  1. I cannot prove a negative, Jules.
  2. there's a beacon theatre in Manhattan. This is not that.
  3. Beacon NY. Not Beacon Theatre. (Just making sure you realized it...)
  4. afwul bliss -- gbv (crap, they run mutiple vocal tracks at the end)
  5. each of the albums is like a member of my family, and I wouldn't be able to rank members of my family. I can't say that I love my sister more than my brother. I think American Water is a good place to start for a number of reasons -- especially if you like pavement. There's a nice dose of Malkmus on that one. Tanglewood Numbers is the most rocking. Natural Bridge is the difficult masterpiece. Bright Flight is the glass of red wine under a tree in late spring/early summer. Starlite Walker is where it all began. LOM, LOS is the hopeful end.
  6. Ok, as promised, I put the women and kids (ok, woman and kid) to bed on Friday night, locked up, and walked down to Landmark Sunshine theaters on Houston St for the 10pm showing. This thread inspired me. And with TheBunk and bjorn bouncing around my head, I downed an espresso (long day), and found my seat. To be honest, expecting the worst. I was pleasantly surprised. Not sure what I would have thought if I went in expecting the movie of the year. It was a rollercoaster of a ride through emotions that are sometimes too hard to think about, let alone talk about, and I was stunned by the
  7. It's great. Obviously, I am a biased fan, but it's great. Way better than (*ahem*) other poetry books written by other musicians.
  8. I liked Person Pitch, and after about 5 listens, I am ready to say that I don't like MPP. I will continue listening. (FWIW, I didn't like any of AC's prior albums). Not sure why Person Pitch worked for me.
  9. What about the pitcher 60 feet 6 inches away?
  10. Double whammy. Cheating + illegal. Raines only had one. Perry only had one.
  11. I don't know what I'd do. But that's not the question. I am perfectly happy to sit on the fence and point out where I think both sides on this issue are wrong. Pro-Bonds folks insist that steroids didnt have a specific penalty in the game or that his pre-steroids numbers get him in. But steroids are and were illegal. If something is illegal, I don't know why there has to be a specific penalty in the rulebook. Of course it's not allowed. It's illegal. So, if we agree that some issues in baseball are bigger than numbers (Pete Rose), and we can agree that using steroids without a prescri
  12. You didnt answer my tongue in cheek point about whipping out a gun and shooting the pitcher. If steroids are illegal, and you can go to jail for using them, the players engaged in illegal activity. Why does baseball have to have a specific penalty?
  13. Sure. And my point is that if you believe that steroids are illegal, and make a candidacy moot, you can take the position that "pre-steroids" stats are irrelevant to the analysis. Because its not just about numbers. I know this has nothing to do with whether Bonds did or didn't use.
  14. They are comparable in the sense that, in some cases, some issues are bigger than numbers.
  15. When there's trouble I don't like running But I'm afraid I've got more in common With who I was than who I am becoming
  16. I think it's true. He posted a goodbye letter on the SJ message board.
  17. I just read my company's employee manual and there is no mention of penalties for smoking crack in my office. Sweet! Suckers!!
  18. Steroids may not have had a specific penalty on the books, but they are illegal. As in, it is illegal to use them without a prescription. I don't understand why baseball has to have a specific penalty on the books. You can go to jail for it. Is that not evidence enough? Baseball also doesn't have a penalty on the books for whipping out glock and blowing away the opposing pitcher. Does it need to?
  19. I know it's early, but we already have a contender for Best Thread and Best Post(s) of the year.
  20. Ahhh, but did Beltmann love it? I am gonna see it and come back to this thread. Not sure that I can pull it off this wkd. But I will do it.
  21. Nah, we were all good natured about it. It's just funny that that was the song that inspired the thread!
