When you have a job to get to, and a kid, and the lines are 2 hrs long, yes, sometimes you need a kick in the pants. I didn't. I am just offering up an answer to the prior post about how you shouldn't be allowed to vote if you don't know it's Election Day. That's not what those calls are about.
-
It's not a reminder because some people don't know or forgot. It's a reminder to get up off your butt and go vote like you swore you would for the last 6 months. It's a kick in the pants, dude.
-
Of course it's wrong. In what possible alterna-universe could it possibly be ok? Even with no national championship implications. Doesnt it just make a mockery of the entire process? Does anyone know if that Fullmer story re: UM is complete hogwash? I figure it probably is urban legend, but...
-
Haha. Would you??

There were rumors back in the old days that Fullmer cost UM a unanimous title by putting them 6th or something ridiculous like that in the Coaches poll as direct payback for the fact that Woodson won the Heisman over Manning. Michigan wound up being #1 in the AP Poll, and #2 in the Coaches Poll. Rumor had it that UM would have been #1 in the coaches poll even if he had them top 4 (which was ridiculous to begin with -- they were clearly the #1 team in the nation). I don't know if the rumors were true or not, but I still hold it against him. Jerk.

Reminds me of that great David Berman poem, Self Portrait at 28: We will travel to Mars even as folks on Earth are still ripping open potato chip bags with their teeth.

Come on, BT/SirS. No one (not even JUDE) is arguing that they should have to pay zero in taxes. Just that they don't think they should have to pay more (or as much).
-
No one is disagreeing with you. We are all lamenting the same reality. With government spending going up, no matter if McCain or Obama is elected, that means there's a disconnect and raising taxes is the only way to close the gap. "Cutting wasteful government spending" is like being in favor of "education reform" and "renewable energy." They're just talking points. Politicians say it all the time.

Sure. You also cant add up 35+10+20 and say that the combined rate is 65%. This entire discussion is silly.
-
I dont know what's reasonable, but I know that's what it costs to live in NYC (except I bumped up the capital gains/dividend rate to solve for the fact that we pay state AND city taxes). And that's under Bush. So, if that's not reasonable, would you propose cutting more than the Bush cuts? I understand what you are trying to do by getting the discussion to focus on numbers. Too often these discussions are hypothetical without numbers. But can we really have a productive discussion around federal income tax rates being 35% instead of 39%? Would you really be happy if I "lowered" your com

Wilco tells fans not to waste $$$ on their Blu Ray
MattZ replied to watchtower41's topic in Just A Fan
I wonder how much the band makes on each sale of the regular DVD and how much the band would make on each blu-ray sale. Especially if the blu-ray was made without their "input"? -
35% federal income tax 10% local tax 20% capital gains tax/dividend tax EDIT: and how about 8 3/4 sales tax.

I understand -- that's exactly what I said above: too much credit and blame goes to presidents. That's also why I referred to 2010. Maybe I am wrong, but I have a feeling that if the economy turns around (or doesn't), you will have a theory for why it turned around (or didn't), and you will cast your vote accordingly. As would any other voter. I don't think we are going to be too busy being thankful. We shall see. Maybe I am wrong.

There's some truth to this. Presidents get entirely too much credit and blame. If this economy turns around, the Bushies will insist it was because of the moves they made before leaving office. And the Obama folks (if he is elected) will insist it was because of the moves Obama made in office. So we can continue to go around in circles. Yippee.

I think Obama will do a good job of bringing people together. If they are willing to be brought. My bigger fear is that the right will do everything in their power to continue polarizing the country with a view to 2010. McCain spent a lot of time in his campaign suggesting that Obama would lose a war to win an election. Let's ignore for a moment the type of campaign that McCain ran for the last 2 months and what that means about his desire to win an election. I just hope that the right doesn't spend the next two years "rooting" for Obama to fail so that they can take Congress back in 2010

Yeah this band has some mindblowing openers. Yeah this is sort of what I was getting at. Scoring a new tape was the greatest thing and would get worn to pieces. I just wonder how the scene changes now. I sort of dropped out of the scene after Big Cypress so even for those post hiatus shows, I was half-out the door already and wasn't paying attention to the scene -- or tapes/BT.
-
I am wondering how the fan base will be different now that we live in a BT world. I mean, there will probably be lots of young(er) fans attending these shows that have never seen the band. But I guess that with BT, they will certainly know every song and every gimmcik that the band has/had, right? I mean, someone earlier mentioned a Buried Alive opener (that actually used to be my favorite opener). I used to have one copy of that tune on a beat up crappy Maxell tape. Nowadays, I guess phans have 36 different copies in lossless format.

That post right there is why, even though I am not going to Hampton (and didn't even try to get tix), in the back of my mind I am thinking I may regret it. And that post is what's great about the band. Something like that is actually possible. God, can you imagine? The roof would come off the place.
-
They sure did. Let's hope you are right. A curtain sandwich around the break up would be awesome. And much better than the Big Cypress meatstick sandwich.

Great calls. Wow.

I am going to see Ryan Adams tonight. I can see it already. I will walk in signing Wilco: The Song and I will walk out singing Wilco: The Song.

A sonic shoulder for you to cry y y y on. Wilco.
