  1. I'll never understand this attitude, especially on a board for a band like Wilco, that I imagine is all for supporting art at all levels.

I think it's cool when a member of the board posts some of their music. It's nice to see what people are doing. I just think when someone signs up to the board solely for the purpose of posting their music it's sort of trashy. They can go ahead and do it but I probably won't check it out. It's like those mySpace messages that look like they're from some real person but they're really for some webcam site. Or those people who pretend to be your friend just cause you got a new gobot toy.

  2. I'll third that, possibly the definitive lineup for me, no offense Mrs. Cline and Sansone.--Mike
Ooh taking a shot at Nels' masculinity just after coming off of chicken pox. Not even funny.
Me too. But I think they might be spending just as much energy trying to look happy all of the time. Wilco seems more like an advertising campaign than it does a band these days. And by the way, all of their live songs sound exactly like they do on the records. They need to jam out much more!
Did you hear spiderz last night?
  3. Ummm. I took the news bits we've seen to mean that the MDB's will back up Vedder along with other lead singers, i.e. the way GE Smith's band or Booker did for Bobfest in '92. I hope Vedder's not an actual "member" of this band. The calibre of the other musicians is way too high.

So did the previous poster. They said the band would back up Eddie Vedder and more. Should be exciting. I can't believe this means Malkmus, Nels, and Medeski will be playing together!

  4. No, not since the last debacle, but honestly couldn't resist when I checked the mail on Sat. Just like I couldn't resist when my sister got me into Letterman a few months back. And Obviously checking in now to see if anyone is being "mean" again..Thanks for not...Ok..I'm out..Maybe I'll post in this thread one more time after Leno, depending on what time I get home to let y'all know what song to expect....Just don't be mean, OK? :P

you wouldn't hit a guy with glasses wowuld ya?

  5. Why does the fact that he was listening to other music when he wrote the album mean that he couldn't have drawn on the influence of Gram Parsons when making the album?

yeah, i laughed when I read. Written so matter-of-factly, like hip-hop erases a person's memory. It might make you a little stupid, but erase your memory, no.

  6. From reading Across the Great Divide (a pretty good book and must read for Band fans), it seems like Robbie had to work really hard to keep the band together as long as they did because of all the other members drug problems. Probably even responsible for keeping Richard alive. Before I read the book, I didn't like Robbie because of how much better he is off than the other guys. But from reading the book i feel different. They all had money at one point and they liked drugs. Robbie didn't as much as the others. Basically everyone else was getting so fucked, he knew if he did too the thing would have fallen apart real quick. He's also really talented.

But he totally send Garth a huge check and buy him a gold house. Garth added so much to the band and I hear he's declared bankruptcy two or three times.

Also, I know the Basement Tapes were Robbie's project because people were pissed at him for including Band material that wasn't really part of the Basement Tapes and sounded a lot better quality wise. I'll wait for him to choke on a diamond encrusted sandwich for an official release.

  7. I like the fact that, whatever their sound is at a point in time, it's arrived at organically. So I don't care if they're relevant and I really really hope that they don't care.

They'll get their due in years to come for sure. But it seems like they're already pretty popular critically, with other musicians, and with a growing fan base. Actually they are pretty relevant right now. What was the question?

  8. sounds fantastic

would love to hear Jeff do Love Minus Zero/No Limit

edit: even more curious to see what Malkmus does ;)

I've heard that Malkmus is doing Ballad of a Thin Man. And before that I heard that him and Lee Ranaldo are recreating the 1965 Newport Folk Festival cockfight. should be good either way. I would love to hear wilco or jeff do something off of New Morning particularly Man in Me, New Morning, or Sign on the Window
