  1. Silver & Gold is indeed his best this decade, but i still love Greendale

only '00 album of Neil's i've not liked a ton was Are You Passionate, which had 2 killer songs, and some decent love songs, just not my thing fully.

What is the other killer song besides goin home to you? I'm just wondering because i'll give it a shot again. Only one that stood out to me was Goin Home ( i have to assume that is one of your two)

As for the tour i read that the show will last 4 hours

    Pegi young opener

Neil young solo acoustic first set

Neil with the band for second set

  2. ORDINARY PEOPLE TO RADIO

    NY Times, September 7, 2007

NY Times has learned that "Ordinary People" from Chrome Dreams II will be sent to radio on Monday September 10. This 18 minute plus track most likely will be initially heard on radio web sites. We think the most adventurous stations will play it on the air a few times. The length of this track makes it hard to program into today's limited radio playlists.

It is rumoured that I-Tunes may initially offer the extended track as part of a Chrome Dreams II album pre-order. Consumers pre-ordering Chrome Dreams II would get the 18 minute plus track immediately. NY Times has not learned the date of that release.

    The Cover is:

I hope this comes to vinyl fast!!!

    AWESOME NEWS!!!

  3. "According to Rolling Stone, "Ordinary People" is the 18+ mintue song, and "Beautiful Bluebird" is the second of the three ressurected songs. Two other tracks are "Shining Light" (a ballad) and "Dirty Old Man" (a rocker)"

  4. CHROME DREAMS "RIVERBOAT" PREVIEWS

    NY Times, August 27, 2007

Chrome Dreams II will feature several Riverboat previews as bonus CDs at selected retail outlets. Each outlet will have a different track. "The Riverboat" is disc 1 of the NYA Performance Series and is included in the Archives Volume 1 release scheduled for early 2008. When the Archives Volume 1 is released, The NYA Performance series will total three released discs including "Crazy Horse at the Fillmore East", "Massey Hall", and "The Riverboat."

"The Riverboat" was a coffee house on Yorkville Avenue in Toronto where NY played soon after the break-up of the Buffalo Springfield. It is one NY's earliest known live recordings.

This is really cool news in my opinion. It means the Riverboat boot is number 1 in the series and will see the light of day when/if the archives comes out (which i think it will sometime next year suposidly FEB)

I can't wait to check out the archives :)

  5. I'm hoping for the 18 minute track to be the complete "Sixty to Zero" which appeared in a shorter form as "Crime in the City". If the "Ordinary People" story is true then "Sixty to Zero" would make sense as it shares a common history with "OP" as Bluenotes era songs and their social commentary related topics.

That would be insanely crazy and i would be so happy!

  6. I agree OP is the best unreleased that I ever heard from him...I got a few versions that blow me away.

Curious to see how he recorded it.

I am assuming it is tne 13 minute song on the album, but it could be the 18.5 minute song on the album which would mean either he added a lengthy jam/solo or more probable more modern lyrics to go with it.

I doubt it is the 18 minute song though 13 seems more likely.

  7. New Neil Young Album: "Chrome Dreams II" Set for Release October 16th

BURBANK, CA -- 08/23/07 -- The new album by Neil Young, "Chrome Dreams II," will be released by Reprise Records on October 16th. Speaking from a vacation retreat with his family, Young says it's "an album with a form based on some of my original recordings, with a large variety of songs, rather than one specific type of song." It comes at a creative peak for the artist, following the "Greendale," "Prairie Wind," and "Living With War" albums, and a summer 2006 tour by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young that concert audiences are still talking about. In many ways, "Chrome Dreams II" is the ultimate example of what Young does best: most of the songs were written recently and came quickly, and the "live" recording sessions in northern California were over before they were announced. The album includes all kinds of music, and taken together, offers a complete picture of where Neil Young is today.

"Where 'Living With War' and 'Everybody's Rockin'' were albums focused on one subject or style," Young says, "'Chrome Dreams II' is more like 'After The Goldrush' or 'Freedom,' with different types of songs working together to form a feeling. Now that radio formats are not as influential as they once were, it's easier to release an album that crosses all formats with a message that runs through the whole thing, regardless of the type of song or sound."

On the sessions for the album, Neil Young was joined by Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina, pedal steel guitarist and dobro player Ben Keith ("Harvest," "Comes A Time," "Harvest Moon") and bassist Rick Rosas ("Freedom," "Living With War," "This Note's For You"). Most of the recording was done at Feelgood's Garage studio near Redwood City, California, with two vintage gas pumps out front and vintage studio gear inside.

On the music itself, Young says, "Some early listeners have said that this album is positive and spiritual. I like to think it focuses on the human condition. Like many of my recordings, this one draws on earlier material here and there. I used to do that a lot back in the day. Some songs, like 'Ordinary People,' need to wait for the right time. I think now is the right time for that song and it lives well with the new songs I have written in the past few months. I had a blast making this music."

The new album's title refers to an earlier planned release that never came out. In fall of 1976, the album "Chrome Dreams" was announced for a November release. However, that date came and went and no album ever appeared.

