  1. RE: stage-crashing - There were also a bunch of empty seats in the first few rows right up until Wilco started.. So some folks took advantage of that, and then in the 2nd or 3rd song, some dudes showed up, beers in hand, claiming their seats. I remember my first show at Town Hall, 1999 (or was it the 2001 shows?), when some people took their front-row seats well into the set, like 4-5 songs in, and without missing a beat, Jeff included "You're late" in whatever lyric he was singing at that moment. Haha.

It was nice to see the audience standing up and rocking out, it seemed to make for a good vibe. At my previous theater shows, this did not happen. Jeff implored the crowd at Radio City that "You might want to stand up for the next few songs" when they busted into Theologians. Maybe it was a younger crowd than usual last night, who knows.

Too Far Apart was nice, my first time on this tour and 2nd only time ever I think. No other big surprises for me. I rate this show #4 of the 4 I went to, behind Cooperstown, Brooklyn #2, and Brooklyn #1.

There was some nice sunset light behind John and Pat.

I believe this lighting was used during I'm Always in Love. i thought it was pretty cool.

Nels's third shirt of the night. Seems like every front yard up here has a pro- or anti- fracking sign, though I couldn't discern a clear majority.

I'm sure Jeff was doing the hometown pandering thing that happens in every city, but I agree that this was good crowd and a good vibe. I enjoyed this show much more than Brooklyn, where a ton of people around me talked all night, both nights. At Cooperstown, everybody sang along to every song, even the non-hits. it was nice to see a song like Either Way get a good reception. At the end, I Got You>Outtasite was particularly exuberant.

RE: Airline to Heaven, just before the song Jeff said this crowd was now the best crowd on the tour. "Those other audiences are dead to me."..."You had a good disposition in the rain, you sang along, you're beautiful, you're a little tipsy. You're almost everything a rock band looks for in an audience. I don't know what else we could ask for but I know there must be something else. Maybe you could show us what you got in the last couple of songs here, You can push it to that next level."

After Airline, he said "I was reminded what the missing element is .. Rhythm." And then he said a good audience can take a joke! Haha.

Did anyone go to the Hall of Fame on Saturday and/or see the band there? I had hoped to go but didn't make it up til mid-afternoon Saturday and went straight to the show. Hit up the Farmers Museum Sunday.

  3. Interesting - I got Brooklyn Night 2 (1 ticket) right at 10am. Was repeatedly rejected for night 1 and then scored possibly the last ticket for Night 1 at 10:44am. Had to put in for 2 separate orders and pay for shipping twice. Frontgate sucks in this regard, TM would be cheaper.

  4. I saw tickets for the Central park shows -- which were $45 for GA -- up to $500.

Hm, there were people in line before those shows who couldn't give away their extra tickets. Maybe it was due to the threat of rain, but I've always seen people trying to unload tix at face value before the shows, even in the NYC area.

  5. Haha, no problem. Not the first and won't be the last time any topic gets double-posted. I don't have enough time and energy to have actually made that compilation on CD yet, but maybe now I'll be motivated to!

Oh, man, now with The Whole Love, I might have to bump Handshake Drugs off my list for Born Alone. Helluva tough choice. And likely substitute One Sunday Morning for The Late Greats as well.

  6. Anyone see the new Pearl Jam movie? There's a clip of them playing release in Italy in an absolute downpour. It was beautiful. One of my all-time favorite concert moments was seeing Soul Asylum a few years ago in the rain in New Haven. 3rd song in, they went off setlist and played Rain, I Can See Clearly Now, and one more which I think was Who'll Stop the Rain. The show goes on...

  7.

If this year's Solid Sound had been the same weekend as the 2010 festival, we would have been standing in even more rain. Hurricane Irene was the same August weekend. Go Mass MoCA's Facebook page, and look at the video they posted on August 29 or so. Pretty amazing.

Nope, Solid Sound was August 14-15, 2010, not August 29. Early to mid August is usually hurricane-free. In any event, I kinda like having a good part of the summer to look forward to something, rather than getting it right off the bat. August just feels more right for a vacation to me.

  8. I wanna hear "Intro" "Interview" and "new years eve countdown" at my shows.

Happy to see Joe DiMaggio and Blasting Fonda on the list finally, though I'll doubt they'll top any voting list.

  9. 1) November 13, 1999 - Town Hall, NYC

    2) November 13, 1999 - Town Hall, NYC

Via Chicago > Candyfloss, I believe started it off. Nothing like hearing great music for the first time, live.

  10. There was a time when I worked on some serious research/writing projects, and would be at my computer for all hours of night. Right around the time Ghost came out. I'd put the CD in, and it played 3 or 4 times in a row. I barely even noticed the drone at that pace. For casual listening, I'll let the drone play a minute or two, then skip to Late Greats.

  11. Yup, always loved the "unreleased album." One of these days I will put together a compilation for myself of the best of the takes available at archive.org. The tunes I liked best are So Many Roads, Lazy River Road, and Liberty. The version of Lazy River Road that made the box set is too slow for my liking. Live it was always fun and bouncy.
