post Yesterday, 09:48 AM - "At least we have the thread for tonight set up already

I'm guessing a little either way to start us off. I know it has not been played, but those first lines

maybe the sun will shine today/clouds will roll away

will be too fitting for the downpour that will probably be going on at 9pm tonight. "

Either Way opener.....it rained like fuckin crazy and the showed rocked even more.

    good call!

Welcome to the board i see this is your first post. Thanks for the props :thumbup

  2. The real question at hand is how many of us posers bought Wilco cd's?

    Calling all cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you think the Wilco police show up in VW's?

    for the record

    am-purchased used

    being there- purchased

    summerteeth- purchased

    mermaid ave vol1- purchased

mermaid ave vol 2- purchased songs i liked from itunes

    yankee hotelfoxtrot- purchased

    a ghost is born- purchased

    sky blue sky- purchased

there now that i have that off my chest i am happy to say i have purchased all of my wilco albums and i've gone to see them live 4 times and hoping for many more

  3. Cool, that'd be a pretty good scenario since everyone agrees it IS going to rain at some point.

    According to this site:

    http://www.chastainseries.com/faq.php

Umbrellas ARE allowed, but not golf (super-sized) umbrellas. This FAQ is specifically for Series concerts. The Wilco show is NOT a Series concert, but the umbrella rule should still be applicable. I have printed out that page, circled the part about umbrellas and intend to carry it with me in case I have any trouble bringing in my umbrella.

It is officially raining in alpharetta (aka close to chastain)

  4. Just a concern of mine, I live in Auburn, about two hours away and I am worried about the weather for tonight's show in Atlanta. The weather channel is saying thunderstorms, and if so, will the band still play? I know they'd play in rain, but it looks pretty awful and the conditions seem like they'd be unsafe.

Does anyone know if the venue would close if it was real bad?

I am sure you are concerned becasue you don't want to make the drive just to find out the show is cancelled. I can't say i blame you, but grab a rain coat and get your ass over here.

It may just storm for a little while and go away quick. That happens a lot. We had a bad storm last night for about 30 minutes but it was peaceful after that.

Weather can be fickle in the south in the summer as i'm sure you know being in Auburn.

To answer your question Yes if the storm is bad enough the facility will cancel becasue of the risk of injury via lightening or wind blowing items down.

I'm sure they don't want that to happen almost just as much as we don't either so they will only do it if they feel their is a true risk.

So yes they will cancel or delay if it is hailing or extreme lightening, BUT hopefully none of tha will happen so you better get on the road if you are already not in Atlatna because when nothing happens and Wilco rocks out and you are not here you will be very sad :thumbup

  5. Should I be concerned that I still have not seen any of these ads on TV? Am I out of the VW/Wilco demographic? Or should I watch something other than Nova, Antiques Roadshow, Moyers, and Washington Week in Review (now that 24 and Lost are done for the year)? Can I ask anymore questions?

The only time i saw one (and it was only once) was while i was watching comcast on demand music section.

  6. To be optimistic (and hopefully exactly right), usually storms here start around 4:30...right when I leave work and get on the road :punch , but they are TYPICALLY over by 7 or 8. Also, we usually don't have long-lasting downpours, as Sarah stated.

This is so true last week like clockwork i think 4 out of the 5 days right around 5pm it started to pour.

that is a pretty funny story saraC about you calling in.

I have not had pit seats before but i've seen lucky people with them and they aer quite good. No poles to worry about and hopefully the basketball teams are practicing tonight :thumbup

  7. At least we have the thread for tonight set up already :dancing

I'm guessing a little either way to start us off. I know it has not been played, but those first lines

maybe the sun will shine today/clouds will roll away

will be too fitting for the downpour that will probably be going on at 9pm tonight.

  8. Um, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this could be a disaster. Come prepared.

Good chance of rain for parched metro area

    By MIKE MORRIS

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

    Published on: 06/19/07

A cold front sweeping toward North Georgia will be bring a near 100 percent chance of rain to metro Atlanta and much of the state.

The National Weather Service pegged the chance of rain at 90 percent Tuesday afternoon, decreasing slightly to 70 percent overnight before tapering off to 20 percent on Wednesday.

The rain could be accompanied by thunderstorms, with isolated storms reaching severe levels with damaging winds and hail, forecasters warned.

The cold front will also bring cooler temperatures, with highs expected to be in the low 80s on Tuesday and mid-80s Wednesday, the Weather Service said.

So far this month, only 1.08 inches of rain has fallen in the city's official rain gauge at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, a deficit of .97 inch.

For the year, the 12.81 inches of rain recorded at the airport is 12.25 inches below normal, the Weather Service said.

Metro Atlanta is in an "extreme drought," meaning that the area is experiencing dry conditions expected once eveyr 50 years, according to state climatologist David Stooksbury.

Ninety-five counties, stretching from Rabun County in the northeast corner of the state to the Dougherty County in South Georgia, are in an extreme drought.

Monday afternoon, the mercury climbed into the mid-90s across metro Atlanta.

The forecast for the remainder of the week calls for mostly sunny skies Thursday through Sunday, with highs in the upper 80s Thursday and low 90s Friday through Sunday.

Damn it. I just hope it doesn't cut the show short now. I can deal with rain.

  9. Depends. It POURED rain at a Neil Young concert during Lucinda William' opening set. Everyone ran over to the sides where there is a bit of a covered area. The rain stopped after only a short while.

I was at that neil show :thumbup

The crowd was horrible for the show. can't beleive he had to abort bandit.

