I'll second the OP8 album...it's really great. And The Listner is good also....that's the only Gelb solo record I've heard. I also would recommend Glum, which I believe you can only get from Gelb's website.

I know SNL gets ripped often...sometimes unfairly, I think. But I thought Saturday's show was quite funny. Sharpton and Jesse, Alec Baldwin running a mustache ride company, a new Andy Samberg digital short that was very bizarre and very hilarious, a skit about underage kids getting liquor, another funny Prince show with Armisen, a skit about a store called "Sofa King" ("our couches are Sofa King great"), a skit about John Mayer and Jessica Simpson, and Hammnod as Imus, among other stuff. And a couple energetic songs by Avril Lavigne. Anyone watch the show?

Searching around on the web, I found this....2" Wilco dolls by UNKL toys...they sound rare and hard to get. Supposed to be launched at the San Diego Comic Con this summer. Here's a link for a better look....I don't think I uploaded the picture properly...I'm a dumbass.... http://www.stereogum.com/archives/005101.html

OK. This thread appears very dead...but I wanted to post one more time....as I think the new FOW is worthy of a tad more discussion. I'm really diggin' most of the new tunes...only 2 songs would I say are below average. My favorite song at the moment is 'The Hotel Majestic'........hey, hey!

Imus may deserved to be fired....but I think it's unfair to label him as some idiot, talent-less shock-jock. Imus has raised tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars for various charities and causes....which helps ALL races. He has a ranch that takes in kids with cancer to live like a cowboy for 2 weeks....he says half the kids are from minority groups. Personally, I think it's a shame he can't stay on....he vowed to change his show....hiring an African-American in the studio and focusing more on race issues. He'd have accomplished more to mend race relations on his show than Shar

I doubt that most of you who are calling him a "hack" and "shitty broadcaster" and "no talent"....etc....haven't watched/listened to his show. Thanks to the many great guests and characters, I always enjoyed the Imus show. I found it 50 times more entertaining and interesting than ANY other news show. And listening this morning, I heard the Levon Helm band....it was great.
-
I watch Imus occassionally. I like the characters on the show....Rob Bartlett is a real talent...his Bill Clinton, Rush Limbaugh, Brian Wilson and Simon Cowell impersonations (among others) are great. And I happen to like Bernie....the politically incorrect producer who does the Cardinal bit. And Imus' guests are sometimes entertaining or interesting....i.e....Terry Bradshaw or Pat Buchanan or David Gregory. But mostly it's a media elitist program....which is why it's getting a big uproar. All the media elites want it to be known that they are shocked and outraged (but they still hope he

I bought the new FOW album a few days ago. The first time through I was a little under-whelmed...not sure why. But after a few listens, it's growing a lot on me and I'd say it's "very good". The music is solid great pop mostly throughout, but it somehow it doesn't have the fantastic music and lyrics combo that I think exists on Utopia Parkway...which I think is their best album. But nothing on the new album stops me from thinking they're still the kings of writing good, catchy pop tunes.

I'm hoping to see them. If I knew they'd keep playing Bus Mall, I'm there....great tune. Thanks for review.

Congrats to him....he's now on the road to making it nation-wide. -
(If I was the Rolling Stone editor): ART DIRECTOR: What cover would you prefer? I've got a great new photo of Wilco. OR...I've got a photo of a couple ladies from that new film, Grindhouse. ME: Let's put Wilco on the cover. They've earned it. Let me see the photos. ART DIRECTOR: Here's the Wilco photo. ME: Wow! That's phenomenal! ART DIRECTOR: And here's the photo of the Grindhouse Girls.. ME: (gasp) ART DIRECTOR: Sir? ME: (still gasping) ART DIRECTOR: Sir?.....um....which photo do you prefer? ME: Could you hand me that Wilco photo again? ART DIRECTO

The show is now up: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/mb It really is one of the better solo Buckner sessions I've heard.
-
It should be archived, like all KCRW performances. He sounded great. And played some awesome tunes......including a few Meadow songs like "Kingdom" and "Tether and the Tie", "10-Day Room" from Since, "Count Me On This One" from Impasse and "Figure" from Devotion and Doubt. And he said he's working on a movie soundtrack/score...it's a movie called Dream Boy....based off a book about a gay relationship in the South. Know nothing about the story, but if Buckner's providing sound for it, it'll be worth seeing.

This thread has entered the Twilight Zone. I'm outta here.

C'mon, April Fool's Day is over. Yuo're killing me. Your original post has so many contradictory points.....you liked AGIB or you don't? You think Sky Blue Sky is Wilco at it's musical best but it's not gutsy and has "shitty" lyrics? Jeff is belting it out like Elvis? That's a good thing, right? Or is it a bad thing?...I can't tell. Now you say you like Paul McCartney?....is that the genius Paul that wrote Elanor Rigby and Fixing A Hole or the Paul that wrote My Love and Let Em' In? Lee Hazelwood? Really? I'm baffled. By the way, good call on Bill Callahan....an excellent artist.
-
Coincidence that such a riduculous post was written on April Fool's Day? I think not. If the post WAS legit, then I'd like to ask Mr. Ships who, besides the esteemed Alabama, are some of his favorite bands or music artists?
-
Wasn't it on Summerteeth that the band made phrases by using the magnetic board technique? (Actually, they just wrote words down on paper, cut them out, and tossed thme in a bag or something). I think it was the genesis of lines like, "beware the quite front yard"......a great lyric, in my opinion.

VIC CHESNUTT 'Panic Pure' My earliest memory is of holding up a sparkler High up to the darkest sky Some 4th of July spectacular I shook it with an urgency I'll never be able to repeat at times i might be accused of being painfully nostalgic but as of late i'm looking forward to the future thought i've never been much of a planner throwing caution into the fan catch as catch as catchers can and so all you observers in your scrutiny don't count my scars like tree rings my jigsaw disposition, it's piecemeal properties are either smoked or honey cured by the panic pure SMOG 'D

That's not TOO outlandish....I, too, like all their albums...DEFINITELY one of the really solid rock bands going....even if it sometimes sounds like Brit Daniels has marbles in his mouth. But, to me, nothing is in the league of Being There....I'm absolutely ga ga ga ga ga about that classic Wilco record.
-
Thanks for the grammer...er....grammar lesson. And, yeah, my bad on the Gob Iron slip (I never bought the Gob Iron record.) In my head, I associated "Gob Iron" with other superb Farrar-inspired word creations like Terroir Blues, ThirdShiftGrottoSlack and Voodoo Candle.
-
OK...that's close. Farrar's "Gob Iron" is another not-so-great title. But, "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga"?..........it's just freakin' stupid.
-
(According to Pitchfork:) "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga".
-
Phew! After many close defeats over the years (Virginia, UTEP, Arizona, Rhode Island, Syracuse, Bucknell, Bradley), it's SO nice to pull one out. Great job by Southen Illinois. That Tatum dude is AMAZING. Thankfully, Brandon Rush was more amazing. Way to hang tough Jayhawks! Look out UCLA.

90 percent of the board just had a heart attack....including myself. It's all good....all opinions are valid. Could....some....(gasp).....one.....(gasp)......call.......me.......(gasp-gasp)......a.......doc.....(gasp).....tor?

I, too, love the DBT's Southern Rock Opera. I'll add Richard Buckner's "The Hill" and Okkervil River's "Black Sheep Boy".
