  1. I am so used to listening to live performances that it kind of freaks me out to hear wilco album tunes out and about. It has happened twice in the colorado airport when we were awaiting our flight back to houston and I say with all sincerity that I danced at our table to it like an obnoxious high schooler. I'm really that much of a tweedy freakshow...
  2. yeah! happy birthday to a wonderful person! :party
  3. I'm so lost. I may just hide in the mountains til december. Every media I see seems so slanted, I don't feel like I actually know any of these four people--truly. I certainly haven't heard much in the way of real plans for the future, but what's new? Viatroy, I'm sorry if I got hot under the collar the other night, I've got other baggage that probably fueled me in the wrong direction that evening, and the debate was the breaking point. Everyone please keep the info fueling in--i feel like I find more genuine news here than any trash on tv...
  4. I guess we'll see what people thought. I don't think I can vote for mccain because of palin's outspoken problems with gay rights and a woman's right to choose. I'll leave it at that and end my tenure in the political threads, because I frankly can't stand the rhetoric, which so mirrors politicians themselves. I respect each of your viewpoints and wish no ill-will to any of the participants herein. night, NM
  5. Actually I referred to the title of the thread being horseshit. It doesn't matter. Sadly, the reasons why I can't vote for a palin probably mirror yours, but a damn message board will prevent that conversation from taking place.
  6. that's not the issue. It was the direct implication that if I can't see what's wrong with palin then no one can help me. I already have my own problems with palin, as I've clearly stated. But I don't deserve to be talked down to because I simply want to hear a fair exchange on tonight's performances.
  7. My apologies if that is not the case. I still think this thread would benefit from more than one point of view. What I find hysterical is that I am not even committed to a mccain vote. I'm just as likely to sway in obama's direction
  8. How dare you? I have already stated that I have reserved my vote and that palin has positions I can't agree with. Don't talk to me like I'm a fucking idiot. Use your rolling eyes icons all you want, all I asked for is a reasonable conversation about THIS debate. But I'm apparently too stupid to have an opinion on the subject Don't placate me. I would think as a moderator you would choose a higher ground.
  9. I disagree with palin on several fundamental issues, and still reserve my vote, but the way that some of you have already attacked her performance makes me realize I have no place in this thread At least have the courtesy to change the title of the thread, because this is a load of horseshit. This is not an open thread about the campaign, it is a massacre.
  10. Let me clarify: I am in no way opposed to a woman's right to choose. I was honestly just curious how many of you has actually read the opinion. It was a harmless question.
  11. I'm just curious Has any of you ever read the roe v wade opinion?
  12. I'm just so pleased that I might have made a point in this thread (I do not support palin, just for clarification) But I do think the point I made is valid. I once enjoyed dave matthews when I was in college and he was a nobody. Now I refuse to go to his shows in part because of his recordings but mostly because of the fans I would have to endure.
  13. You know how sometimes one dislikes a musical artist's fans more than that artist? I think some of that (I still recognize the disdain of the candidate herself) is in play with the criticism of palin. I think it frightens a lot of you that so many americans agree with her points of view. No? Just wondering.
  14. My wife and I often watch maher's. show. By and large I think it is a good show, though I can't remember a single time laughing during his monologue, contrasted with the many times I've cheered his closing statements. I happen to believe in a god, because I have experienced moments in my life in which I truly felt a presence. Does that make me an idiot? Maybe so. But I don't thrust my beliefs on others and I find it somewhat offensive when maher includes me (and MANY of his own panelists) in a class of morons just because of my own life experiences. I will definitely see this movie.
  15. there really should be a literal vc punching bag. I unironically sympathize with the deep-seeded angst that some of you have. I guess I just don't see the same picture and it makes me wonder why. I just don't believe that john's motives are disingenuous. Maybe they are and I'm just blind to it.
  16. My greatest fear in life is losing my father. Like you, gary, he is my best friend, and every year I age I learn more and more how much he sacrificed for me and how much he and my mom love me. My world could best be described as a total mess, and without some of the people on this board I'm not sure I'd still be around. true thanks for such honesty and such a great thread. I love guys.
  17. If politics were a penis, the sum total of the umpteen pages of vc election thread posts would have that poor thing tired and bent squarely to the left. Give that poor peter a rest will you? Let him breathe a little.
  18. I think the dog whisperer should be brought in as an expert witness to any hearings regarding the personal debt/spending habits of many Americans. Might help quite a bit to find a solution.
