not Carried Away"? Does Impossible Germany have the guitar-jam-rock in the middle of verses or at end of the song? Which is more rockin', Hate it Here or Leave Me? I'm not wanting you to spoil the album for all of us, but c'mon...give us something
-
Tell us about one specific thing you heard on the record that can prove you've heard it....the way a specific song begins or ends....a line of lyric from one of the yet-to-be-heard songs....a guitar, piano or drum freak-out that impressed you. Something. I think you're B.S.-ing us.

Buckner is in the middle of a long string of dates with a backing band called Six Parts Seven. I'm really curious to hear how these shows have been...it's been a long time that Buckner's toured with more than one accompanying musician. Anyone checked out a show? Here's his dates: Sun Feb 18th 2007 Brooklyn, NY @ Union Hall Mon Feb 19th 2007 Arlington, VA @ Iota Club & Cafe Tue Feb 20th 2007 Philadelphia, PA @ North Star Bar Wed Feb 21st 2007 State College, PA @ Darkhorse Tavern Thu Feb 22nd 2007 Newport, KY @ Southgate House Fri Feb 23rd 2007 Chicago, IL @ Schuba's Tavern Sat

Could be a sign of a string of European dates....good for y'all overseas. It's looking like Wilco won't play U.S. dates until June.
-
I would love to fourth it, but I haven't heard it. But I'll add it my list.

With Wilco's new album just around the corner, reviews with corny headlines are surely to follow. How about: Positive review: Wilco Reaches For Sky Blue Sky Negative review: Forecast for Wilco: Partly Cloudy

Leno is definitely left of center. And I get the feeling his wife, Maris, is a major Liberal. But it is hard to tell based on his material...which is one reason I like him more than Letterman. I watched Lettermen for a while a few months ago, and every freaking night he had a bit about Bush....usually a 5-10 second clip where Bush says something stupid or mis-pronounces a word. Y'know....that was kinda funny the first 200 times...but seeing our President talk like a 4th grader just isn't funny anymore. Leno's show never seems to be politically driven....which I like for a late night "enter

I agree. Letterman just isn't funny to me anymore. I used to not like Leno cause I thought he was too mainstream, but now I like to tune in to his monologue and then see what "bit" he does afterwards. Many times he'll have comedians go somewhere and be silly. And I occassionally see Fred Willard or Gilbert Godfried be involved in a bit. And I think SNL is unfairly bashed. I always enjoy at least 3-4 skits very much. The others are hit and miss.

Ha. Good point. It's my opinion that a few on this board have a tone of, "this music is lame...and if you like it you're a wussy boy"....much like many of the jocks in my high school.

I didn't see this posted...hopefully it ain't old news. FOW has an official press release about their new album, "Traffic and Weather". Also...they're starting to announce tour dates. Here's what they've announced so far: 04-21-07: Northhampton, MA Pearl Street 04-22-07: Boston, MA Paradise Rock Club 04-24-07: New York, NY Webster Hall And they'll also be at Coachella and Bonaroo. In late 2003, Fountains Of Wayne received a flattering, but rather puzzling, "Best New Artist" Grammy nomination (one of two categories in which they were named that year). This certainly made long

Welcome to Viachicago Sky Blue Sky High School: Sitting at one table are the nerdy, sensitive types who play Dungeons and Dragons, are in the chess club, and think Sky Blue Sky is beautiful and heart-felt and exquisite. Then at the other end of the lunchroom, are the jocks and partiers who laugh and snicker at the losers who listen to Sky Blue Sky.....making fun of them for liking something so un-rocking and un-edgy and un-Bennett and un-cool.
-
I respect your opinion that the new songs aren't good (although I TOTALLY disagree). But I think it's unfair to say a band like Wilco and a writer like Tweedy is being "safe". Tweedy's NEVER been like that and won't ever be. He's making a record that he wants to make. He could give flying piece of monkey crap that you think his new tunes are corny.
-
I agree. SNL is doing a better-than-average job this year of music guests. I STILL think there's a chance Wilco could get on....I'd say Wilco has a much name recognition as the Shins and Arcade Fire. Maybe next Fall, after Sky Blue Sky kills, Wilco will get booked.
