  1. 1. Delta Spirit - Ode to Sunshine (Not a well known group by any means but I listen to this at least once a day. Every song on this album is great. I highly recommend it. They are even better live.)

    2. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

    3. Dr. Dog - We All Belong

    4. Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger/Follow the Lights

    5. Ween - La Cucaracha

I liked Spoon and the National's releases this year, some good songs, but some portions of them are not really my bag. I'm surprised I even listened to this many new albums.

  2. I did a search and didn't find exactly what I'm looking for. I need an external hard drive for recording music. Basically, I want to put my files on there so I can just have programs on my C drive. From my experience and what I'e heard it makes everyhting run faster. I'm using a laptop so a second internal isn't an option. What kind do oyu guys recommend. I was thinking of getting at least 120GB. I've heard good things about LaCie and Western Digital. I may have read too many reviews because everything I've looked into has been trashed by someone. Basically I want something fast and quiet, and preferably portable. Also, Firewire or USB 2.0? My recording interface is firewire so I would prefer USB 2.0 so I could have them hooked up at the same time. Maybe both would be good so I could use the firewire for editing/mixing/mastering? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Wish I was going

AM: Too Far Apart (they've already brought it back but it's always been my favorite from the record)

Being There: Why Would You Wanna Live

    Mermaid Avenue: Christ for President

    Summerteeth: Pieholden Suite

Mermaid Avenue Vol. II: Someday Some Morning Sometime

    Yankee Hotel Foxtrot: Radio Cure

A Ghost is Born: Less Than You Think

Sky Blue Sky: Side With the Seeds

Extras: A Magazine Called Sunset, Panthers, When the Roses Bloom Again, Let Me Come Home

  4. 1) am i the only person who thinks the statement about digging through the catalogue means they'll scatter a few rarities into each show, instead of playing the whole catalogue??

This is what they said in the email that I got:

Over these 5 nights the band will endeavor to perform every song in their now extensive ouvre (or is that canon)? This includes all the studio recordings and their contributions to the Mermaid Avenue records. Plus, who knows what else? To further clarify, the plan is NOT to do the material sequentially or chronologically. Rather, they're just going to attempt to cover it all over the 5 shows. It'll be a real blast, we're certain.

The words "endeavor" and "attempt" kind of leave it open so they don't have to play everything, but they mention all studio albums, including the mermaid avenues, "plus who know's what else" If they don't play at least 80% of their albums I'd be really surprised. Plus, they've promised to play a different setlist each night. If they're playing for at least a couple hours each night and not repeating they're gonna have to play more than a few rarities.

So to answer your question: yes, you are. :lol

  5. I'm still not sure if i'm going to this even though it's not far from me. There are a lot of good bands but none of them are making me want to shell out the money for it. If Wilco was playing I would already have a ticket. I'd like to see Dr. Dog, the National, Beastie Boys, phil & friends, MMW, claypool, the meters, the duo, and the bad plus. But I'm not sure if it's worth it because i've already seen most of those groups and it's a $200 ticket.

  6. in no particular order:

fuck there's too many songs to choose from. get an ipod

  7. I haven't listened to those in a while (at work now) but they are great tunes. I think this will be a really good album. I remember hearing the songs from his last album live before it came out and they didn't really do too much for me but the album was great. But these sound great live. I hope a massive tour ensues that includes Florida and results in some sort of live dvd. Then pavement will do a reunion tour.

Thanks for posting the article and track, guys.

  8. Not my cup of tea but I think globally the torch has passed to Coldplay

really, the kids love em but i haven't heard a song by them in a while

I would go Dylan->Beatles->Pink Floyd->Talking Heads->Michael Jackson(kind of a band cause he can dance and sing at the same time)->Pavement->Phish->Wilco

This is really mine own personal taste, but how can it not be. The late sixties alone, how can you choose a best?!

  9. Wilco at Jannus Landing would be like the greatest thing ever.

Definitely, especially because I live down the street. That place is awesome. An outdoor venue in the middle of a city block. How great would it be to how live Wilco blaring all over downtown.

I can't to see Ween there in Feb.

  10. The hatred these guys have for Florida is bordering on psychopathic.

Here's something to add to the fire. When they announced the line up for Langerado I was pissed that Wilco wasn't on there. I emailed band management and Langerado to see if there was any hopes of them being added. The response I got was that the trip to aussieland wouldn't allow them to do it. Now I see these dates. Look's like I'm gonna have to wait until they retire to see them in Florida.

  11. As someone who works in the business the issues are multi fold, but the setting of ticket price is always by the promoters. They have to take into account artists fee (negotiated with the agent), venue hire and sundry expenses, tech riders, personal riders, taxes, etc, etc and then allow themselves a margin for profit on top.

The industry in general is complaining that the artists' agents are demanding higher and higher fees which is squeezing promoters' margins. However having seen Wilco six times this year in five different countries the Dublin tickets were definitely the dearest. I was in Ireland earlier in the year and having scanned the press and spoken to locals it seems that the general complaint is that prices are way too dear.

The problem is compounded that (without intimate knowledge of the scene) that there are only 2 major promoters working the market. We have the same problem in Scotland where there are only 2 major promoters (one owned by an Irish corporation) and 2 smaller promoters who fight it out with a bunch of London based agents to get the best deals to enable gigs to happen. Often the agents pitch these promoters against each other to make 'their best offer'. In the end though it's the punters who suffer. In Scotland we don't often get the shows at all as agents can get bigger fees in England and then the bands don't get north of the border.

That's one of the reasons why I've travelled all over this year to see my favourite band!!

your use of the word dear is making me blush

  12. They don't want people to know that they're gonna make everyone who shows up to the show wear plain khaki uniforms cause you know how the kids love their shirts with logos on them

  13. Cancer June 22 - July 22

Rock venue managers from across the country will praise your ingenuity and business savvy next week, after you successfully employ a sheepdog to corral and guide a lineup of Wilco fans into your club.
