  1. That qualification reduces your falacy by at least 80%. I am predicitng that more kids would die in a Romney administration, than an Obama one. There's nothing an imaginary vote for an unelectable candidate can do to change that fact. Until the critics of our limited 2 party system pony up an effective way to reform it, it's all pretentious arm chair finger pointing.
  2. So NATO botches a no knock raid, kills some innocent people and you say "Obama has killed dozens of children"? I would be careful about where the finger points, in terms of fallacies.
  3. Go Rockies! We've got a lot of fresh faces, but still some of our favorites: Helton, Tulowitzki.
  4. There are lies, and there is selective truth. One is fraud, the other is bias. I'm seeing the latter.
  5. I can think of no more balanced place to find unbiased economic ponderings than a website called: the economic collapse blog. I think they have a mission to communicate something. They probably get irritated when people point at any sign of improvement.
  6. I bought the double vinyl + mp3 download. This thing was good at first, but I'd say it's a grower.... it's great. Beautiful hour of music.
  7. Obama represents the most viable candidate who has some restraint in regards to the military and also seems to have some ambition for this country collectively building its infrastructure (energy, transportation, health care etc.) I'm cynical enough to know that he's either willfuly or reluctantly allowed certain influences to eclipse his once pure ideals, but I still believe that he is a man of principal. He picks his battles.
  8. I think this is a fair criticism. Part of what keeps me coming back is in spite of the sameness of his sound, there is no one else on earth who sounds like him. Everything he's done since The Mysterious Production of Eggs is of such high quality. Well thought out, well crafted. I do think the duet, and the Afropop flourishes on this album make it sound quite a bit different than Armchair or Noble Beast.
  9. Every nation crumbles... eventually. In the mean time, the decisions the people of a democracy make effect the lives of everyone in the country and in the case of a super power like the U.S. other people around the world. From another solar system this is all irrelevant, but for me right now, the level of aggression in our foreign policy and the support for social services is extremely relevant. For this reason I participate in our democracy by having discussions and voting in a manner that I calculate will have the best cost/benefit ratio. I don't mean to lecture, but election season ha
  10. Compare and contrast US economic growth, budget and foreign policy foot print. Era one 1992-2000, era two 2000-2008. To claim that either party is immune to corrosive influence is naive, to claim that there is no difference is lazy.
  11. Upon third listen, I'm totally in love with this album. It's a long journey (one hour +), but all so enjoyable that it's totally worth it. Definitely a slightly different sound for him, I hear some African highlife influence. At points it is more straight forward than other Bird outings.
  12. You should respond to some of the serious questions if you thing an agreement can be found. A lot of the things in that 'revolution' propaganda piece I actually agree with. Sparky, you are posting the most on here, but not responding directly to anyone. It makes it look like you don't have an argument. If you are confident about the candidate, the perspective, and the issues you keep pushing on here, then you should entertain some of the questions: What's wrong with raising taxes on a powerful corporation (of the same type targeted in your video)? Why shouldn't the governement regulate
  13. I'm 1.5 listens in to the new Andrew Bird as it is streaming at NPR's website. So far I know that it is good, I am trying to decide if it is great. Anybody else tune in to this yet?
  14. Yes. Republicans blame poverty on poor people. Libertarians blame poverty on the government. Communists blame poverty on the rich. Pragmatic progressives blame poverty on a vast number of systemic issues that begin with individual psychology and extend to socio-economic class. Most of these insights make very shitty headlines, they are usually found in foreign relations, public health and economics journals. They don't fit on a bumper sticker.
  15. Spacemen 3 are great. I also like The Jam, The Clash Mega City Four PJ Harvey and the ones that everybody knows but you can't ignore Nick Drake Radiohead Beatles Stones Kinks
  16. But collectivism, and a socialist/capitalist hybrid are what has made Germany a great country for the past several decades. They squashed communism, but retained the social services that have stabilized their country. I would say the Belgians are overtaxed, but they still are more stable than Italy and Greece. That hybrid has brought our nation a highway system, the post office, the national parks and countless other things. The same spirit on a local level is responsible for triumphs like the NYC subways system. A world without taxes and public programs sounds good if you're out in a fi
  17. I am all for wealthy people getting their dividends taxed at a higher rate. I know some wealthy people who are too. Have you ever considered that some "job creators" don't create many jobs. We live in a country dying for green energy and high speed rail let's create some jobs there. We live in a country where a high school science teacher is trying to teach photosynthesis to 38 second language learners, that looks like a job waiting to happen. Taxes should not be abused, or misused, but any time our country is ready to invest in its betterment (and not in a war) I'm in line with my cut.
  18. Deficit haters all sourly utter the name of............. Reagan?
  19. Whoever wrote that needs to get out of their armchair and come see what's going on: http://youtu.be/RadzweRQaNU
  20. You're getting spammy, Sparky. At the end of the day he can't get elected, and I'm mostly happy about it. No matter what a dude tells me on what they think about a woman's right to choose- it's not going to change my mind. I can easily break ranks with Paul there, and posting videos about his perspective on the issue isn't going to change mine.
  21. Compare your state taxes to the price of one year's tuition at a private secondary school and you will see 'pay for' takes on a pretty different color when contrasting the private to the public sphere.
