Ok, fair point. We will never know, but I think Obama showed enough times in his campaign that it was going to be done his way. Not the conventional way. Case in point: picking Biden and telling HRC to take a long walk/short pier. And he was in a dogfight with HRC in the primary and didn't even approach negative. But yes, you are right. His back was never truly against the wall. No way to know what would have happened if it got desperate.

Haha, I think you're right. And to keep with the Bob Dylan theme: from Cry Awhile: Last night 'cross the alley there was a pounding on the walls It must have been Don Pasquale makin' a two a.m. booty call To break a trusting heart like mine was just your style Well, I cried for you - now it's your turn to cry awhile

This is pretty awesome. That's one guy who's brain I'd love to pick this morning. You can never really trust what comes out of his mouth, but if he's playing Blowing In The Wind after a statement like that, I don't think he's being sarcastic. He may be full of sh*t when he gives quotes, but I don't think he's ever full of sh*t when he plays his music.

I'd disagree with this... If you remember when McCain got the initial Palin bump, and McCain/Palin were on the offensive and his lead was shrinking, lots of nervous Democrats (some here included) immediately started calling for Obama to hit back. When was he going to start fighting? When was he going to show that he couldn't be walked all over? He refused to fight back and insisted that a candidate could be elected to the highest office in this country by sticking to his ideals, by sticking to his platform. Now, if you want to tell me that such a move was just as calculated as any decisi

I remember when Julio Franco was on the Mets and he was something insane like 47 years old, everytime he did something, the announcers said he was the oldest player to ever do what ever he did. Julio Franco is now the oldest baseball player that has ever hit a home run Julio Franco is now the oldest baseball player that has ever been hit by a pitch Julio Franco is now the oldest baseball player that has ever made an error Julio Franco is now the oldest baseball player that has ever struck out. Those were some good times.

Wilco tells fans not to waste $$$ on their Blu Ray

Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation futureage1. Makes sense. I guess what I'd say, just from a gut standpoint, is that I probably knew that the film itself was not necessarily "perfect." If pushed I'd probably be able to pinpoint some shots that aren't great or that some handheld shots were too jerky. But I figured that it was part of the charm of the movie. I might have even guessed it was intentional to give the film more of a certain feel. Guess I don't know what I am talking about (which I've never argued otherwise ) Just interesting to me how sometimes knowledge can get in the way.. -

Yeah, I looked there before posting. I am not sure I get it. Is the critique that it is generally accepted in film circles that Jones set up great shots, but didn't light them well? Or used bad cameras? -
I would advise starting with something other than the Town Hall show. First off, it's a live album, and second, it's with strings. So all the songs are presented differently (obviously). My humble opinion is that you should start with the songs in their original permutation before venturing out to alterna-versions. I started with Blinking Lights and worked backwards. Seemed to work for me. Shootenanny is great too.

Oh, I know. When I realized it, I stopped laughing. I am sure the Dems would fillibuster any Bush appointment. And I have to think that the outrage in the public would prevent Bush from doing it anyway. I think.

I have one word for all of you: Swlabr.

Jeez, can you imagine what would happen if he died before 1/20? Lame duck Bush appointment? Wow.

John Paul Stevens is free to die now.

I dont have any problem with what Jack Bruce said. I realize it's all subjective, but I would take Disreali Gears (and Wheels of Fire) over any LZ album. Just my opinion of course, and I realize that I am very much in the minority.

I don't know much about filmmaking, but I'd be interested in learning more about why it's so well accepted that Sam Jones shot a poor film. And what it means to be a good photographer but bad cinematographer? I thought they were the same thing. (Shows how little I know). -

Armed Forces just wouldn't have cut it... nice work. But I am going to put on AF now.

I was going to do that, but I figured the point would be lost on some folks.

This is the first time that I have felt like people are coming together to work for the common good in a long time, and I just don't get how that's a bad thing. In any way, shape or form. Snarky and predictable Radiohead posts, and "whats on your playlist" threads notwithstanding, let me paraphrase Elvis Costello: what the f*ck is so funny about peace, love and understanding (and voting)?
-
Jeez, man. Everyone is doing everything they can to pitch in. Friends of mine got in vans to go to OH and FL this weekend to help get out the vote, and to help get people rides to polling places. If you're too "dumb" to have figured out how to get to the polling place before election day, should you not be able to vote either? What if you live in PA, are undecided, and some college kid from California knocks on your door and convinces you? That ok? People knock on hundreds of doors and consider it a victory if they get 5 people to the polls. Maybe Jeff was doing the same. Either way, w

How long did you wait in line to vote?
MattZ replied to Serak_the_Preparer's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Longest lines I have ever seen in NYC. Took me 1hr 40mins. I've never had to wait more than 5 mins before.
