I don't drink so I'm not up on the downtown scene much, but the area where the venue is has a few restaurants/bars as well as a Hard Rock. I'll ask around.

we just saw a seated show there (Ryan Adams) and there was no standing section in front. 98% of the shows I've seen there were general admission downstairs and all seated in the balconies, but apparently they've starting having more seated shows downstairs. So you should be second row, center section. It's one of Houston's better venues. Seen Wilco there twice I believe (it used to be Verizon Wireless).

sadly, John Mayer could probably do a fine job at literally covering SRV's stuff. But if he opened his mouth and started doing his whisper-stroke singing and/or fracking some unsuspecting 20 year old, it just wouldn't go well.
