Where the Wild Things Are....
Colb Masta M replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I thought Cars was going to suck too. But then I watched it. and I cried. You can't beat that part of the movie where the older car talks about how modern society is so preoccupied with destination of going that they lose the process of going somewhere. Beautiful. Beautiful. I've been waiting so long for Where The Wild Things Are. It's been in production stages for three years now. -
Seriously. I need to see this movie. Todd Haynes blew my mind with 'Safe', and I am very excited for this. I think I read something in the Reader about how this film may not be the most polished, or entertaining, but it displays 'the kind of risks that many of [America's] Auteurs should be aspiring to' I think that says it all in a film world full of blockbusters, or independent films that almost strive to be boring. I'd like to give Todd Haynes a high five for being so cool.

I got the first poster after they pulled them from the box. And I thought to myself 'They better have more than that. . . ' I guess I was wrong. I wonder if they will sell them on musictoday.

I didn't see those t-shirts. Can someone post a picture of one? We let a guy and his girlfriend sit on our blanket because we had a lot of room, and after a few songs we smelt someone smoking pot. It was the guy we let sit on our blanket, I laughed and continued on with the show, but then he tapped me on the shoulder, handed me what was left of his joint and said 'Thanks for letting us sit next to you man.' then shook my hand. I put it out, but just as I was stepping on it the guys began to play 'Handshake Drugs'. It was awesome. OuttamindOuttasitte. Thats all there is in my mind.

I will take them. I'm sending a PM with my information.

I mainly see them when they come through Chicago, where they play bigger venues than Eagles Ballroom, which is why I said that it is probably the smallest place I will get to see them at [unless I want to take a longer road trip]

I know I am late in the game, but I have a request. I heard 'Lake Shore Drive' on the radio today, and I thought that could be a fun song for wilco to play in millenium park. I know it wont happen, and that its not that amazing of a song, but I like thinking of the potential that the guys could have at the piano solos in the song. An instrument show-off time kind of like 'hoodoo voodoo' Just think about it . . .

I saw the Stripes there, and I thought it was great. I feel like it is the smallest venue I'm going to be able to see Wilco, I can't wait to dance with all the people on the floor, if it doesn't sound perfect I will forfeit that right so that I don't have to sit and be courteous to other people around me when 'Jesus, etc.' gets played.

There was a 40 foot tall, 3 foot diameter tree up-rooted across Irving Park right near my house. It shattered a CTA booth, and blocked a lane of traffic.

Honestly. I've been checking WilcoWorld.net at every possible time because I knew a chicago show was coming, and the tickets get swiped out from under me. If being a Wilco fan is going to cost me $120 a ticket from now on, I may have to just spend every chicago show listening to archives of shows I have in my basement. I posted in the 'Got Extras?' section, but I suppose I can make another plea here. . . I need one if you got it. McMikeD@gmail.com

It's nearly impossible for me to get tickets to shows in the summer because I work at a summer camp that still has dial-up. For those of you more fortunate than I, please help. I haven't missed Wilco(or Jeff) coming through Chicago in the past three years, and I don't want to start this September. Please Email me, I'm not able to check my account here often because of the aforementioned internet situation. I'll pay whatever costs you need. Just let me know. McMikeD@gmail.com

Cold War Kids + Religion = losers?
Colb Masta M replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Someone Else's Song
As much as I would love to call 'one true vine' a hymn written by Jeff Tweedy, I think that it is about his wife. He has said in interviews that she has saved him, and that this record was an attempt at singing directly to her. I think that he has found a different 'vine' in his wife than the one that he was waiting in line for. And while I don't agree with the possibility of an earthly 'true vine' I do think it is absolutely beautiful imagery. I love this stage of Jeff's lyricism more and more as I listen to SBS and the b-sides. -
I honestly don't usually get defensive about peoples opinions, but I honestly do not understand where people are coming from at all when they say 'Shake It Off' sucks. It rocks great, and I think that the lyrics say more about where Jeff is at now in music than any of the other songs on Sky Blue Sky. I don't know if I agree with everything I just said, but the lyrics and instrumentals rock in that song. I get the feeling that people who dislike this song are just trying to be difficult.

Jeff wrote a book laying it all out. It's called Adult Head, and you will find it in the Systematic Theology section of any good book store.
