If the Big 3 lead the charge toward energy independence, isnt the govt doing exactly what you say above?

Not to mention, you are taking quite a leap of faith when you say that "people should just go find a job." If the Big 3 go under, those are lost jobs. Jobs the economy doesn't have any more. You continue to advocate for policies that would likely cause more layoffs in more industries, if not more bankruptcieis, resulting in more jobs lost. And a more hostile environment for business to flourish, resulting in less investment, and fewer opportunties to hire. In other words, my biggest problem with a lot of what you say is that many of your assumptions are based in the old world order, and

Yeah, I guess the version from the album is the one that we danced to at our wedding, but man, I like the live version much better (from lower down on the same page). Thanks for the link - I love that website. EDIT: Also, fwiw, I flat out love Trey's solo in the end of that song. Watching it on Bittersweet Motel is wonderful.

Ok, fine, I admit it. This is pretty addictive.

Is this heaven? No, it's Winnetka. --4/5/08

Also, after you've defined "let's" for mfwahl, please define "short term" for me. You suggest that the pain will be for the short term. How long is that?

Haha, awesome! Sample is pretty easy... And fun. Also, I know Roses are Free is a cover, but that's pretty easy too. Waste was my first dance at my wedding. Also, pretty easy, but that one chord. Damn you, chord!! When I am in the first/second fret this pinky just can't get to the 5th fret on the high e string. Maybe by our 50th wedding anniversary, I can finally perform it for her. 5 1 2 0

Come on people. Everyone knows that NYC is the center of the universe. Just ask us NYers. I agree that Chicago is pretty cool though. Maybe 1A.

yes yes yes

You also have to wonder how the steroids issue factors into the evaluation of pitchers. Since most people seem focused on performance enhancing drugs used by hitters only, you'd think that if hitters stats are inflated, that pitchers stats were deflated. And Moose's stats look pretty great in that context. Like i said, if you assume for purposes of this discussion that the pitchers weren't juicing (and I think they were).

Mussina = HOF?

I know that taste in music is purely subjective, but I'll be damned if the Beatles' supremacy isn't as close to objective as anything can possibly be in these types of discussions.

Whoa, what? You just blew my mind. That page also has Beatle tabs? I never saw that.

We agree on the important things in life, bobbob, that's for sure.

Yes. Oh yes. Chills.

Vegas had set the odds for "everyone agreeing in the end" at 30-1. I hope you people got your bets in.

I can agree with this. It's also why the "you'd never put your 1b at 2b, but you could put your 2b at 1b" is besides the point. It's a different position built for a different type of player. It's also why good offensive 2bs are so valuable. To have someone with the range and athleticism to play 2b and to put up offensive numbers like Utley is tremendously valuable. (And yes, I'd argue more valuable than 1b )
-
I agree with all of this. I am not sure how this argument got turned around. I definitely think that shitty defensive players can, and often do, get stuck at 1b where it's easy(ier) to hide. The fact that teams do it is evidence of nothing. How many picks of errant throws don't get made? How many runners don't get forced out at 2b on a sacrifice bunt? The fact that it's easier to do a "bad but serviceable" job at 1b doesn't mean that 1b is easier than 2b. It means it's easier to do a bad job at 1b.
-
Ok, so now we have an actual argument!! I'd argue that the 3-6-3 DP is the hardest play on the infield.
-
Come on. And I'm the one with the bit? Are we talking about amorphous and intangible concepts? Or real ones? Fine, you are correct that a 1b doesnt change how good the 3b is. But a gold glove 1b will reduce the 3b's errors. Ok? I'd argue that Glaus is "better" if he has 8 errors on the season instead of 15.
-
Haha, look, if you stuck two bad fielders in a room and told me that one of them had to play 1b for me, but one of them was a bad 1b and one was a bad 2b, well, I don't know what the heck I'd do. All I am saying is that the "skillset" for a "gold glove 1b" is just as important, impressive, and difficult (if not moreso) than the skillset for a gold glove 2b.

A gold glove first baseman makes every infielder better. A gold glove second baseman does not.
