  1. Yeah, I guess the catalog is so enormous, that it's possible to miss, and there are probably references that I'd still miss. I didn't mean for the question to sound all snooty and whatnot. I just thought that the song itself, the refrain and the subjects were as central to his catalog as any. At the end of the day, anyone can be a fan of anything for any reason and they don't have to pass a credibility test for me. But, I dont know. Can someone be a fan of Martin Scorsese and not know who Henry Hill is? I guess the answer is yes. But it just seems weird.
  2. I had a discussion with a co-worker of mine about this story last week. A self-described Dylan fan. He didn't get the Zanzinger reference. Didn't make the connection. I pushed him on it and he told me that he "knew" the song, but didn't really "focus" on the "lyrics" that closely. Can someone be a Dylan fan and not get the Zanzinger reference right off the bat? Is this possible? I dont mean literally. I understand that Dylan has a gazillion albums, and it is entirely possible for someone to like an artist but not be familiar with every single song they've ever put out. But this seems
  3. Not sure I completely agree with cryptique, but I do agree that stats can't possibly communicate the feeling that fans of opposing teams had in their gut when Jim Rice (or insert example) came up to bat in the 9th with runners on base. And while that feeling in the gut is not quantifiable, it IS relevant to a HOF discussion. 382 can be a very bland number when it sits on a page surrounded by other numbers. And if you had that feeling in your gut vs. didn't have that feeling in your gut, my guess is you'd feel very differently about what that 382 meant.
  4. What will you do if the Dolphins draft him to take over for Pennington? This is a serious question. I always struggle with what to do if my favorite pro team drafts a guy from college that I don't like. Then again, I have never hated someone (or his fucking face) as much as you hate Tebow (and his fucking face).
  5. I should also point out that nothing that I said above is any statement about whether Mangini will be a good coach in CLE. He is certainly a smart, young coach with as much upside as anyone that I can think of in the league. It would not surprise me if he flourishes in CLE. He is smart enough to learn from his mistakes. But again, he had a bad year, there is a less room for error in NYC (well, NJ), and like bjorn said, the team probably felt the need to start fresh and not have a coaching controversey heading into next year. I wish him (and the browns) well.
  6. No one person is ever to blame in the context of a team sport. That all being said, Mangini did a terrible job this year. It's true that he made some bad calls in the SEA game, and it's true that Favre was hurt, but the Jets D led the league in sacks through 6 or 7 games and had absolutely no pass rush for the second half of the year. The Jets signed Calvin Pace to a big contract and then used him sparingly at best on the pass rush, instead opting for having him drop back into pass coverage. Kerry Rhodes, a former all-pro is consistently underutilized. Mangini is severely limited in his h
  7. Yeah, sorry. I should've been clearer.
  8. Mother. Gives me chills every time.
  9. I think I love you guys. (None of those are bad choices, but I prefer "Another Nail for My Heart")
  10. I cant believe those guys made me sleep in my car for two days on the side of the road in the traffic jam to end all traffic jams and then abandon my car on the side of the road and carry my crap 15 miles into the campground at Coventry to see them for their final show. Only to find out that 3 years later they'd be back. Opening summer tour at Jones Beach. Argh!!
  11. Man oh man. The tour opens in NY. Man oh man.
  12. I'd get fired too if my boss found out I was interviewing somewhere else. But you are right -- who is going to want to go to BC now? This AD might be standing on principle to shoot himself in the foot. It's a shame though that no one (players or coaches) can live up to the contracts that they sign.
  13. You may also have the Best. Avatar. Ever. Nice work today, buddy. 2 for 2.
  14. How about we hear what the song sounds like on the album before we complain about how badly it turned out on the album that hasn't been released yet because it hasn't been recorded yet?
  15. For what it is worth, Kissinger also agrees that daughters leaves their dads to marry.
  16. Maybe I need to rethink this irrational dislike of everyone who likes that show. If anyone can make me change my ways, it's The Bunk. Thanks The Bunk.
  17. that song from Friends deserves consideration although I am willing to consider that my hatred of the song has as much if not more to do with the show itself and the people who watch it.
  18. I can't think of two better songs for them to do. Everything comes together right there.
  19. the United Way spoof from SNL that he did was priceless.
