I think those were outtakes from A Ghost Is Born. Or was it The Wilco Book? I guess they were sorta the same sessions.

I’m way more excited for a possible AGIB deluxe edition. I feel like we’ve heard everything from the YHF era with the 2 sets of demos that circulated, but I hope that’s not the case.

This is how I feel as well! I bet there is some interesting AGIB stuff lying around. Those songs went through so many transformations from when they were debuted on the road to when the studio versions came out 2-3 years later. Alternate versions of "Spiders" and "Muzzle of Bees" would be particularly interesting, but who knows if studio recordings of those exist or not.

  2. Thanks Freedy and u2roolz for the track analysis. Really interesting to see what did and didn't make it, based on what Jeff has been playing on the Tweedy Show. One random thing that struck me today: I really liked the song "Cold Water Falling," which Jeff described as a work in progress on the show, and was a little disappointed it didn't make it on the album. But I happened to listen to Tweedy's "Showbiz Kids" soundtrack on Spotify today, and one of the songs/fragments on there sounds a lot like the music to "Cold Water Falling." It's track 7, called "Burbank, California." Anyone else pick up on that?

  3. There was a photo of them all Zooming recently; maybe the parts had already been laid down and Jeff just finished it.

Still, my bet is also on the Tweedy family record. But I'm hoping for this Wilco thing sooner rather than later.

Honestly, I wouldn't be as jazzed for a Wilco album recorded separately with them never being together. I'm sure they could do it, and it would probably sound good. But I'd rather they just wait and record together for a better energy, inspiration and direction. The quarantine makes no difference at all for a Tweedy record though.

  4. The Tweedy Show Monday July 13 Episode 71

-- Jeff says that he's recorded enough stuff during quarantine for a new Jeff Tweedy record. He's also finished writing the book which he will tell us about on a later date.

That sounds promising! Thanks as always for the recaps.

  5. I kind of wish I hadn't seen his name in the opening credits (or this post) to see whether I could have guessed it was him. Some very Tweedyish sounds. I heard some stuff reminscent of Summerteeth and his more current stuff, but mostly I got a big Loose Fur vibe.

Ha, I thought the same thing. I was surprised to see his name in the opening credits, and it made me listen intently throughout. Most of the time, I was wishing the interviewees would just shut up so I could hear the music! But yeah, I wondered if I could have guessed, or at least become curious, because the guitar was noticeably Tweedy-ish. The giveaway would have been when he played a few seconds of "Quiet Amplifier" about two-thirds of the way through.

  6. I was listening to the deluxe reissue of Being There yesterday, and it occurred to me that any of the bonus songs included on there, none of which have ever been played live to my knowledge, would be cool to hear:

    Late Blooming Son

    Dynamite My Soul

    Losing Interest

    Sun's a Star

    Better When I'm Gone

Any of those would be interesting, but my vote would be for "Losing Interest" or "Sun's a Star."

  7. So many great songs! I have a theory he or Susie read my thread? He played three request (two of diamond claws and one of mine) from the thread including blue eyed soul which I have been asking for forever! Was so good!

How crazy is that?! And of course it sounded amazing. Plus he segued into "In a Future Age" and a bit of "Pot Kettle Black," possibly my two favorite solo acoustic songs. Must be something about that tuning! I continue to be knocked out by the subtleties and nuances he performs on all these songs.

  8. Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for posting all these recaps. I don't get to watch a lot of these, but it is great just to read about it even when I can't tune in. Much appreciated!

  9. This should be good. I enjoyed Garlin's interview of Tweedy.

I wonder what happened to this. I had been waiting all season for a Tweedy appearance on Curb, but the after last Sunday's finale, the season is over with zero Tweedy (there were a lot of other celeb cameos though). Maybe he filmed something that got cut? Maybe plans fell through? Oh well, it was a pretty good season in any case!

  10. I think there was a comment in an interview from Jeff alluding to the album after Ode to Joy, this was months before OTJ came out.

But mostly I was just going off how prolific Jeff has been recently.

On the one hand, I can imagine Wilco coming out with another album this year. On the other hand, Jeff has pretty much put out one album per year since 2014...

  11. I'm almost certainly in for the Minnesota show. It's nice that it's on a Saturday, I can drive there on the day of and go home the next day. I suppose this likely means we won't be getting another Winter-prelude in Saint Paul this year? Was kind of hoping there would be one if we got another fall Wilco album.

As cool as it would be to get another Wilco album this year, I hadn't considered it remotely possible. Please tell me you know something I don't!  :D  :P

  12. Been meaning to post my list. I thought 2019 was a very good year for new music!

  13. Another fantastic show to end the run! Yes, more setlist variety would have been welcome, but getting "Monday" and "Spiders" was pretty special. I was the closest I've ever been for a Wilco show and wow, from up close you can really marvel at what Glenn does behind the kit. He is he hardest working man in the world back there. The complexity and subtlety he adds to every song is stunning. With some egging on -- that Glenn seemed to initiate himself! -- he stood on his chair to start ITMWLY, which is always fun.

"Bull Black Nova" was just sublime again, though I wish I caught "Laminated Cat" at least once. Jeff went back to the electric guitar for "I Might," which was another highlight. The "nothing" tally was in the 40s for "Misunderstood."

    Oh, and SVE is awesome.

  14. It really does depend where you are in the theater, and who is around you. We had great seats last night, and I thought the show was amazing. But I just cannot understand the people who insist on holding their phone up to take selfies (and then look at them), record the band or send text messages constantly. You are 15 feet away from Wilco in the flesh giving a face-melting performance! Be in the moment!

Personally, I don't think you should even be allowed to use your phone if you're in the first few rows. (Probably not popular or enforceable, I know.) Jeff and co. feed off of the energy up front, and it must be at least a little of a letdown for them sometimes to see the distracted apathy. Hopefully the band knows there are plenty of true fans living and breathing the performance and appreciating it with undivided attention!

Anyway, not a ton of setlist variety, but I was very excited to get "I Might." I hope there are one or two wildcards for the finale tonight!

  15. Chastain is the kind of venue where the best show of the year is always Chicago.

The odd thing to me about my Chastain experience was that the crowd was much younger than the typical Chastain season ticket audience (wealthy people nearing or well into retirement.)  But despite the relatively younger crowd, the level of disinterest was exactly the same as the type of audience that feels they're at a wine tasting/business schmooze with ambience provided by a live band rather than at a concert.

Ha! Great description, and sadly accurate sometimes.
