  1. I dunno, could it be bad lighting + weird fashion makeup + camera flash?
  2. "Those Muslims" just can't play nice, can they? Not one of 'em.
  3. Isn't Wilco putting out a 7"? Actually vinyl is making a big comeback.
  4. At the very least, it's nice to be able to quantify just how much of a dick he is.
  5. I just downloaded it from your YSI and put it up on the site.
  6. Thanks! Here it is for anyone having trouble: http://owlandbear.com/downloads/misc/20070...nn_lonely1.flac
  7. I'm not disputing that the study is hilarious (albeit somewhat depressing, as well), though.
  8. Sometimes refuse to believe anything (even, say, human-caused climate change), no matter how obvious it is, until you put the raw data in front of their faces.
  9. I don't know about that , but I do find it crazy that 30% of people see Bob Woodward as a journalist, vs. O'Reilly's 40%.
  10. I only live about 1/2 hour from Three Mile Island. :woot I'm glad to have power, and I'm even more glad that it's not coal.
  11. I'm not opposed to that, either. To me, though, it makes sense to make a goal of phasing out combustible fuel as much as possible, especially for vehicle use. It's already possible to get pretty decent mileage from battery-powered vehicle that rely on, say, nuclear plants.
  12. It seems silly to me to continue to look for combustible fuels, when we could be doing a lot more to improve mileage or even produce electric/hybrid cars. Corn-based ethanol is pretty useful in some applications, but probably not as a fuel for vehicles. Supply and demand is definitely an issue- our recent ethanol consumption has driven the price of tortilla flour through the roof in Mexico and elsewhere. Also, I've noticed that some legislation is in the works to decrease pollution controls on ethanol plants because we need so much of it. Doesn't seem like a great trade-off in my book. Mor
  13. Union of Concerned Scientists, a nonprofit commonly pegged as a liberal group, supports cutting greenhouse gases to prevent climate change, as well as nuclear power.
  14. The media is almost as proportionally anti-Bush as the terrorists are evil!!!
  15. I don't deny that. I'm saying that it doesn't help the skeptic's credibility when the world's anti-climate change figurehead is appointing non-scientists to essentially manipulate scientific data (of all kinds).
  16. Again, it doesn't help that these guys- the biggest opponents to climate change- are the ones systematically doctoring scientific reports. Not my fault if you're too faux-dense to figure that out.
  17. And perhaps I was just noting the most recent of many unqualified Bush/Republican appointees who have lent their unrelated expertise to the field of science.
  18. How many times in history have human civilizations burned their bridges only before realizing that they've irreparably fucked their livelihoods? I can't, for the life of me, figure out why all these scientists would want to propagate a fake theory. I can see why industry-types would want to taint the public understanding, though. Either way, scientists deserve the public's ear more than lazy and irresponsible industry-types who just want to maintain their system of making the most money in the short-term and fucking the little guy in the future. Cest la vie, I guess. It certainly doesn
  19. Nabokov, too. His family had a very comfortable life before they had to flee Russia. Check out "Strong Opinoins," an excellent compilation of his interviews for more info.
  20. On a serious note- You're probably right, but it's not necessarily unwarranted. If you ever see Inconvenient Truth, you'll discover that earth's temperatures have been rising at an unprecedented rate. And warming aside, we know exactly what greenhouse gases are, and we know exactly what they do. We (the world) also have an unprecedented number of greenhouse gas-emitting factories and vehicles. Draw your own conclusions. Many things could be done (like better mileage, better management of Sulfur, Carbon, and Nitrogen dioxides) to minimize this effect before Ann Coulter's "inevitable" commu