  10. yeah, and it BETTER not rain.

but if it does, will we all just stand there and get wet? is that how it works at the chastain?

That is how it works. Many people will run for the small areas with a roof on them. I will stand in a little pancho and yell for them to do a cover of neil young's "see the sky about to rain"

I looked at weather.com and it looks pretty nasty from about 5pm to midnight. hopefully they are wrong.

Traffic will be extra bad with the rain too

  11. I had already gotten 2 tickets for me and a friend, but I called in to an Atlanta radio station and won their "circle of friends" promotion. I get to enter the venue early and watch Wilco's soundcheck and go backstage before the show! I am ecstatic to say the least!!!

My recommendation for before the show is Felini's pizza. It is kid friendly and has outstanding pizza and good beer. It is also located about 5 minutes from Chastain, and I have a feeling that the majority of people that will be eating there prior to the show will be Wilco fans. There is also a really nice park on Lake Forest Drive (about 5 min away also) that I may hang out at beforehand with a 12 pack and a football/frisbee. Tuesday night cannot come soon enough! Hope everyone enjoys the show...

congrats on the circle of friends tix. I tried everything short of selling my soul for those tickets :ohwell

Felini's is a good recomendation and they are quite kid friendly :thumbup

    it better not rain :realmad

  12. I've been a wilco fan for about 3 years now, and I've only seen the band once. This will be my first official road trip to see the band. Me and two friends will be coming from Mississippi. I haven't been this excited about anything in a long time.

I'm sure after teh show the ride to atlanta will be well worth it. Be sure to give yourself enough time. As i've mentioned before i've always hit really bad traffic getting into chastain becasue it is back in a residential area and roads are small.

  13. sounds like it was a great show. I read a review on another message board and the guy who was there said after the fight he saw jeff mouth to the band "just one encore"

I don't know if the curfew was the reason it was short it might have been the fight.

again i was not there so i don't know. That seems to make sense though if the setlist had more songs. Surely they knew how long they could play.

Either way it sounds like the show itself was great. I'm glad to see folks talk about how good the new songs sound. I've said from the begining i think the new songs are going to be awesome live :thumbup

  14. last night in Tulsa was pretty good - they opened for the Black Keys. i'm not too familiar with Dinosaur Jr's music, but they played Feel the Pain and a few off their new one I recognized. they didn't play Start Choppin, which i hoped they would have... they came on late, apologized for being late - they got to Cain's 5 minutes before they went on stage... they said they had no time to make a setlist and had no idea how long they could play... they only played 45 minutes, though...and it wasn't as loud as i thought it'd be... i love how Lou Barlow plays the bass - he's more like a rhythm guitar player... and the Black Keys killed, as usual...

Nice i'm very excited for next thursday

  15. I wanta get tixs to this so bad too..... I did hear them play "What Light" last night... I believe a first for davefm...

    so far i believe i've been caller 1, 7, 9, 17 :ohwell

ps... if any of you wanta try, go to www.davefm.com and then click on the "friends of dave" and if you sign up you can "get points" and with the points you can enter a drawing... they will have 5 winners, you can enter as many times as you like up to the 16th... it's 300 points per entry... at least it's another way to try... it's very easy to get points...

I actually requested What Light that night :thumbup

and i margot was really cool about playing it.

As for the internet delay... that is why i gave up i don't have fm in my house so i was listening on the internet. I called and got through and was like tell me i'm number 20. She was like no sorry i just announced on air that i have a winner.

Maybe the delay changes but that night it was like a minute delay becasue i hung up and about a minute later i heard the announcment "on air" online

  16. My wife and I will be there, along with a couple of friends still in college.

We're from Charlotte, and the only places near Ovens that come to mind that I would recommend to others is Lupe's (regularly voted best burger in Charlotte, along with the best chili in Charlotte), Red Rocks, or Hotel Charlotte.

Lupe's is only about two miles from Ovens on Monroe Avenue. Last time I went, they still only accepted cash or checks (no credit cards or debit). Great meal and atmosphere for under $10 a plate.

Oh you are bringing back the good memories. I liked going to lupes. Fun litte joint with good food.

I dont know if Smokey Joes is still open but i don't think it is far from ovens or lupe and i loved going their on tuesday nights they have live open mic night. They have a ping pong table and you can play free ping pong and i think it was 1$ drafts. The music varried by who showed up but it was always fun. So if anyone is in town on the tuesday before i would check that out :thumbup

  17. I saw Dinosaur Jr. in 1989, and then again last week, and I have to say from my memory that they are TONS better now. I did manage to record the show, and its up for direct http download on my site now too:

    http://www.nyctaper.com

along with my ticket stub from the '89 show. Ah, the memories!

    awesome thanks for recording it!

i never got to see them back in the day so it in interesting hearing that perspective.

for ther person above who said they can't find it anywhere i'm pretty sure itunes has it. I think i actually got mine at best buy.

  18. My Girlfriend and I will be going... for our second Wilco show at this venue! Charlotte sucks donkey balls, in my expert opinion... hoping for a great show though, I really hope they play that VW song!

I'm sure wilco will put on a great show. Ovens is not a bad venue for charlotte.

I did not like charlotte much when i lived there either. Bands tend to skip it a lot

  19. Unfortunately you will have to listen at some point. It is billed as a "secret show"... they don't tell you when the call-in will be until about 15 minutes before it starts and they also give no indication to when the next round is. I called in at 4:08 PM ET today and had no luck :ohwell .

I seee. Thanks for the info. Do you know the number to call?

I'm going to program it into my phone :dancing
