  4. Am I the only one here who's had enough of that dude?

i've only read sex, drugs, & cocoa puffs and found the humor and references to pop culture interesting and amusing, so i am looking forward to reading more. who knows if another book will be the stopping point, of if i'll read the rest after, but i did enjoy the one i read and thought it was very clever.

    Bukowski - Post Office

cool, read a lot of bukowski this year. got that one for xmas but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. my stack is getting bigger and bigger.

any word on the Factotum movie? i oppose to their decision to use matt dillan to play an ugly seedy greasy drunkard, but who knows, maybe he'll pull off the seedy greasy drunkard part alright.

  6. I couldn't believe this when I heard about it this morning. I was taken back at just how much it affected me. This is truly sad. This world will miss his energy.

    RIP Steve.

same sentiments here. celebrity deaths don't hit me usually, but everytime this one crosses my mind it makes me unusually sad. somehow, though in danger all the time, it seemed unexpected to me. i'll miss the joy that doing crocodile hunter impressions brought me in 8th grade, and that it can never be the same without our man steve.

good crocodile hunter memory: one episode where this very old croc they called "grandma" or something was on the last leg of her life, and the whole episode was about how to take care of her, etc. and when she finally died, it showed steve in tears talking about her as truly a great part of his life, and how he loved that croc as much as he loved his wife. it was so sad and moving, but it made me laugh thinking of what his wife would think when she saw it.

  7. I know they have many many dates scheduled for spring/summer after the new record comes out in February. They also may or may not be opening a bunch of dates for Modest Mouse.

eek, i kind of hope they're not on the bill with modest mouse for too many shows. i've alwys wanted to see them in an intimate setting with their fans, it would be incredible. great opportunity with this interview...good luck, sorry i don't have any questions, i'm not so good at that. please post about the experience and your article when it's done!

  8. It never seems like David Bowie gets enough love around here. Maybe after he sues Wilco for stealing the intro to "Oh! You Pretty Things" and tacking it on to "Walken."

hahah i've always thought that sounded very similar. i love that song (oh! you pretty things). i'm thinking i might take my senior quote this year from the song Kooks

  9. Maybe on paper, but don't kid yourself...the mean streets of Palatine, ILLinois are a motherfucker.

whoa man, i used to live in palatine! those streets are pretty crazy, without a doubt.

and also, that website is great, i especially loved the will sheff ones. put me on another of my okkervil river kicks.

  10. joannanewsom_ys.jpg

holy shit i think i might have done a complete 180 on her with this record... her voice is much more Billie Holiday than Lisa Simpson this time around, and the music is equally as gorgeous...

bit worried about the length of some of these songs (17 minutes!!!!) but through track 1, so far so good :music

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :D :D :D

  11. I think I hear a Wilco song every time I walk into Chipotle.

and none of them are songs i'd expect to hear either...i've never heard anything from any of wilco's main releases, it's always stuff like Promising and When The Roses Bloom Again

  12. working man's blues #2 might be the best song he's written in 20 yrs.

agreed. i love it, and i also love beyond the horizon...but not in the same way as workingman's blues #2. i do enjoy the album, but those two are definately standout tracks for me.

    about to play:
