As a dem who voted for Obama, I'd like to say that the folks in the top 2%, that are apparently going to fund Obama's spending plans, are the people who probably lost the most when the market turned over, and the people who started and own and run the companies that employ people like me. If those folks bail, people like me (and many others) will lose their jobs, and this recovery that we are all desperate for will be much further off than we think. Whether the income disparity between the top and the bottom is widening or not, we NEED the folks at the top to keep doing a lot of what they'v

Yeah, i should edit my post. I meant to say that it looks like an 0-18, not a 00-18 or 000-18. The body is just too small.

So, the thread on jeff's guitars and my love of the old-martin sound got me surfing around on ebay. I am not in the market for a pre-war martin, and I won't be for a long time (if ever), but I saw some interesting guitars for sale, and it got me thinking. As a general matter, when cracks are repaired, does the guitar sound any differently? I guess the answer is going to be, depends where the crack is, and depends how good the work was? I ask because some of these guitars with minor repairs seem to be a fraction of the price. And if the difference in sound is minimal, that's all I care ab

god my wife would kill me if I get one of these. these guitars are priceless. Not even that I have the money for them. I don't have 5k. But if I had more money, it wouldnt matter if they cost $100,000. Also, have we resolved that Jeff plays a 00-18 or is that still up for discussion? I really don't think that body for the 0-18 or 000-18 looks right.

thanks for the recommendations, peeps. This is some great stuff. Another party that I showed up late to, but at least I got here. Someone pass the moonshine!!

Maybe, but I like putting the needle down on a record. Reason enough for me.

the winner, and STILL champions...!

I play this tune in open D with a capo on 2 (thanks to Anthony for directing me to the dylanchords site). But I am virtually certain that Jeff plays it in standard tuning (as Kalle tabbed out in the link posted above). Both sound good, but if you want to sound like BOTT, you gotta play it open. You need the drone.

Kristofor, you don't have to explain yourself. I hate U2, and I thought your post was cool. If you like it, right on. That's all that matters. (Whats So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding?

as far as post-hiatus shows, my favorite was probably 2/24/03, when BB King sat in. I remember going to the bathroom at set break and I think I may have been the only one in the entire arena not complaining. It's funny to read comments about this show now and how people think it was so great. Everyone there was complaining that night! I sort of understand -- Phish had come back and people wanted to see Phish. But jeez, it's BB King!! I think that show was better than the Nassau coliseum show a few nights later (all my friends disagree(d)). No one in my section had any idea what Destiny

You know, you're right. I even met the guy once, shook his hand, and he struck me as a really nice, selfless guy. I dont even know why I said it. I guess at this point, it's just ingrained in my head from reading about it everywhere else. I shouldn't have said it. You're right.

Hey GTM - I didn't mean for my post to paint with such broad brush strokes. I certainly dont think all the newbies feel that way (nor do I think all the oldbies (?) agree with me). And I am very well aware of how lame (and incorrect) the tired and cliche'd rant against newbies is among various bands (not just limited to Phish, by any stretch). Here's another way of putting it. I am sure most people remember the scene in Bitterwsweet Motel where Trey is reading the review about pissing in the ears of the audience? And how the audience lapped it up? The groundswell of demand for Phish to

Yeah, I am sure you are right and it must all be related. I remember when they broke up that Trey said that they used to practice 8 hrs a day when they were kids. And that they were at stages in their lives where they couldn't and didn't want to do that any more. How could I blame the guy for that? It makes perfect sense. But if he knows it, we have to assume they won't come back unless they are ready, right? Then why is he working with the BSO? And Mike working on a new album? I guess we will find out soon enough. Part of me thinks they are going to play 3 shows of new material in Ha

You know, it's interesting. I've been thinking a lot about this (as someone who got shut out of tix to both Jones Beach shows). They've been away for long enough (and out of their heydey for long enough) that everyone is itching to get tickets. And lots of the folks getting tickets now are people who never saw them, or were really young when they caught them the first time. I don't want to suggest that these phans will accept below par shows, but I get the sense that some phans are just happy to "see Phish." If that makes any sense. Not that I am getting all "old-timer" here (although I

I was half-joking when I said The Beatles. Only because I hear more of them in most *good* bands today than I do any other. I assume that's what was meant by "important." But I assume the original poster meant important bands from today. As for whether The Beatles or Dylan have the crown, I say it's a push. Maybe Dylan by a nose.
-
Yeah, I am more worried about this. From everything I've read it looks like they are doing everything BUT practicing. The first comeback didnt work because they werent practicing. Now Trey is working with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra? I can't blame the guy -- he should do whatever he wants. But we all know that Guyute is going to suffer as a result. And that will hurt.

The Beatles.

The president may not write legislation, but this bill is (rightly) associated with Obama. I can understand why people would think it's offensive, and while I can't say that the cartoonist/paper is racist, I can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that they are stupid. Putting a sign around the chimp's neck that says "Congress" would have been an easy fix that should have been obvious to most people.
-
Racist? Not racist? Stupid? All of the above?

every album I/we get from here on out from Dylan is a blessing. Who knows how many more there will be. I guess you can say the same thing about any band, but it feels different with this guy.
-
TheMaker complains that it's derivative blues!!
-
Hell yeah!

Ok, not looking to nitpit the point. There are certainly artists that I feel the same way about. Maybe I am more idealistic than you at heart, but I dont know how you can be a fan of a band and not think/hope that release date (or leak date) has a shot to be your first exposure to your (next) favorite album ever. Seems to me that that's all part of the joy of music and being a fan. Who doesn't get chills when their favorite band releases a new album? We can drop it. I see your point.
-
haha, sorry. Make that D Banda.
-
I know it is. And you said that you thought that 6.5/7.0 is the best they can do at this stage in their career. So I am surprised you would be interested in a band that can do no better than above average. But Norbs/Bunk cleared it up, if I just misunderstood.
