this has gone on for over a year. the owner has threatened to have a nervous breakdown if said roommate moves out because they are a school teacher and would never be able to afford it without the roommate. OF COURSE all bills are always paid. I just happen to think its BS.

There is no lease. The person that stays there all of the time is the owner of said house. The gas bill is like 350 or more a month nowadays. I think its weak for a person thats using 5 percent or less of that gas to have to pay for half of it. Cable and electricity are bad enough. It always gets paid but if I was the owner I dont think I would feel right freeriding off of someone else.

Lets say you have a roommate. They are dating someone and stay at the apt/house for literally one or two nights a month and the rest of the time at their SOs place. Should the absentee roommate still have to pay half the gas and half the electricity and half the cable no matter what??
