  1. You can see their Isle of Wight performance on "Miles Electric: A Different Kind of Blue". I'm not sure if this is their entire performance, supposedly it is. It's only 20 something minutes, but there were zillions of bands playing that festival so they probably did short sets. The sax player is Gary Bartz.

great dvd. It made me start smoking pot again.

  2. I listen to leaks and if I like it I buy it and maybe a few more for friends. I think leaks are great for bands. I would never have bought many bands cds had it not been for leaks. I heard Ryan Adams for free first now I've bought a bunch of his stuff. Same with Dr. Dog. I would never have paid for their music or been interested in what they're gonna do next unless I could've gotten it for free. Times have changed. I think bands will do better if they create a good relationship with their fans through free music. A leak or free music on the internet is where I hear of new music. Radio and TV, I don't even know, I don't see em hear em whatever. blah

  3. This is the way to do a video involving doctors

I'm sorry. That was actually alright once I muted it. I wish I could like radiohead but all their songs sound the same and their songs make me feel sad because they sings like he just got kicked in the balls. Crying makes me uncomfortable. I really wish I could like them. I've tried about once a year for the past 10 or so years. Still like creep; that's a good tune.

  4. I would say wait and see what's next. I was actually thinking how different the music scene (that I know of) is more like SBS. Music that I hear nowadays seems likes it's trying to go for a stripped down sound and straightforward lyrics. But maybe thtat's just because I' m outta the loop.

  5. Eric Heywood is the greatest slide guitarist I have ever seen live (he was touring with Richard Buckner.)

Side Note: Richard Buckner is what Wilco has already become (too soon)...this great unbelievable talent that people wont recognize for years to come, and years from now when it is too late.

    But point of thread...

    I would love to see

    Eric Heywood

    Glen Kotche

    Jeff Tweedy

    Bela Fleck

Bela Fleck would tear out some solos Nels has nightmares about.

    Bela great choice

  6. I honestly don't understand what you're saying, from my knowledge (which could be wrong) I always though that a diminished triad is just a root (in this case B ) a flatened 3rd and flatened 5th, making the notes of the Bdim B D F.

Yeah, you're right it's a B dim triad. I guess I was thinking more of jazz theory where sevenths are always considered.

    In that sense, A natural minor would contain Bmin7(b5) (B D F A)

    Bdim7 (B D F Ab[G#]) would be derived from the C harmonic minor.

Diminished chords are nice because each note is a minor third away from the last. So Bdim7, Ddim7, Fdim7, and Abdim7 are all the same chord. But since diminished chords aren't that common in popular music, the best thing about them is their relationship with seven chords. Bdim7 is a G7 chord plus a flatted ninth and minus the root. So if you want to play some far out stuff over G7, you can play arpeggios of B,D,F, or Ab diminished or a diminished scale (Over G7 the best one is G Ab Bb B C# D E F).

I also like the melodic minor scale. I like the seventh mode, the altered scale, which is very similar to a diminished scale except that it ends in a whole note scale (G Ab Bb B C# D# F). I like to use this to create tension. So If I'm playing in Cmaj or Cmin I might throw in the G altered scale (Ab melodic minor) for a second to get crazy before returning to a more stable place.

This stuff is fun to practice and is great if it shows up in a solo but if you think about while you're playing it sounds wretched. It's good for linking ideas together but shouldn't be the main idea.

My favorite chords are seventh chords for this reason, that you can essentially play any note over any seventh chord if done tastefully.

  7. Well first off in the key of C there would be no Bm it would be Bdim. The relative minor for the key of C and for every other major key is on the sixth or submediant note, in the key of C this is A. So Am would look like this.

Am, Bdim, C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am.

So the major chords fall on the 3rd, 6th and 7th spots.

    It would actually be Bm(b5).

Dim implies that the seventh would be G# but in A natural it's A

  8. I understand...............I have individual GP and Grevious Angel copies as well..............and the Reprise Sessions box set is those two albums in their entirety..............the other was a good mix of all his groups he was in and his solo stuff...........if you are an album man I would say buy the GP and Grevious Angel albums seperately...........

How are box sets counted in 600 cds? Do you count the cds separately or the set as one?

And they sell GP and Grievous Angel on the same disc. I got it for probably 9 bucks. I would say start there.

  9. Bad Plus is(are) awesome.

MMW are the best. I've seen them a bunch of times live. If you catch them on the wrong night you could get turned off. Some shows I've seen them do are lost of Hendrix covers and funk tunes and other times they'll just space out for a couple hours. The best is when you get a mix of those and see guest like Scofield, DJ Logic, Trey Anastasio, or Cyro Baptista.

I was always a big fun of Monk. Also Trane's Live At the Village Vanguard box set is amazing, if you're into modal jazz. Takes Kind of Blue to a much looser, dirtier, experimental, and dangerous level. Elvin Jones' drumming is great.

  10. They're actually not that hard because it's tuned in an open chord. I remember reading somewhere that they actually used to be sold door to door and marketed towards housewives so you don't need to be a music expert. You just need time.

  11. good to see you are mature as well........figures...............anyway..............making a petition because of the way someone posts is a violation of 1st amend. rights pal.................it is what I have done longer than you have owned a computer and what i will do til the end of time...............being immature about it says a lot about you as a person...........it really does...........again.............1st amend rights and individuality.............thought that was what message boards were for................not some communist big brother crap that does not allow differences..............really you are pathetic...............think about what you are complaining about...........

And an elderly man living in his mom's basement studying constitutional law and listening to 600 cds and a few 8 tracks is the epitome of maturity?

And your posting style is fascinating. I can't wait to see it in its 11th year of development.

  12. Great photos, SarahC! I looooove Scrabble.

I hope sharing doesn't jinx my shot at winning some goodies!

She's almost 3. She loves Wilco. When she says it, it's freakin' adorable, "Wolco." Every time she sees Tweety Bird on something in the store or on television, she says, "Hey look! It's Jeff Tweedy bird!"

If I was voting that would win. Great shot!
