  1. interesting...

i guess for me, as "busy" as it is, i feel like the layers never feel like there's TOO much going on most of the time.

take the 2nd track, which is my favorite. there's the driving banjo line, then organ, horns, fuzz bass/guitar, etc., but it all fits perfectly to my ears :/

as for lyrics, like i mentioned above, i never related to the lyrics on For Emma much at all minus 1-2 songs. there were a ton of lines that once i read what the lyrics actually were i almost laughed. as i said, i don't think lyrics will ever be his strong suit, at least not at this point, therefore I don't pay too much attention to them unless they're awful.

there are a bunch of one liners i do like a lot on the record.

Dead on for me. I love this album and don't care about the lyrics, which is weird for me because that's the usually the first thing I look for.

  2. as good as this record is, the lyrics make it hard to relate to.

bon iver is one of the artists i don't care about lyrics. hell, i still have no clue what he's saying on most of the first album but i still enjoy it.

  3. I don't stay up that late, so I'll try to catch it on YouTube or the Kimmel web site, if I can.

me either! i just watched it on youtube this morning

sidenote: if you've never seen kimmel's 'this week in unnecessary censorship', watch one. hysterical. he's the best late night talk show host.

  4. Having the entire catalogue on vinyl (minus momentary lapse and divison bell) I think I have no interest in this. The Floyd were my first musical love and I just went back a month ago a spinned some early stuff. I sometimes resent (maybe that is too strong) how they are marketed or percieved or whatever. I hate to think of the floyd as the marching hammers, or The Wall artwork, or the later years light show band. I prefer to think of the floyd as the early seventies Ummagumma or Meddle era floyd. Just go look at those pictures of these English hippie looking dudes. Now that is far out. Man I love some 1969-1975 floyd

same for me. i love that era (include animals as well)

  5. All three of his solo records are really good, and stand up well against SFA's best. I'm not sure where Hotel Shampoo would rank, but it's probably #2. Definitely locked in as my AOTY right now.

Hotel shampoo or the new Foos is my AOTY.

  6. :thumbup

Had you heard any Gruff before? He's incredible. The best out there right now.

Hotel Shampoo isn't too much like any Furries album, but it's definitely on the mellow side. So I'd say Phantom Power or Mwng are most similar, but I'd recommend Phantom way before the terrific but all Welsh Mwng. Phantom might be my favorite, actually. Great album.

Their discography is extraordinary though. Almost any fan will have a different favorite, and it could pretty much be any of their nine LPs.

i love the mellow/poppy vibe on hotel shampoo. it's got a great spring/summer vibe to it. and the horns on a few tracks are killer. i think rdio has SFA records so i'll check them out. that movie sounds interesting too. thanks for the tips!

  7. I haven't read anybody saying anything about this one on this board, but this is a really, really, really good record. There are textures in these songs that I really haven't heard in any Foo songs heretofore.

i think it's my fave foo's record. not a single song i'll skip. every album until now has had at least 2 songs i'm so so on. this album kicks ass front to back.

As much as I love every one of his contributions to DBT, I would have never guessed I would be this indifferent towards all of his solo stuff.

i love isbell but honestly can't stand his new one. the lyrics are so bad. i keep listening hoping something will grab me but nothing ever does. sad.