  8. So evidently one of the old songs (and probalby the 13 minute song if i had to guess) is going to be Ordinary People. Ordinary people is probalby in my top 10 fav neil songs EVER!! I'm excited to hear it because i only have a copy from an old bootleg in the 80's.

"I do not know the players, but it was friends of Neil, as always. All new recordings, done in an auto repair garage. They laid down rubber mats with holes and then poured wood shavings in the holes to absorb some sound. Recorded live, I think very few overdubs, minimal processing. Yes there was aa songs or two that had horns-I believe Ordinary Poeple was one of them"

  9. Nels has bashed J. Mascis in print...OUCH!

    http://hootpage.com/hoot_nelsshinebox1.html

Word kept leaking out that Mascis was in town. It was true, he showed up behind the stage at the end of the set.

As we walked offstage to a really good response (Watt's locked in on a set list that he likes, so we always end w/"Tuff Gnarl" now). Watt asked J to do "Maggot Brain". J, typically lethargic, took Watt down stairs to the dressing room, where I guess a million dudes had showed up (and drunk all our beer, etc). I waited offstage for what seemed like forever, finally shouting, "What is this England!?" to nobody in particular. Finally they came out for the selfsoilage hour: J, Watt & King from Urge Overkill on drums (J's idea apparently). J on my guitar playing in the wrong key for almost half the song, then went to Emixo. instead of Eaeolian. King never got the groove. Then this Watt fan, Scott went out on Vince's drums to cinch the soilage quotient. J went on forever, gradually turning up everything to 10. It stunk! It was rockstar bullshit I hate to admit. Then the crew returned for "Piss Bottle" (which was when I discovered the pedal settings. J had left the guitar on the stage w/ the compressor on just squealing). That was it.

Avoided all backstage schmooze and broke down gear. J bailed, I acknowledged him, but I didn't know what to say. King was so drunk, I don't think he knew anything. Steve Reed: "I hate it when the gigs get cheapened". I did say something to Watt that was a dig. He's always going on about J's photographic musical memory, so I said, upon seeing that Watt was bugged by the slackness, "so much for J's photoraphic memory!" Watt howled and found J & started telling him what key it's in. I guess he didn't remember it at all.

That is really cool to read. I had not seen that before thank you for sharing. I still love both of them when it comes to guitar :thumbup

  10. so who is then? i'm not saying nels is, by any means, just wondering who you (and others) would say is..

My favorite guitarist is J Mascis (note favorite i don't know how you really judege the best guitarist of a generation)

Him and Nels are very different and I like them both a lot for what they do. I wonder if they ever jammed together considering they both play on mike watt's album ball hog & tugboat.

  11. wow! wonder if the guy had been to the atlanta show and knew how important the weather is to a wilco show. :)

Maybe. I think the weather channel is in Atlanta. (don't quote me on that i know they hire computer engineers here not sure if they broadcast from here)

  12. this is not surprising-yet still infuriating. the only thing i have really been waiting for the last several years/decades is neil's archives. and here we go again with another set back. this was ready to roll in the late 80s. that turned into lucky 13. talk through out the entire 90s, and it was ready to go in 99. during the run up to csny looking forward, neil was doing interviews with the actual boxset in his hand talking about it. alas, what did we get-are you passionate? terrible album, yet listenable. so now we gots to wait till 08. don't count on winter. big releases only come in the spring and fall. archive I will not be out until next spring. maybe even june, like all the new ones coming out this year.

    craig :realmad

damn it i echo the frustration in this post.

  13. Yes,awesome show in the rain!---had such a good time that I had a dream about;;;;wish I could go to N.C tonight..

By the way, since I have not seen Wilco live before---did they play any rare tracks or was this a prettt standard set list?

It was fairly standard. They did play either way which i don't think they have been playing often but i would not call it rare. A fairly standard wilco setlist is still a lot of fun though :dancing

  14. Un-fucking-believable show. I'm soaked--from my socks to my hair. I don't know where to begin....

    From BT: Outta Site (closer)

From Summerteeth: Shot in the Arm (stands out as one of the best versions I've seen), VC

From YHF: War on War, Kamera, IATTBYH, Jesus Etc., HMD, ITMWLY

From AGIB: Handshake Drugs, Kidsmoke, Hummingbird

From SBS: Either Way, Face, SBS, Seeds, Shake it Off, IG, Hate it Here, Walken

Probably missing a few songs, but god damn what a great show, in the rain. I can't wipe this grin off my face. The kids loved it (the kid, really, since the younger one got tired and had to leave mid-way through with my wife).

    I truly love this band....

    More later.

I am fairly positive i saw you guys it looked like you all were having a great time i was a couple rows back.

I've only seen wilco 5 times now but even with the rain i think last night was my favorite. I thought perhaps when they started off with so many songs in a row from the new album they might play the entire album straight through which would have been kind of cool.

I did not catch what jeff was saying at the end about one of the band members family being in the crowd was that Pat's parents in the 5th row? I was right in front them and whomever they were and seemed to be loving it.

Jeff was funny with his comments about playing till the rain stops... (loud applauds) then saying or until curfew :lol

Like i said i had a really good time and not enough can be said about Nels and his ability on the guitar. He really is a pleasure to watch. Everyone in the band seemed to be having fun.
