Now, there's a name you don't see very much.

Transcript of last night's PBS show "Buying the War". It's an amazing recollection and analysis of how the press reacted post-Sept. 11. It's lengthy, I know, so I'm just putting it out there for interested or inclined parties. I'm finding it particularly interesting because I was in college at the time, and missed a lot of the press coverage after we'd begun to fight in Afghanistan. I never wanted the U.S. to invade Iraq, but I also never really experienced the TV coverage that led many Americans to support the effort. (Here's the original link to the Poynter-Romenesko blog where I found t

That's true, as far as I know, but what do I know?

Why the hell can't I find any of his solo stuff anywhere?

I'll second that.

I used to be a pretty big Dead/Dead-related fan (not so much Ratdog), but I think I've had my fill by now. I probably just ignored it. But I'm glad that Phil is recovering. He seems like genuinely good guy.

I'll be damned, you're right. Oh well; I was actually thinking most about the work on Love & Theft, I just assumed they were on Time Out of Mind too. It's interesting when you compare the music of L&T vs MT. It's the same kind of music, same style, yet it sounds vastly better on L&T.

Thanks for posting. Larry Campbell is awesome. When he and Sexton left Dylan's band, it was devastating (especially to the band). The quality of the music on Time Out of Mind and Love & Theft vs. Modern Times (without Campbell & Sexton) is incomparable. Jeez, I didn't know Phil Lesh had prostate cancer.

My opinion is that you need to simmer down a little. As for Pitchfork, I trust it for its number ratings and its news, and that's about it. It is also very comprehensive, which is a big plus. However, their editorials and reviews are often just downright annoying, a feature which I don't think is very debatable. As far as intergrity, though, I trust the less comprehensive but more consistently dead-on AV Club.

Usually when I see that someone is not using grammar at all, I stop thinking about correcting it. The prison plan sounds like a great idea, though.

Nice avatar. Hope you're joking about trusting only Pitchfork, though. The album's about an 8.2 in my book.

And/or how he plays the song on the 2003 solo shows.

Who wrote that first article? It seems Kinky-esqye. #2- If the government mandated gun ownership, they better damn well be buying my gun and ammo for me. #3- Guh?

True, true.

I'm 100% with you there. Well, he didn't die from it (and presumably beat the addiction which is unattainable for 90% of heroin addicts) and he remained famous, but I think he had some tough times for a while. On a side note, how awesome is he in The Blues Brothers?

Louis Armstrong was a regular marijuana user. Just sayin'.

Too bad Spin (like Rolling Stone and even worse Alternative Press) is such a shitty magazine. But hey, Jeff's on it, cool!

Used in excess definitely makes you dumber, and annoying to others. Used in moderation, there's nothing reallythat wrong with it.

Come on, Mike.
