Yeah, sorry. I was responding to Flick's point about being surprised that he was man enough to admit it.
-
As I said above, the guy didn't admit jack. He was busted red handed. He is claiming that he only did it in Texas. I don't believe it for a second. He is only admitting what he needs to admit and this has PR written all over it. Good for him, I guess, but he gets no points from me for honesty. I dont know. But I dont believe a word out of that guys mouth. And you know what? It's his fault. ARod insisted the pressure in Texas was why he started to do it? Really? What about the pressure in NY?

These guys that admit their steroid use "once or twice" (Pettite) or "back in 2001" (ARod) can go f*(k themselves if they think I am going to believe them. I dont know why this annoys me so much, but it's one thing if you lie. Its another thing if you lie when you come clean. Seriously. Long walk/short pier.

Jeff Tweedy February 7, 2009 - Letters To Santa Living Room Show
MattZ replied to Edie's topic in After The Show
Cool story here. The initial request was for Nothing Up My Sleeve (from the YHF demos). Jeff swore that he had no idea what this song was. Which resulted in some back and forth with us singing it to him, and him insisting that he has no idea what it is. So, as a consolation prize, Chris demanded a "new song" that has "never been played before" that will be on the new album. Tough crowd indeed. The debut of Deeper Down was the result. Nice work, Chris. -

Edie - you missed Mountain Bed (MattZ). Should be after Not for the Season and before Late Greats. -
I saw Jeff's Living room show on saturday in winnetka and he played wilco the song. When the song was over someone asked what tuning it's in, and he said DADADE. So, you can get away with it in drop D obviously (I play it the way it's tabbed out above), but the man himself confirmed that's not correct. I thought other folks here would be interested in that little tidbit.

I know what you mean. I think it's just one of those books you have to finish if you want to have any hope of getting it.

Don't forget Malkmus.

here are the first 5 that popped in: 1. anna karenina - tolstoy 2. childhood, boyhood, youth - tolstoy 3. owen meany - irving 4. metroland - barnes 5. the wilco book just kidding on #5. I am 500 pages into Infinite jest, and I am keeping a seat warm for it. I noticed not much tolstoy in this thread. Is this because folks have read him and don't like him or haven't read him?

damn Moe. At your suggestion, I just put this on and got whiplash from being transported back to summer 1997. I will never forget when they started debuting this tune. Or, when I started hearing it. (I think it debuted in summer 97). Great song.

who is the "we" referring to there?

now that David Berman has hung it up, I need to go somewhere else. Where do I want to start with this cat? With this album? Or somewhere else?

There is no way to talk about this without being hyperbolic and I dont want to say anything that will offend anyone. But just know that if my thought dreams could be seen they'd probably put my head in a guillotine.

It doesnt matter where you start with Wilco. I started with YHF and I love AM too. What matters is if you like AM.
-
And to take Moe's point one step further beyond the fans themselves, Phish opened me up to a ton more music. I went out and bought VU's Loaded after Phish covered the album for halloween. Phish has covered everyone from Taj Mahal to Talking Heads to Chuck Berry to Led Zeppelin Stevie Wonder to ZZ Top to Son Seals. The list is pretty doggone impressive.

sorry I missed this. happy birthday!

Man, here's what I know about the entire appointment process: much of the drama is media driven. It is virtually impossible to find someone anywhere without a gotcha moment somewhere in their life. But Richardon, Daschle and Geithner? Holder signing off on the Rich pardon? The new commerce secretary calling for the department's abolition (according to drudge)? Could this be going any worse? Welcome to Washington, President Obama.

Really? I am beginning to wonder why I pay mine.

I know you are using this as evidence for the fact that he is not a flash in the pan, but that definitely seems like an odd way to prove a point.
