much love for pat here, as i was one of the group of 6 [hey froggie!] . . . love the windmills and the hair too! seriously, though, we were right in front of pat for the show in sydney in april and, man, that guy can play!

don't really care about the religious angle/non-angle - if the music appeals to me, then it appeals - i didn't really make the association though - obviously i'm not too bright! i've got the album, which i really love, and have the opportunity to see them here in my hometown next week . . . so what's the verdict on their live shows?

Wilco aboard May 20, 2007 Don't think you know what to expect from him now that Jeff Tweedy has cleaned up his act, writes Guy Blackman. 'This idea that it's all about life and death - it's not. There's life, and there's death." Jeff Tweedy is a man who struggles against misconceptions. The 39-year-old singer has led his roots-born, rock-raised group Wilco through six studio albums since 1995, but has felt pigeon-holed and misunderstood at every turn. He was an alt-country hero after Wilco rose from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo, a band whose sound and style virtually launched that mod

posted this message in after the show, but guess it fits here too:

hi all just back from sydney and what can i say!?! saturday was an absolute delight - my heartfelt thanks to froggie and sharon and bronwyn and simon for their company and their karma - meeting up with froggie and the gang was obviously a wilco good luck charm! not only was the sydney show one of the best shows i've ever been to (and my husband and i have been going to gigs for 20 years now - he started taking me to gigs when i was 15, bless him), but we met jeff when he arrived at the enmore and got to say thanks for coming to oz/brissie! he stopped on his way in for interviews/soundcheck
-
yay! but i'll be there too two wilco shows in one week . . . still can't believe it!
-
hi froggie i'm so stoked you had a great time . . . never really thought for a second you wouldn't of course! i can't believe you met jeff AGAIN! and he played your request! you rock! have fun tonight! see you on saturday night [whiskeygirl prays and crosses fingers for poor places to be played in sydney . . . ] bye, whiskeygirl

i'm sorry Wendy . . . as soon as i couldn't find my thread this morning i realised it was in the wrong place at 12.30am, after my very first non-festival wilco show (which kicked serious butt!), i was obviously far too excited and exhausted to think clearly!
-
before i go to bed to dream wilco dreams, can i just say WOW! what a night! more tomorrow if you're interested . . . but first to the set list i didn't think i could do it (useless memory, even for set lists of my favourite bands), but here it is: [new song - sorry don't know this one yet] i am trying to break your heart muzzle of bees handshake drugs shot in the arm impossible germany sky blue sky airline to heaven ashes of american flags war on war at least that's what you said jesus etc theologians walken i'm the man who loves you hate it here hummingbird california stars the late g

wilco on triple j (australia) sometime this week..
whiskeygirl replied to kungfuonion's topic in Just A Fan
nice to see jjj supporting wilco . . . even if they only do it when they're in the country, which as we all know is very very rarely . . . sigh -
hey froggie if only you knew how useless I am at remembering set lists . . . I think I'm going to be crucified for this, so I hope there's at least one other VCer at the tivoli tomorrow night needless to say, have fun at the melbourne shows, cheers, whiskeygirl
-
I hope Jeff has been invited to do this show while he's in oz. it's a lotta fun and he would get to perform which would, of course, be very agreeable! http://www20.sbs.com.au/rockwiz/ and the fact that everyone around here is abbreviating sky blue sky to sbs, then it just makes sense! [only 1 sleep till the tivoli show! ]

brissie and sydney for me and my other half - can't bloody wait! cheers, whiskeygirl
-
saw them do the new material (on call; black thumbnail (?); arizona (?) ) when they supported pearl jam in oz in november when i heard these new tracks i instantly loved them all, but i'm completely biased [see my avatar ] and of course can't wait until april 3!
-
just wanted to say thanks so much for your ab recommendations ! [they'll be added to the ever growing list of albums to buy that I stash in my wallet so I stay on track when I visit my local record stores ]
-
presuming I can actually buy his records at my local, which would you recommend for a very recent andrew bird convert ? [unfortunately, even though he's playing oz dates at the moment, he's playing a venue a 2 hour drive from where I live the same night I have tickets for joanna newsom - so I'm hoping he tours here again soon!] thanks in advance for your help
-
just had to say what a great time i had last night seeing neko case for the very first time at a very small (and bloody hot) venue (around 200 punters i think) she was just gorgeous, absolutely beautiful . . . i didn't think i could love her any more, but i think i just might i realise you guys in the states/europe have probably seen her countless times, but is anyone else seeing her in oz?
-
just got our tickets for brisvegas and sydney! sooooo fricken happy - thank you thank you thank you wilco! (watched sunken treasure last night and now I'm looking forward to these shows even more - if that's possible!)
-
the tivoli holds around 900 apparently cheers, whiskeygirl
-
this is just fantastic news! thanks for posting! my husband and I are already making plans for 2 shows (hometown of brisvegas and sydney) froggie, the enmore is a great venue - saw Ryan Adams there in 2005 - just gets squishy on the non-seated dance floor section at the front I really can't believe we get to see Wilco in our hometown, in a venue that holds around 900 . . . thanks Wilco!

there's an announcement slated for bluesfest (easter at byron bay) for mid january, so i'm crossing my fingers and toes! and i'm with fritz - they've got to come to australia!
