  1. I just saw this movie last night.

Was just wondering if anyone here has seen, and what they thought of it?

I can't seem to get this movie out of my head.

It is gorgeous and horrible at the same time...

  2. Welcome. haha.

When I went up to Montreal last season, everyone was so cocky...and one guy actually picked a fight with me (funny story actually, I found myself in a hockey style street fight in the middle of the cross walk for about 10 seconds before my friend acted as the voice of reason...)

This year, not a problem, everyone was nice to me even though I was in full Bruins attire.

    Beautiful city, shitty team.

    Ole.

Listen, I know there are some definite jerks who cheer for the habs. For sure.

But you were a Bruins fan at a Montreal game.

I have been to a Habs/Bruins game in the beautiful city of Boston. (Now, I am an extremely polite person and am pretty low key). And the fans around me, were EXTREMELY hostile. I had one guy body check me in the rest room, which probably would have escalated had there not been 4 drunk guys urging him to kick my ass. I smartly walked away.

So your above comments seem absurd to me.

  3. I don't know what it is but I hate the Habs now. Maybe their arrogant fan base is starting to wear on me.

I know what you mean. I am a die hard habs fan, and there are definitely some pretty arrogant canadiens fans out there. Not all, but some.

I'm surprised you are hating on the habs right now though, they have been horrible since the all star break, and most arrogant fans are pretty quiet right now.

I don't have much faith in this team right now, on paper - they are a great team. But one thing after another, has caused this team to implode in the last half.

If they do make the playoffs, they won't get past the first round.

That being said, I like their chances against the Bruins over someone like New Jersey or Washington.

But yeah, the Bruins would most likely roll over the vulnerable habs...

As a Canadiens fan, it hurts to say this, but for the very first time in my life - I LIKE the bruins this year.

I like them a lot. I have always been a Julien fan, and there are just so many players on the Bruins I like.

  4. Mystery solved on the Charlotte age thing.

Background: In Episode 4.02 "Confirmed Dead," Ben Linus rattles a bunch of information off about Charlotte Staples Lewis. Including her birthday. According to Ben Charlotte was born in 1979. Which would mean that the little redhead girl that Daniel saw in 5.08 "LaFleur" could not be Charlotte because she was not born yet in 1974.

In the Official Lost audio podcast dated 3/19/09 the producers where asked about this and if they could identity the little girl (ghost, hallucination or what not). The producers said this (and I am paraphrasing): The character of Charlotte was written as to be born in 1971. However the actress, Rebecca Mader, did not want to be branded as someone much older then she actually is (she was born in 1979). So on set when they where filming the scene in "Confirmed Dead." She had the age of her character changed, thus the discrepancy. So I guess we are to take that bit with a grain of salt.

Actually Damon and Carlton 'lied' about that, lol.

  5. As far as I can remember, Feist is the only concert that I have walked out of because of how awful it was. For me, the excitement is more about a duet than it is about Feist.

    Weird.

  6. I really really really really loved that movie, and me and my friends quote the characters all the time, but after doing my own research online about the events of the movie and the characters, its become clear to me that many parts of the movie are heavily editing for dramatic effect. Lots of stuff is taken out of context, put out of sequence, or staged to make the story better. Billy Mitchell is full of himself, but he's not as sinister or whatever as the movie makes him out to be.

And yet somehow, even though I know all this, I still can't help but love the movie. If it was a documentary about something that mattered, I might be angry about the filmmakers distorting the truth...but since its all about Donkey Kong...its just sweet.

    Just briefly, from wikipedia:

    I know what you mean.

But I read an interview with Seth Gordon where he said that Billy Mitchell was actually a lot worse in real life then what ws included in the film.

It is such a complicated conversation. The way we painted Billy and his actions is so much gentler that we could have, that it makes it hard for me to stomach the tiny little details that they are choosing to fight about, because his true actions were so ugly that we couldn’t use the complete truth, meaning we didn’t show him as dark as he really is.

To have them take issue with these tiny, tiny little things makes me want to unveil the darker stuff, because it would silence them forever. But it is not worth my time. I don’t think it is worth the kind of bad blood that could bring to start really opening Pandora’s box.

I could tell you off the record some of this stuff, but the dude is so much worse than we painted him out to be. So we just included the stuff in the movie that was necessary to tell the story and to understand Steve’s fear of him and his reputation, but we didn’t go into any of the stuff we could have.

