Yeah, I know, but it does happen. I think that it depends on a lot of factors. But anyway, you asked how money could not be funneled away from the rights-owners. That is one way.

Say I illegally share a song with you, and you go out and buy a CD or two by the artist.
-
It depends on whether we're talking about the dictionary definition of terrorism or the one that is malleable for political purposes, that's all. In other words, in the war against "terror," what is the gov't doing to fight terrible acts like this?
-
It seems like most of the argument is centered around what the music industry says is appropriate, regardless of whether actual money is funneled away from those who own the rights. The music industry says that making mixtapes is illegal. Should that then be considered stealing as well? Actually, it's not semantic. Semantic arguments try to exploit a loophole via wording. I'm asking whether one way is stealing and another isn't. Doesn't the music industry see any unauthorized distribution of its music as stealing?

He obviously terrorized the college campus.

What about making a (cassette) mixtape for someone? Is that as bad as burning a CD or sending files?
-
Yep.
-
Yeah, undoubtedly.
-
That's what I was thinking. The scariest part is- why didn't they put the whole campus on lockdown after the first shooting??

I don't care who you are, what your religion is, or where you come from, this ought to qualify as terrorism, and these crimes were committed with weapons of mass destruction. Watch the NRA say "If the school allowed students to arm themselves, this wouldn't have happened." On a side note, "Most Popular" item on CNN: "Deadly shooting at Virginia Tech".

Nettie Moore & Ain't Talkin' are the gems on that record

I hate how the networks even compete with body counts, like with Presidential votes. This is just heartbreaking.

Piracy is illegal. But just because it's against the law, it is not necessarily unethical.

I have the RC-20. It's way cool.

How do these guys get their lives back?

Ditto. I'd say that the vast majority of people won't remember their names or faces or anything like that. I certainly don't. If it's any consolation, though, even though they're not guilty, they probably remain...douchebags. -

Yeah, that is also terrible, moreso than Imus, probably. Too bad. EVERYONE who says shit like that should get a ton of bad press.
-
Maybe you're right, but the comment itself is still harmful. That's the point. Doubtless, Sharpton and Jackson are definitely capitalizing on racial divide, which certainly does more harm than good, but Imus' comments were made in bad faith and although he is not the problem (I think that we can all agree there), because of his comment, he remains part of it. The fact that he's white does matter, even if Sharpton and Jackson are blowing it out of proportion. By the way, I didn't mean to "spin" your comment earlier. I just mis-read your post. Ultimately, though, if this is the death of shoc

Yeah, that's a point that I often make to my roommate. They do have nukes, after all, and a government that is corrupt enough will nuke its own people. Despite this, if I were to ever own a gun (even though I won't), it would be for the same reason as Jude. I do think it's funny how some people will amass great arsenals, as if they'd somehow be able to fire them all at once in the face of government oppression. How many physical arms (as in shoulders, elbows, hands, trigger fingers) do you think that you have?
-
Well, chalk yourself up there with one of my favorite nutcases, Ed Abbey.

I just assumed that he meant to say "making this issue a non-issue."
