Yeah, Alastor, I think you need to reconsider what five watts of all-tube actually equals in terms of the equivalent solid-state wattage rating. My Hot Rod's never been turned up past 3 when I've played with guys using 100+ watt solid-states. If you're actually going to ride the thing wide-open like what you're planning, five watts is plenty loud for just about anyone. Also, bear in mind that as tubes raise in temperature, they tend to get even louder. You really just need to play each individual amp in person without going by what we're telling you. When it comes down to it, it's a personal t

I don't know if you've already began looking into amps yet, or if you've even bought one, but I was reading one of my old Guitar Player issues from last year (August 2005, Keith Richards on the cover for anyone interested) when I came across an amp that might be exactly what you want. "When it comes to a company invoking its storied past, few have as much history to draw upon as Epiphone. Largely known for its beautiful acoustic archtops, Epiphone didn

3-0, sorta sad for Ghana but I don't think anyone really expected otherwise. Nice to see Kingson with the good saves at the end of the game, it was just a shame that they came then rather than at the beginning. Ze Roberto's goal there at the death was nice, but I guess I didn't really appreciate it so much because I hated to see Ghana lose that way. Not a bad showing for them at all, though.

As much as I cheered for my team throughout, this was the lamest call yet of the cup. Should've been a yellow for the dive, free-kick from the goal, and start over in extra-time. At least then Italy could've won wth some pride. That was a hideous thing to watch. As beautiful as the PK was, there's no way any of the Italian side could really be happy with that win. I'm pretty disappointed... but I hope the Azzurri win the next one in a more deserving way.

I thought you said it's a practice amp? It's your call, but practice amps aren't gigging amps, and if no one is listening then I'm not too picky about what I'm playing through. Either way, it's your decision and your money, so good luck in the process.

Good Lord, there's a wet spot on my pants the size of a coaster. I could never afford that right now, though.

I'm going to have to agree with ginandcigarettes on this one. As much as I love tube amps, you won't get to really have fun with it if you're in a bedroom, regardless of how low your wattage is. I was in the market for a Pro Junior a few years back after I heard Nels recommend one, but then I heard him explain that his reasoning was the way he was able to craft his tone at shows by playing it wide-open. If you're absolutely set on having tube tone, try looking into those Vox Valvetronix amps. I've personally never played one, but a former buddy of mine used to really gloat about is. Also, a lo

Ah good, someone else to celebrate with win the dance is over and the Azzurri win it all.

Why doesn't someone start a JP Dellacamera hate-thread. I hate his voice so much, and even more than that, I loathe his pronunciation of players' names. For Example: Francesco Totti- Cody says Fran-chess-koh Tah-tee JP says Flran-tsess-koh Toh-tee I can't even phonetically screw his words up enough to make them sound like him. Speaking of Totti, why are so few people here backing Italy? And why did Lippi pick every Italian forward but Antonio Cassano? Anyway, go Italy. I forgot to add this... I wish I played Italian soccer...

Looking for the last Amp I will ever need

Well, if it makes you feel any better, I just won a pair of Petra Nemcova's panties and a certificate of authenticity stating that they are real and were in fact worn by her and never washed. I know hearing that certainly made me feel better. -
I'm very surprised about the Birds and Ships addition! Also, upon more research, I'm going to say that it's definitely a banjo. So, I'll start re-arranging today.

Anyone into wiring their own stompboxes...

Thanks giantsteps.. I've been to small bear, and plan to use them to buy parts; I'll check the other two out right now. Are you a Coltrane fan, too? Livingston is about 100 miles west of Knoxville, Bolivar. If you've ever been in/around Spencer, Sparta, or Cookeville, you've been fairly close. I was just in your neck of the woods a while back to see Dylan and Haggard at the Tennessee Theatre. -

Guitar Player is a great magazine for gear reviews... and basically everything else. Guitar World has pretty much turned into the Spin or Blender of Guitar magazines. Anyway, yeah, Anderton still contributes, but it's mostly just gear reviews. However, I bought a fairly well-written book from http://www.indyguitarist.com about wiring a while back and that's what I've been using for a guide. I may look into the Craig Anderton stuff, though, thanks! Oh yeah, what part of Knoxville are you from, Bolivar? Halcyon, I'm not too sure I want to build my power supply. I figured I'd buy one pre-made -
A while back I got into studying stompboxes, circuits, and the like, and decided to get into making my own. I wanted to recreate the sounds of some of my favorites but at the same time, add some things that I felt were missing, like more control over EQ or a noise gate. I discovered a website that serves as a database of schematics for various stompboxes, filters, and amps. This made me wonder, could I ever build an amp from these schematics? I'd love an AC30 like Jeff's, or maybe an SVT to match John's. So, anyone ever given any thought to something similar?

I wanted to know the same thing. I have no idea what he means about getting midrange through a guitar amp. I've played my J bass through an old Bassman, and even my Hot Rod, and I think it sounds terrible. How on earth does he get his tone through a Twin?

I'd go with a Guild on that. He's big on the Guild sound. After reading more about the Dark Star, I have a powerful lust for one. Too bad it would look horrible on my Jazz bass. Anyone catch the allusion?

3- Tried that, and if I raise my amp's volume to certain levels, I can hear the buzz. 4, 5, 6- Hilarious, but sadly, my only choices left -
That or this. Can't go wrong either way. I just like wood better myself.

Check the Bass Player magazine archive. They featured him just a few months back. I remember it listing his setup, but I've already forgotten what he said. Then again, it may already be outdated. When did he change from Orange to Ampeg?

Hohner is the best brand, by far. I don't know that plastic combs are any different from wooden ones in terms of bending notes, but I can say wood sounds better and seems more air-tight. I've always played Blues Harps, but if you want the best, buy a Marine Band. They run about $22 against the $15 Blues Harps, but for the sound and playability, they're worth every cent of the difference. If you're just starting out though, invest in one of those Piedmont Blues sets from Musician's Friend. I bought one a while back to fool with as practice harps, and I was super-impressed. They're plastic but h

Hey man, I can see now that this was all just a misunderstanding. I just wasn't sure how to react, but now I see. Thanks for responding when most would've probably re-flamed. Anyway, good work on the tab, I'm going to try it later today, but from the looks of it I think it's a lot better now.

I think you could have saved a lot of time and trouble by just typing the last three sentences. All I said was I don't think the transcription is right because it doesn't sound right, and that what you're saying doesn't line up with the video. I wasn't trying to step on any toes, and I certainly wasn't looking for the response I got. I may be in the wrong by saying this, but I think you're taking some of this a little too seriously. There's no reason to try drag up as many mistakes in my post as you possibly can; for example, the C-Cm/Eb-Ebm thing -- If you want to get nitpicky, we're both wro

well... In the time I have spent waiting for a response, I have decided three things. They are as follows: 1. I need to urinate. 2. No one is going to respond at 1:08 AM. 3. I'm going to bed. EDIT- CURSES, MY COMPUTER'S CLOCK MUST BE WRONG.