  7. The only song of 'Z' which is not essential is 'into the woods'. Every other track is top draw. 'Wordless chorus' is a thing of beauty and gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.

    Woah, woah, woah/

Into the woods is an amazing song.

it's one of those things were you listen to the album for two years, and all of a sudden you go' holy crap, this song is amazing, how did i not see that before?!'

at least thats how it was with me

  8. y'know... looking at past reviews from them, they've been pretty kind to Matt over the years (8.2 for both Post-War and Transistor, and 8.3 for Transfig), but i feel this is way closer to those albums. it's the lowest rating they've gave any of his albums other than the To Go Home EP, which their review was total shit/pointless.

    That's my point too.

pfork sometimes seem like they just get bored with some bands after several cd's.

However it could be just my own tastes that conflict with their reviews.

For example, was 'Evil Urges' REALLY that bad? I don't think so....

  9. yes, i have both.

you can still get Transistor easily far as i'm aware (as w/ most Merge stuff), but End of Amnesia is being re-issued on vinyl next mont

as far as Pfork's review... whatever, fuck them anyway, we all know that. Matt's music isn't hip or cool or the next big thing. he doesn't sing in a nasally whine or have tribal drums, etc., of course they're always going to underrate music like his.

some points of the review are decent, but many are just nitpicking for the sake of. if you take the album out of the context of the rest of his catalog, is it great? you bet. and sometimes that's all that really matters to me.

the worst part about that 6.8, is that She & Him got a 7.4, now that's just FUCKED. no way on god's green earth is that album as good as ANY of Matt's records, specifically this one. i dig it, but come on...

I agree. If this cd was released from some kid no one heard of from the Village, Pfork would be hyping this like crazy. Or they would completely ignore it.

Either way, Pitchfork always seems to get bored of artists who have already released a couple of cds, and they can no longer manipulate hype for, lol.

  10. i was suprised by that too.

This line pissed me off: "Buddy Holly's "Rave On" matches up nicely with Ward's simple-is-good philosophy, and this laid-back remake is sonically detailed enough (another Deschanel guest spot) to justify itself-- it has nothing on Transfiguration's irony-free cover of David Bowie's "Let's Dance", though."

What the the hell? Those songs have nothing to with each other, they are completely different other then the fact that they are both covers...why compare them? ' Yeah, this song is pretty good, but it's not as good as this song' Typical shoddy writing at pitchfork.

    Ok enough useless ranting....

  11. If Pitchfork doesn't give 'Hold Time' at least an 8.5.....i am going to have to whup somebodys ass in the head.

I'll even go one further - I'll personally take their precious little Robyn, and their hip hop messiah Lil Wayne hostage until they give Matt the credit he deserves.

    Seriously, what a cd.

I'm not even sure one single song on it's own is particularly amazing, but as a whole, as a single work of art? Wow.

I love all of M Ward's other cd's. But this one seems perfect to me.

It makes me want to buy the best record player money can buy.

Well, Pitchfork gave it a mere 6.8

I guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is....

  13. So far I really like it. I've only played it by myself, so I can't comment on how it fits in the context of a band. I'll play with it some more over the weekend and try to let you know about the volume, overdrive, etc. I did not notice a drop in volume when the pedal is on, but I'll focus on that next time I play it. Some of the settings are very David Gilmour-esque.

Thanks alot, i appreciate it. I am seriously considering picking this pedal up!

  14. YES!

    1201852832_CARBON_463.jpg

    Can't wait to get home.

Can you let me know what you think of this pedal.

I am currently looking for a delay pedal, and have been doing quite a bit of research on this pedal, but have yet to play it.

Please let me know how you like it? I am curious to know if there is a volume decrease when the effect is on, and how it sounds with overdrive...

    Thanks!

  15. I've never heard the Red Repeat but I'm a big fan of the Carl Martin effects that I have heard (and own). To fake an answer to your follow-up question, slapback delay is around 100ms so you've got some headroom with 600ms. 600 max is shorter than a lot of digital delays but longer than some other analog pedals (I don't know how the Red Repeat makes its delay). But, once you get beyond slapback, the delay time doesn't matter as much as the repeats for spacey, atmospheric stuff.

Keep in mind that 600 ms is about twice a second, so pull out your watch and say "beep" two times a second and see if that's slow enough for you (alternately, set your metronome for 100 bpm).

    I hope this helps.

    It does help, thank you.
