  1. Cool to hear At A Distance, that's a great song.

-- Jeff says that he's playing a drive-in show on Sept 18th at McHenry Outdoor Theater in McHenry, IL. Susie scolds him that it also happens to be the same day as Rosh Hashanah. Jeff wants Spencer & Sammy to play the show.

I think Jeff meant he wanted the Tweedy band to play, so Liam on bass, James Elkington on guitar, and Spencer on drums. Unless I misunderstood??

The drive in show sounds fun, I'd be into going if we could get the border back open, though with the way the US is trending that doesn't sound likely by September.

  2. Solid Sound not looking likely for 2021 is it?

I've seen a lot of news articles lately about vaccines being developed faster than expected so hopefully it can be fully developed, manufactured, and distributed to the point where a majority of Americans have it by June 2021.

But if it doesn't happen, I'm holding every single person who's already booked a hotel room accountable for jinxing it.

  3. Stray thoughts from last night's show:

-Save It For Me is a keeper, I can't wait to hear the finished studio version.

-Like all of Schmilco, Just Say Goodbye and Nope are underrated songs. It's a great record.

-Cool to hear Promising, that's about as deep as a cut as one can get with Jeff's songs, but it's a good one.

  4. I actually picked this book up from a local bookseller here called Amazon. Well done to Daniel Johnson, it's well researched and compiled. I've been looking for a reference manual for a project I'm involved with, and while I still think a Wilco wiki would be a worthwhile endeavour for us as fans to do, this book is definitely useful. I was trying to use Greg Kot's book but without an index at the end, it's hard to use (not to mention Greg's book now has more years of Wilco's history that came after the book was published than before!! Greg, where's the update??).

  5. Interesting that Jeff said his next album will "probably" be a solo record, he almost seemed not entirely sure. TIN FOIL HAT TIME: I hypothesize a new Wilco record has been completely and/or mostly recorded but they don't want to drop it till they can tour for it.

OR!!!! Maybe he was unsure if the incoming Summerteeth / Yankee Hotel Foxtrot deluxe editions counted??

Or... he just wasn't sure if how much he should reveal. But that's less fun.

  6. Great show. But I have to correct the record, as I've mentioned elsewhere, Neil is absolutely still a Canadian citizen as well as American. He's arguably our best songwriter, you guys already have Bob Dylan, why are you trying to take credit for Neil too??  :cryin

The only way to make this right is on Wednesday (Canada Day), to do a special show of ONLY Canadian songs. Neil? Check. Leonard Cohen? Check. Tragically Hip? Sure. Robbie Robertson? Check. Rush? YES!

    Who's with me?!?!  :canada

  7. I'd love for him to spill the beans about what this new book project is all about, but I have the feeling we won't hear about it for quite a while.

Agreed. Even if he finishes writing it this week, I imagine by the time you go through editing, changes from the publisher, manufacturing, it'll probably be awhile. And if they want the release to coincide with another book tour that could delay things further.

  8. The Tweedy family is being very generous with their time, talent, and in the case of Jeff, unreleased songs. Anything that can potentially be interpreted as taking advantage of that generosity should be treated with caution, IMHO. Personally I feel changing formats (video stream to audio files), compiling everything, and distributing them is a few steps beyond an audience recording of a concert, and could rub Jeff the wrong way. A bootleg of a show is audio you captured yourself, but this feels different. Unless of course, Susie gives it the OK. She seems pretty accessible so I think it'd be best to be safe and ask.

  9. Thank you! I didn’t catch the name of the game and when I went back to watch the part where Sammy entered the room he talked about the game, but I never heard him mention the name of it.

I remember seeing the animated film that came out in 2001.

That animated movie is a travesty! And not really a good representation of the franchise. I've actually never seen all of it, but I've tried twice to watch it and couldn't make it through. I recommend playing the Super Nintendo era games, Final Fantasy IV and VI. XIV is suppose to be really good, I played it a bit when A Realm Reborn launched and liked it, but since it's an online game to catch up to the rest of the player base is like... 200 hours or something like that.

    Anyways...

    B)

  10. -- Sammy talks about getting married to his best friend Connie (Constantine) in a video game

That video game is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn! Though Sammy is likely playing the Shadowbringers DLC.

  11. Is it me, or do the IG comments seem even more annoying this week?  It's the same feeling I get when people near me at a show talk throughout the set.

You can minimize them by tapping the middle of the screen, but yeah I could do without the comments that are just walls of emojis.

  12. It wasn’t my project to share. Possibly the people who spearheaded it aren’t members here. No way to tell because of the anonymity of the screen names. But if you feel in the future that something should be shared here you can always take the initiative to ask about that to the people who are putting the project together.

Diane, apologies if you felt I was saying you should have shared it. My suggestion was it would have been nice if someone (probably the organizers) would have shared the idea with other Wilco online communities like VC or even the somewhat active subreddit, but definitely not singling you out individually.

  13. Sure was. And I know Facebook can be frustrating at times but that’s just the way it works.

Exactly why posting about it on VC, even if just in this thread, could have got more people involved.

  14. You’re in the Shot in the Arm group too, aren’t you, Kevin?

Yeah but it's hard to follow as closely as I do Via Chicago. The first time I saw Nichole's post was tonight during the show after people started commenting on it again, it just never appeared for me last week (though every time someone posts that Wilco have a song in a bean commercial, Facebook decides it's really important I see it!!). Was it ever pinned to the top?
