why am i just hearing this now?
-
When someone says something like that I'm intrigued, I will have to check this out. Is it more of an acoustic blues or electric? Solo or band?
it's acoustic. i'll let fatpossum explain the story behind him/the album:
-
hands down my favorite blues album.
-
Either this is just an awesome album or I'm in the perfect mood for an album just like this one.
J at his most mellow and a host of guest stars like Ben Bridwell and Kurt Vile...amongst others.
agreed. absolutely love that album.
-
Check out this video of Raphael playing acoustic at the NPR studios as part of their "Tiny Desk" series:
Damn!
this is fantastic!
-
In the running for worst album cover of the year.
Otherwise, quite an ummemorable experience
wow. exact opposite reaction for me, on both accounts. love the album cover & the album. those first two songs are fantastic.
-
Much better than I expected. Just my first listen, but so far I like it quite a bit.
i dig that record a lot.
-
You know that he was Sarah McLachlan's guitar player?
yep! found that very odd. he seems like a good dude too.
-
I have Broken (and other rogue states) and think that it's a really wonderful record. I've heard really good things about this new one, too. Looks like I'm gonna need to spend some more money...
i guess his earlier stuff is more 'country' sounding. this one is not at all. just great f'in rock n roll. in the qtv interview i saw, he talked about listening to a lot of damn the torpedoes/early petty. that's a good thing in my book. if i had heard this last year, it probably would be near the top of my fave records.
-
never heard him before until i saw him on qtv's youtube page. this is a great album.
-
why don't we do it in the road - beatles
-
i watched damn near the whole thing. what really impressed me was the B.O.B./bruno mars/janelle monea performance. i had heard janelle's music before that & liked it but never heard the other two guys. bruno mars' doo-wop/r&b bit was pretty cool.
also, katy perry's music is damn catchy.

Anyone catch Dylan at the Grammy's? He played a very cool rendition of Maggie's Farm with the Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons. Looked like he was a having fun up there! And imagine how much of an honor it was for those guys to play with him! Gave me the chills just watching it...
yeah, i caught it. the beginning was rough but kinks got worked out. his voice is god awful these days. wow. he looked like he was digging it though. he really looked like a song & dance man up there.
-
that's pretty cool. love that pic of chris.
-
Although I've read about them somewhat, I've never heard those bands. The Grammys must be trying all sorts of things to get people to watch the broadcast.
it's working on me! i have to see that.
-
but it is in southern CA. maybe bringing the fam with?
-
devotchka - 100 lovers
really digging this. especially one hundred other lovers. great song.
-
tried to listen to that dirtbombs. i like them but not this one
now playing:
black crowes - amorica
-
yeah, lyrically that song makes absolutely no sense. i do love the music of it though.
-
it grew on me a bit over the weekend, but still don't like it on the level of the first 2 yet.
i can't be the only one who cringes from the chorus on Codeine? sucks because musically i dig that song quite a bit.
oh no, i agree. is that the song with the line:
there are two things that i hate
having to cook & trying to date
those are two things that i hate
horrible.
-
there doesn't seem to be that southern soul from the last two albums that i loved so much. and the lyrics on a few songs are not good.
-
twilight singers - dynamite steps. #swoooon. digging it so far.
-
it's the world we live in.
-
Yeah, what was wrong with the lyrics? I thought they were great. The lyrics to streetlights were brilliant (as one example).
streetlights is an amazing song. probably my fave isbell song.
Now Playing: March, 2011
