Evil Urges is definitely flawed.
And it all goes down to personal taste.
I just always thought it got a worse rep then it deserves.

Yeah I agree with you there.
Message board rule #1 - Never go up against Solace. You WILL have your ass handed to you.

downhill is a relative term in this case... in that just based on my enjoyment level of their albums post At Dawn has nearly decreased with every release. sure they're still a great band, and like you said, Evil Urges is mostly just bad by their own standards. like, Pfork score wise, it's probably like:
At Dawn: 9.4
It Still Moves: 8.8
Z: 8.7
Tennessee Fire: 8.3
Evil Urges: 7.2
so not terrible, but a far cry from their best stuff for me too.
i just would really love for a new MMJ album with only 1-2 songs i don't like (ie: like on It Still Moves & Z), or even better, that i like every song (see At Dawn)
I love Evil Urges.
I love all of their albums, I just don't feel the need to catalogue them by order of excellence. (nothing wrong with that, it's just not necessary for me)
So I see no downward spiral in album quality.
But I think we can all agree studio albums aside, the band in itself has grown tremendously over the years. They have developped into a force of rock that cannot be stopped.

I have the Mxr carbon copy.
It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a digital delay, but you will not find a digital delay that sounds this good.
It is so warm. I can get amazing 'classic rock' leads with this pedal.

I don't remember the exact details, but wasn't there an interview with M. Ward like a month or two where he said he was hoping to record with the other guys at the end of the year??
I really don't think this is legit.

Also don't forget to hit one of the original bagel 'factories' in Outremont. Long lines on a Sunday morning but it's worthwhile.
YES!

Montreal is awesome! GO! Old City and Science Museum is great! Streets are fun, great bars, shopping etc! Also crepes are awesome!
I'm busy at work, so im just quickly jotting down things as i think of them.
Old Montreal is beautiful.
Also, I highly suggest pub st elizabeth. It has a great, lively outdoor patio. They have a website, I believe if you google it.

Thanks petemoss! I look forward to your input (don't feel obligated of course!)
I should probably have mentioned though - veggie friendly suggestions are encouraged
Gotcha. Then in that case, I won't tell you that smoked meat sandwiches at Schwartz's is a must....

I'm thinking of a weekend visit to Montreal with my wife. Neither of us has been, but from stories we've heard, we have a vague image of a cool, beautiful city.
Do you know of any cool spots to hit up there (I hate looking at tourism web sites - I can never trust them. VCers I can trust!). Any advice would be appreciated (hotel, restaurants, museums, parks, pubs, bookstores, etc.).
Merci.
Oh man, you are in for a treat! Montreal is an amazing city.
I will try to write a bunch of suggestions later when I have more time, but for now I will say this - go to old montreal, and go to the steak house gibby's, and have one of the best steaks you will ever eat. hit up some of the bars on crescent, and st catherines street.

i don't see them going above 8, but who knows with them i guess. i think the review will be positive but the score is always a group decision, which will probably lower it a decent amount.
Ever since Pfork gave Hold Time a 6.8, I haven't really paid attention to their reviews!

I was wondering how long before Hiller would crack.
That was a really impressive game by Boston. I really think they can turn things around.
Tell me about it! I can't stand when games start at 4 or 5 here.
I really hope Boston ties the series.
I hate Carolina so much, though I do like Maurice.

Jesus Christ man, I never said the Canucks won the cup. How old are you? Your lack of hockey knowledge and your blatant attempts to antagonize make me believe you are in middle school.

I was just in a chat with Michael Ryder on the Bruins website, he answered my question...
Michael Ryder is a SUPER nice guy and very approachable. I have met him twice, and he was always really friendly. I am really glad he is having another great year. Where I am from (canadian east coast) EVERYONE loves that guy.

I understand myspace can be good for small, up and coming bands, but holy crap do i hate myspace.

I feeeeeeeel good
see ya later Habs
Boston had the better team, plain and simple.
Montreal not having their best players, and their second half of the season implosion did not help either. Most Boston fans surely realize they had even more of an advantage this series knowing they were facing a Montreal team that was not playing to their potential the last couple of months...
Boston deserved to win.
And most people knew they would.
Even then, it's weird, but Boston still doesn't really get the credit they deserve this year.
They have a great team.
I'm just happy Montreal played hard, despite the disadvantage they had.

Doc, even though I'm very happy you've chosen the Bruins for the Eastern Conference, I've got some stats for ya:
-Bruins beat Chicago twice this year, combined score 7-4.
-the B's shut out the Canucks in one of the best games this year 1-0.
-Bruins beat Detroit 4-1 in November.
-San Jose will choke long before any sort of important series...
I feel very confident in Boston's ability in 7-game series'.
Last night's game was amazing. The gallery gods live again in Boston.
Plus, I got to meet Cam Neely before the game, and sit inside the old garden's penalty box, which was pretty cool
Few pics:
Me and the gal-pal in the ol' box:

Last row, party section:
Nice!
Glad you had a good time. I was just happy it was a relatively close game.
I've told myself I am going to try and enjoy this series as much as possible, no matter what happens.
Cam Neely is awesome.
I love that good ol' Canadian boy.

Obviously I am not happy the habs lost, but that was a hell of a game!
Very entertaining. Could have gone either way.
it's going to be a good series.
I just don't want to see anyone get hurt.
Was really disappointed to see Kosto throw out his elbow like that...
-
Bruins tonight! Go Bruins! I think they have a great chance to win the East but it will hard to beat SJ-DET in the finals......
I loved that Phil Kessel finished with 34, maybe 35 goals this year. too bad he was hurt for a few weeks, probably net more.
I'm gonna poop my pants!

if Chara doesn't win the Norris something is really wrong.
I think he will

How hilarious is it that Boston and Montreal meet... AGAIN!?!
If Montreal had Markov in the lineup, and if everyone on the team were playing to their potential - I would like Montreal's chances against Boston. But honestly, with all that Montreal has gone through in the last couple of months, and without Markov, the habs don't have much of a chance.
It will definitely be a pretty exciting series though, without a doubt.

Predictions:
East
-Boston in 6
-Caps in 6
-New Jersey in 6
-Philly in 7
West
-San Jose in 5
-Detroit in 5
-Vancouver in 7
-Chicago in 5

I'm gonna stick up for this album. It has some great songs on it. 'Bowl of Oranges', 'Method Acting', 'Make War' and 'Nothing Gets Crossed Out' are all top-draw. There are a couple of whiney moments, such as 'Waste of Paint' but overall I think it holds up quite well. Probably would get more love if it was edited down a bit. Sometimes 70 minutes of Conor Oberst is too much to take in any one siting!!. In general he does seem to get a lot of stick but if you look at his whole catalogue there's a lot of really good songs in there.
I like lifted as well, sure not every song is top notch, but I prefer it over some of his newer material.

Some other great Canadian acts to include with the stuff mentioned previously:
Joel Plaskett/Thrush hermit
eric's trip/julie doiron
Sloan (the older stuff)
Hayden
Arcade Fire

I feel really bad for Taylor Pyatt right now. That's horrible. The Canucks organization has experienced too much tragedy in recent years...

I know this sounds SUPER lame, but my cousin talked to Nels at the show last weekend in Buffalo and he said they are playing two shows at massey hall (toronto) this fall, probably October.
