victorgator, i couldn't have said it better. cain's was, is, and will always be THE premier venue to see live music in this area. people need to get the hell over their expectations and simply enjoy the show for what it was: an opportunity to see a gifted musician recongnize the crowd he's playing to, very quickly adapt his arsenal, and ultimately deliver a fantastic show that ultimately turned into probably one of the most positive music experiences i and likely the naysayers have ever witnessed.

[quote name='jonshell' date='Jan 20 2007, 03:47 PM' post='810549' in conclusion, i'll probably never go to tulsa again for a show. i'd rather drive an extra couple hours and see him with a less disrespectful crowd. that's fine, tulsa fans will do fine without you. there were a few zealous fans that probably don't read via chicago and don't know that you aren't supposed to yell during a solo show. i do think those less than 1% of the crowd were a bit obtrusive, but jeff handled them with professionalism and grace and drew the other 99% of the fans into a very intimate, fun, personal "sin

1. The Hold Steady's new one - i know there hype is getting out of hand but it really is a great disc 2. The Best of Blind Willie McTell - piedmont blues at its best and truly music for the sake of expression and 2 oklahoma bands if you want some obscurity but great music 3. Mike Hosty - un hombre malo or golden country hits 4. The Effects - their latest EP (trust me these guys will be huge in 12-18 months) and i have no affiliation with either of the last two other than i get the privilege of seeing them live on a fairly frequent basis.

barring the state shutting down the turner turnpike, i'll be there. i'm bringing my dad and sister who are long time wilco fans and my sister's boyfriend from newcastle, england. he's heard some wilco before but isn't a huge fan. can you imagine your first encounter with tweedy material being an acoustic set at cain's three rows back. i think i'm probably more excited for him to see the show than myself. nah, who am i kidding. i'm so psyched i can hardly get through 2 more nights of work until the show. add a couple of pints of guiness at the sound pony before the show and it should be

yep, it's a bar with great brews on tap (kind of a rare find in budweiser friendly oklahoma). i guess if you didn't realize it was a bar that whole phrase is kind of strange but kind of unintentionally interesting.

If it can't be glenn or scott, i would prefer no opener. i'm coming to see jeff solo for the first time. it would take an opening act of considerable metaphorical weight to add to the overall feel of the show and i really don't know who else would be a good lead in, and with the sound pony a few doors down and me with reserved seats, i'll probably drinking cimay or guiness until the last minute anyway.

wow. i'm a bit ashamed. i knew it was familiar i just couldn't quite place it. i guess this means i've got to cancel plans tonight, grab some spaten optimater put on the golden smog i haven't listened to in a while and get reaquainted. any takers?

i was categorizing some of my live wilco stuff and came across this song as listed on wilcobase from the june 14, 1999, tweedy acoustic show at lounge ax. this is the only version of this song i have, i dig it, and know nothing of its history. the opening line begins "met a man on a train near Santa Fe . . ." (i'm sorry i don't know how to post snippets of songs in mp3.) any help would be great.

i thought the same thing. richard manuel on lead vocals with levon filling in and rick hitting the high harmony. thanks the gods that wilco is there to be THE band of this generation. (at least mine) oh my god, what a terrible unintentional pun. sorry for that.

i have gumbo pages bookmarked but had forgotten about it for awhile. thanks for the help.

a buddy of mine just bought an alvarez ad60sc. i have always been partial to the gibson, martin, collings line of guitars but that alvarez sounded great for about $300. very bright, fast action, built in tuner. i'm thinking about picking up the 12 string version myself

Jay Farrar - vocals, guitars, banjo, harmonica, NASHVILLE GUITAR, mandolin fiddle. just noticed this while listening to the cd. anybody know about this and why it would be listed separately from other guitars?

you don't sound pompous at all. i've only been playing for a short while and i figured that effects were generally used to augment your playing not substitute for poor technique. i think i'll save my money on the effects, practice like hell, and later buy a solid vintage tube amp. i need to make my mediocre equipment sound better, before i shell out the dough for equipment i don't know how to use. thanks for the input.

Gibson J 45 Rosewood Nashville Tele Epiphone Sheraton II I have a Line 6 modeling amp because i'm too much into school debt to shell out the bucks for tube technology. I've just been using the effects built into the amp 9 (chorus, delay, tremolo). I know virtually nothing about effects. does anybody have any advice on some essential effects, what they do, and how i can incorporate them into my playing. i try to play wilco style stuff but am also trying to develop some traditional twangy tele stuff. i've also tried to get a vintage warm jazz tone from the semi-hollowbody but have been un

i'm very computer illiterate, but when i try to go back to new topics within "just a fan" "after the show", i'm taken back to the ELT main screen and have to select the subtopic again. i don't know if it's just me or something with the new site.
