  1. Well put. Especially for a Tigers fan.
  2. I agree. There's just not a clear-cut villain and clear-cut victim in this situation. There's too much on both sides to sympathize with and to despise. I guess I tend to be harder on Israel because when you come right down to it, they're the ones with the military might (and they're backed by the nation with even more military might). It's hard to convince people you're a victim when you have such an imbalance in firepower in your favor. I understand and appreciate the history, and I understand the impulse to bring up that history when talking about this conflict. But that doesn't mean I ha
  3. I need to keep up with the RTT a little better. The moment for me to say "pics?" has already passed. You could still PM me some, though.
  4. I do that more and more. (that's water in those mugs ... uh ... yellow water with a head ... yeah ... )
  5. He was never a liberal. Go back and watch some of those HBO shows he did. I did enjoy Miller once upon a time. Then his obscure-pop-culture-references routine just got old. (And then he became a Bush zombie, but by then he'd long since lost me.)
  6. I think that speech was disgusting. Israel continues to justify its own atrocities by pointing to the Holocaust. That was a separate event that happened a long time ago on a different continent. It was horrible beyond measure, and it was something that the world should never forget, lest it happen again -- but it's time that Israel stopped using it to justify actions that are little better than those of the terrorists they now face. I don't pretend to have a solution to the Middle East problem, but I do know that the solution does not involve bombing innocent civilians, or destroying the i
  7. Agreed. I could never go back to the sugary (corn syrupy) stuff now. Unfortunately (imo), diet soda technology has advanced to the point where even some diet brands are too sweet for me. I had some Diet Stewart's Cream Soda recently, and while it was quite lovely in nearly every way, it was just too sweet. Sucralose and that aspartame/acesulfame potassium blend have amped up the sweetness quotient in a lot of beverages. I'm not sure where the American food industry got the idea that every goddamned thing has to be so goddamned sweet. Or maybe I'm just part of a small minority who doesn't l
  8. Not the "Beck makes me want to puke" thread that I was thinking of starting expecting.
  9. Not the Mr. Pibb/Red Vines thread I was expecting.
  10. Just think of Penn Station as a larger-than-usual bus shelter, and the Hudson River as a big creek.
  11. Don't forget those horns on "Rosanna" by Toto!
  12. Boy is that ever a huge pile of I Don't Care.
  13. Butt Pee > Hasselhoff > O'Reilly > Coulter > Hitler
  14. Not all the procedures described in the article involved umbilical stem cells. As for the thread title, I've already stated my own objection.
  15. Like, two dollars. Oh wait. That was before the Bush administration happened. Now it's just over $25.
  16. We have a store or two like that around here, I think. I first became interested in HD while watching the World Cup at a local bar. They had the TV on the regular ESPN feed until we noticed we weren't getting the HD feed, so the bartender switched us over, and the difference was amazing. For sports alone, I would definitely like to have it. I'm in a similar boat as far as cost, but I don't want to miss my chance at a good CRT set if that's the way I should go.
  17. His first two albums (With a Little Help From My Friends and Joe Cocker!) and the live Mad Dogs and Englishmen are all definite classics, but yeah, he's mostly an interpreter of other people's songs, not a songwriter. I haven't liked most of what I've heard from him post-1970, but I spin those first three records pretty regularly.
  18. An article I read today got me thinking that I might want to jump into the HDTV world sometime soon, because apparently CRT sets (HD and otherwise) are on their way out. I've always been told, though, that CRT HDTV sets are superior in picture quality to any flat-panel HDTV set. Is this true? Does anyone have a CRT HDTV that they love? Or hate? What should I be looking for if I decide to go shopping for one of these beasts? Are there flat-panel innovations in the pipeline that will make the difference in picture quality a moot point somewhere down the line? In terms of the space the unit
  19. If we're going back in time, I'd add the J. Geils Band.
