Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra La La Band - "Horses in the Sky"

Looks like they've steered away from the super-long post-rock album title and opted for a super-long band name instead. :P

either way...mo'truckin silver mt. zion! one of my top albums of last year, and whoever they are-- with more instrumental stuff like prior albums, more vocals, singing in rounds-- they deserve more credit for it all. :worship

but for now, i'm still on my dylan kick with:

  2. also... Shankill Butchers??

seems like that song fills that niche

i see what you mean by that, but with the others (red right ankle, of angels and angles, etc.) i see the lyrics as being much more romanticized than with shankill butchers. looking at them all as stories, shankill butchers seems to me more of a mystery story, while the other two, both seem to be kind of playing with words (if that makes any sense) and tell a little more of a romanticized story. i dunno if that makes any sense at all, but that's how i've always viewed them because they've always been highlights of decemberists albums for me.

  3. You got your poster...? Can you tell me what it looks like? Is it AGIB artwork or a concert poster...? Just curious...

i got the tractor summer '06 tour poster, signed by them all. it's in the wilco store if you wanna take a look.

  4. :ermm Sorry to interrupt ... I saw a free preview tonight and laughed like crazy. Olive is an exact replica of one of our friends at age 7, which made it all the better. And I definitely want to get my hands on the soundtrack. :)

grabbed it today when i hit up Laurie's Planet Of Sound. Listened to it on the way home, defintely an awesome soundtrack.

  5. i would also like to add my ringing endorsement of 'little miss sunshine.'

saw it last week, went directly to the record store to buy the score. listened to it all week.

went to see 'little miss sunshine' again on saturday.

great crowd, lots of laughing and clapping during the film.

"thanks, duane. coming from you that means a lot."

awesome, going to see it in like 1/2 hour and always looking forward to great new soundtracks. i promised someone i'd see it with them, so i'll probbly end up seeing it again tomorrow too. yay!!!!!!

  6. I liked that one, too. It didn't look posed, just two friends having fun... and one of them is wearing a Wilco shirt! :w00t I've got a few more that I might send in, but I don't know if they're doing another round or not.

me too, i have a few from my trip to germany and just hanging around over the summer, but i dunno if they'll post the same people twice either.

  7. I got an e-mail on 7/25 asking for my mailing address, and letting me know that it would take about 4 weeks. Since we're only 3 weeks in now, I'm not too worried yet. I think kidsmoke's probably right though, it'll arrive eventually, so I'm not going to knock myself out looking for it.

Luka, which picture did you take? :)

Oh, and OTM, yeah, you deserve to win it with that one! :lol

true dat. i actually was trying to figure out how much longer til i got mine yesterday, and it was around a week or two. they'll get it to ya though, you can always trust wilco

I love the BBQ pic! I took the yellow flowers one.

and yours is probably my favorite so far. the with AGIB? i had the one with me and casinoqueen (morgan) on a ferris wheel. i guess they were kind of desperate because you could barely tell that it was even a wilco shirt.

  8. they did nice dream and toxic at lollapalooza today too! first time seeing them...been wanting to for about 2 or 3 years, but definately worth the wait, though they didn't play lighthouses tale :ohwell oh well, i guess lollapalooza isn't the place to hear that song anyway. toxic was actually awesome. hope someone tapes it sometime.

my summer reading for my english class next year...wasn't looking too forward to it, but it's a great travel memoir and somehow makes you jealous of the woman's experiences so secluded and sparse. captures a lot of beauty about a country i really didn't know much about.

  11. will do! i will most likely come up to his hands since he'll be the tall guy. if you talk to him, you can tell him i'll be the short girl with the sun tattooed on her left arm!

oh, and tony & i will be there.

    yay! i better see you...

  12. People who never come to a complete stop when driving, even when there's a stop sign involved.

One of the Big Important Rules I was taught in drivers' ed was that any time you enter the public roadway from a private drive, there's an imaginary stop sign. Apparently the American public doesn't have much of an imagination, because it's exceedingly rare that I see someone come to a stop before exiting a commercial parking lot or driveway.

oh...well i heard that all stop signs with a white border were optional, so...

  13. :wave i'm in for the long haul...all three days.

for those interested in wilco related music, don't forget about the blisters on the kiddie stage! :rock

Jen!!! i didn't know you were coming!! yay! i'll be there for all three days, except not most of the night of the 3rd night (including like the 2nd half of wilco's set :( ) umm...yeah. awesome.

  14. When I was very young, maybe five or so, I remember someone reading me one of those generic definitions of a guardian angel. I was with my grandmother, my father's mother, and I told her that I knew who my guardian angel was, it was my father. That memory is so prominent in my mind right now and I guess somehow I really hope that is true, that he is still with me. It is hard to deal with this. It truly was so very sudden and the pain is unbearable. These little notes to me provided me with the first smile in over a week. So thank you.

It is too bad that Jeff is stepping away from here. I have to say that listening to music since my father's death has been impossible. I can't read, run, or do anything that causes my mind to stop and focus. But I listened to Wilco last night. Probably all of the Wilco I have, all through the night. Just hearing Jeff's voice, his words and the music I love so much made me feel a sense of comfort that I have not been able to find in a while. I know it sounds odd to some people, but I wanted to share this.

I am not good with words right now. Everything comes out more simplistic and broken than I intend, but thank you all for your thoughts. Take care and be kind.

thank you so much for taking some of your time to let us all here at VC know how you're doing, we all appreciate it and are thinking of you. so glad to hear the comfort your finding in the music that means so much to us all, especially when you most need it. i'm so sorry for your loss, i'm thinking of you.
